In this video, Nathaniel takes a look at the Blackmagic Studio Camera 6K Pro, their most advanced live production camera yet.
This camera really comes into its own in a controlled studio environment, with a 6K super 35mm sensor, a Canon EF mount and a streaming encoder all built into a compact, portable body. Advanced features include talkback, tally, camera control, built in colour corrector and Blackmagic RAW recording to USB disks making it a powerful and efficient live production tool.
For those in the world of live streaming, this is definitely a camera to consider for controlled studio work. To find out more or to place an order, head over to our website in the links above.

Can you use this camera to do a video like you're doing now ? And what lens will I need like the video you're shooting now ? I plan on doing more later thats requires a larger set. I'd like to use this camera for both up close like you're now, and 2 people at a desk later. What camera are you using to shoot this video?

Whats the best lens size for the studio set up you're using now for this canera? And is this an auto focus camera?

As it's name implies, it's designed for studio setups. 🎙 Not outside broadcast or large venues. The Ursa lineup covers the latter. This is much welcomed by many users over the m43 models.

If you think URSA can be actually used in serious live production, you sir believe BMD marketing way too much. I recommend you reading BMD forum for the horror stories people went through with URSA cameras. From their fiber modules just stopped working mid production to absolute lack of any post-warranty service from BMD. Then there is the performance of cameras themselves. Bad sensitivity making them unusable for most indoor productions or night productions. Very bad rolling shutter makes them unusable for sports. A serious lack of sharpness because they stretch the image over Super35 sensor. Cameras are also very uncomfortable to work with. Body being too short for shoulder operation with most of the buttons being in bad places. Lack of weather proofing makes these cameras unusable in high humidity environments and cold temperatures. And then there is the build quality... URSAs can't really take a beating, it does not take much for buttons to break of or screen stop working. These are not really professional machines, they are for enthusiasts at best.

Looks pretty ideal in many cases... but what sort of zoom lenses are there that can take advantage of the zoom controller through the camera? I imagine the EF mount opens up a few more than the M43 version had... but what are we looking at for options?

This is not my comfort zone but are long zooms really needed in the 'studio' environments I think this is aimed at? This is not going to be used (much) by the major broadcast houses but could well be very useful for smaller live KZbin type productions. It certainly packs a lot in. Think of the online outfits that now cover things like SpaceX or healthy eating shows etc. That's where the big mass market now is I think.
@carlyates2487
@carlyates2487 Жыл бұрын
I do agree with you Bob. This is mostly for studio based multicamera work, talkshow style. Lenses like the Canon 18-80mm with servo should be long enough for most situations, and without servo there are a lot of longer options.
@chrisw443
@chrisw443 Жыл бұрын
I mean, with the EF mount, there arent any decently long zooms for it that arent like over 10 thousand dollars. So. Kinda kills it. Unless you don't need to zoom much for a live or studio shot. Which I dunno, maybe you can adapt b4 lenses to it? Its so small and nice compared to the ursa broadcast which is a bit unwieldy for tripod work I think.
@jeffsaffron5647
@jeffsaffron5647 Жыл бұрын
It just another nonsensical Blackmagic Design product. Adapting B4 2/3 lens to it would mean stretching the image over the Super 35 sensor. Which means you loose sharpness and a lot of stops.
@carlyates2487
@carlyates2487 Жыл бұрын
@@jeffsaffron5647 This is mainly for small studio work, not for outside broadcast where you would need long zooms. Plus the Canon 18-80 and 70-200 CNE pair are long enough for some of that work. If you need long servo B4 lenses it's better to use the URSA Broadcast G2.

It is not just about the mount. It is about having 2/3" sensors, ideally 3xCCDs that don't have rolling shutter. Problem is no one except Sony is making these in 4K and they are super expensive. And I don't even think Sony is selling them.
@hbp_
@hbp_ Жыл бұрын
@@jeffsaffron5647 Didn't Sony stop making CCDs already in 2015. They do make 3-CMOS GS cameras tho. But well, I do agree GS would make BG2 a much useable camera, even with one chip. The rolling shutter makes similar pans jerky when compared to a GS Sony.

@@hbp_ yep the problem is that blackmagic is all marketing: 6K, 8k blablabla. I only need HD for the upcoming years. Nobody is streaming at 4k. All the workflows in broadcast TV are in 1080i yet. We just need affordable 2/3" HD cameras

in live production actually smaller sensor is better, you always need big zooms and not big wide shots, also smaller sensor means your lenses are smaller and lighter. if you already own EF glass maybe this this camera is better for you but in terms of practicality 4k pro g2 is better choice. for example this camera with 70-200 ef lense at 200mm for good shots you need tripod which costs min 3-4k$

 studio cameras biggest selling point is one cable run for everything, big distances. in that situations what are you talking about pocket line is much better, versatile and cheap all around. just plug ac to wall and your hdmi switcher, also rigging is much easy.
