At 2:03 he says that the probability of this happening to any one number (not just 6) is 0.518, however this is technically incorrect. It is true if you are looking one SPECIFIC number between 1 and 6, but not true if you are looking for ANY single number between 1 and 6. This is true because if you are looking for ANY non specific single number, the first roll would not have a probability of (1/6) but a probability of (1) because any number would do.

The statement is correct. The probability for any ONE number.

Michel van Biezen My mistake, I was confusing it with something else that wouldn’t be applicable in this problem. Thanks for the videos!

Well, I rolled a die 10 times and the times it took to roll a six were: 6,12,5,3,5,2,4,10,3,17. Avrg: 6.7 tries.

@@russelomondi8063just a regular die. It just shows that out of those 10 tries, I was able to get a 6 in 4 tries or less. Not too bad but I wouldn’t bet money on it Lol

Hi Sir can you help with this sum - A sales executive has generated 20 leads. He estimates that there is a 10% chance that each lead will result in a sale and that the leads are independent of each other. What is the chance that he will make at least one sale?
@MichelvanBiezen
@MichelvanBiezen 5 жыл бұрын
Calculate the probability that they will NOT make a sale (0.9 each) and then multiply them together P(not for 20) = 0.9^20 = 0.12. Then the probability of making at least one sale = 1 - 0.12 = 0.88 (= 88% chance).

@@Leelaraidu 10% chance of sale for each, so 90% chance of no sale for each. 90%=0.9

To find the # of ways that "6" would not appear in 4 dice throw, why cant I say (6C5)^4? Can someone kindly explain to me? Thank you so much!
@MichelvanBiezen
@MichelvanBiezen Жыл бұрын
Work it out both ways and compare. But from a logical point of view, find the probability that you will throw a six and then subtract that from 100%

Thanks for all your videos. Going over all of them here to prepare for the naval officer test. How would you go about solving this problem and calculating the solution? If a pair of dice is rolled and a playing card is selected, what are the odds of rolling a value that adds to 8, and the odds of you selecting a heart? I have 5/36 for dice and 1/13 for selecting a heart. I really don't know what the solution is. Thanks :)

Are they asking for the "odds" or for the "probability". They are different. Look at the videos that explain how to calculate the "odds".
