Ableton Live is a monster to navigate for a first-timer like myself. But Once I really gave it the shot it deserved I really see what people love about this DAW. There is so much here to play with that it's kind of mind-blowing. Coming from using ProTools, Ableton Live is a different thing all together. But there is value in how it makes you think about mixing, editing, arranging, and how you are treating midi and virtual instruments. It takes a lot of the things I really like from Studio One 5, Studio One 6, Cubase... and puts them all into this neat little package... I hate the color scheme though lol

Been an Ableton user for many years now and have never looked back. The last update implemented vocal comping which was a huge gain. Workflow was the key for me.

I should say I produce, so for what you do it's going to be hard to ever go away from Pro Tools.

For song writing, it’s one of the best, for mixing albums for a living probably not the best choice.

@@emerica5700 Nah. Pro Tools is of course a good option for what he does, but not the only one. However, Live indeed is probably the worst for this.

I've seen what Ableton can do over the years, it can easily handle over 80 tracks. But now best of both worlds, it and Cubase for me. For most clients who send me music, it's usually less than 30 tracks per song, but Ableton does well with it. I have a work flow in Ableton, that I know and trust, but going into Cubase just gets the work done, seems much easier tbo. When you find something that works for you, it may not work for others but that's the beauty of personal design.

Ableton Live thrives in using midi and arranging parts. I feel in love with it for that reason. I originally got into it because I wanted to use if for backing tracks/click for church and just fell in love with the workflow when making my own parts. Prolly wouldn't use it for actual full band recordings though, idk. Maybe if they were already finished and I was just rearranging and mixing like you did in this.

Try Bitwig! Its made by former abelton employees so it has many of the principles and ideas from abelton. They offer a fully featured unlimited time demo you just cant save any projects or export anything. So you can try it for as long as you want and try every feature. I'd highly highly recommend it for you since you really liked abelton. Bitwig is an amazing middle ground between something like cubase and studio one, and abelton.

I got an idea. Maybe when you try a DAW, just so you get familiar with it more, just use stock plugins so you can compare which DAWs have really good stock plugins.

I left Ableton for Pro tools artists for sound design and electronic music but i came back to live very quickly... Everything you need is already there, and the slice to drumrack command in Simpler is uncomparable.

Ableton has been a DAW that when you want to do looped based music like Hip hop or edm can be very inspiring. I grew up on the pattern base sequencing when I first got into music. But as I grew into more professional settings this workflow didn't work well to doing vocals or more organic music. You really didn't use Ableton the way most do... which is mixing and matching patterns to create new ideas. And thats where the genius of Ableton really shines. With that said great writing tool, but for your type of work probably the 4th worst daw out there.
