I got both but in the end kept the Pro 2. It has such a unique character and depth to me that I could not replicate on the Pro 3. A larger keyed + 4 oscillators are huge also.

I still have both - but the Pro2 does get more use than the 3

To really compare you need to have the levels the same. That being said, I bought a Pro3 this year and didn't find it as powerful or useful as the Pro2 I already had. The lack of 4th oscillator and single filter is really a letdown at the end of the day, as is the smaller keyboard and cheaper knobs. If you want analog oscillators in the Pro2, they are easy to add - I bought a cheap Behringer Pro1 and feed the oscillators into the Pro2 inputs - really the best of both worlds but frankly the digital oscillators sound great as they are. I sold the Pro3 and still have the Pro2.

I did the same thing, sold PRO3 and kept PRO2. Don't know why, but never felt connected to PRO3. But many people love it I guess.

@@BlackMan614 I just missed the last Pro-2 , new unopened box, in the U.S. A.,, about 1 and half months ago,,, maybe 2 months ago.... Then I kept looking at the Reverb website until an excellent unitbat a fair price showed up, and I took the chance,,,,, you just really never know about buying used,,,, but thankfully it was in mint condition, inside and out... Love it... True, there are not many used Pro -2 synths for sale at any one time.

Question as I just got a pro 2! Right now I'm finding it very difficult to add all the modulation I want from my Pro 2 to my moog DFAM so I can run VCOs inside the Pro 2. Any tips and tricks for creating a good routing with a small semi modular like you did? So far I've only been able to have it control the pitch of the oscillators, but it would be cool to be able to modulate some of the dfam parameters such as using an LFO for vibrato etc

Ive owned both synth... The PRO2 gives me a more moodier 80s darkwave vibe, while I created more dark and aggressive Berlin Techno with the PRO3. In the end, I sold the PRO3 to purchase a Matrixbrute which I immediately sold, maybe I didn't give that mono synth much of a chance, but no way does it stack up to the PRO2 or 3
@CleverMusicTech4 ай бұрын
I agree, I also have a Matrix Brute and love it for the look/UI and form factor, but rarely use it these days - really struggle to get the kind of sounds that come easy on the Pro2 - still have the Pro3 and its still used regularly. My main synth for the last 18month has been the Walkdorf Iridium Keybaord, its on another level.

I appreciate this upload. Thanks! I spy an Elektron MK2 Analog 4 peeking underneath. I own a P3 & Elektron AK, it’s always lovely to see similar taste. Actually, the AK kept me away from the Pro 2, which is a fantastic synth but I am addicted to strange beautiful sounds. Looking forward to more uploads from your channel. Take care.

11:10 … Those are both “4-poles” … 😊 Yes, the Ladder with bass compensation really kicks. I love the PRO 3/VCOs … but I also love hybrids, so interested to try the PRO 2 again. You can patch additional analog and/or digital oscillators into either … but I think I’s miss that Ladder option if I only had the PRO 2. Do you use the filters on the PRO 2 in serial/parallel a lot? Which one/in which configuration, would you use them the most? Thanks; Be well! 😎👍🏼

the filters are why I really love the pro2, very versatile and use them in both serial and paralel.. probably more in serial much like an MS20

There's no denying how great those VCO's sound. While I truly love the PRO 2, i acknoweldge its SORT OF between niches. To be the ultimate mono, it should have two VCOs with two of its digital oscillators. To be the ultimate paraphonic synth, it should have various paraphonic play modes, as is, it just rotates through the oscillators and a note press basis. So i think the PRO 3 is a better monosynth. But the PRO2 is, to me, a better overall product, such a good processor, with the dual filter section, also has the pressure sensitive touch strips, a pretty damn good mono, plenty useful in paraphonic mode. And, it can feed external VCO's into it. The PRO3 cant make up for its one filter at a time architecture.
@CleverMusicTech4 жыл бұрын
I agree if only they made the Pro3 a two Filter machine it would be a killer. I am warming to the Pro3 and using it as the main keyboard infront of my iMac and its very 'immediate' - lucky to have both.
@heavyofmouth74724 жыл бұрын
@@CleverMusicTech I'm warming up to the idea of the Pro3 as well. I'll admit, as a previous Pro2 owner, I immediately wrote this off. It's a different beast for sure (much like the Pro2 when it released) but it has so many subtle little charming qualities of its own. I'm afraid if I keep looking at this, I'm going to get that ol' so familiar itch.

Il pro 3 è più acido, graffiante. Se hai già tanti suoni 'grassi e caldi' va benissimo così! Se in un set le macchine sono tutte calde e affascinanti si impasta tutto.

I do find the the Pro3 can be more "fat" & Warm than the 2 due to the two analog oscillators and filters - but it is still very versatile and fits well in a mix

I am tempted to go back to the pro 2 as much as I like the analog power and sub of the pro 3 I tend to play it in paraphonic more than mono and it doesn’t respond well .....I know that’s hard to describe .......but the pro 2 feels more like a whole instrument ......will give it more time though and see ....pro 3 is good for aggressive sound design and the bass is very strong Dave’s signature great sound.....the sequencer not so much prefer pro 2 , 4 voice paraphonic

Interesting way to look at it - I definitely manage to get some "trouser shaking" low end from the Pro2, but I know what you mean. I keep thinking I should sell one of them but nearly 3 years after getting the 3 I can't seem to bring myself to sell either !
@robertkondor2638 ай бұрын
I’m just joking about the “comparison” video. The pro 3 is being played an octave higher. I know a synth programmer gets as much low end he/she needs from whatever synth is at hand. I think workflow, user interface, available resources (sound sources, modulators, etc) are the big factors that make one instrument more useful to a given user than another. Sonically they’re all just a block of marble waiting for our magic.
