There are many diseases deadly to squirrels that a squirrel can catch from humans. By touching and allowing the squirrel to come in direct contact with these guys, they may have inadvertently killed the squirrel.

David Martin The squirrel undoubtedly has had close contact with people before, although I've heard that even 'tame' squirrels will some times avoid people they don't know. So, yeah, it's a bit of a mystery. I feed the squirrels behind my mothers house in winter, but they don't run over and climb up on my shoulder. That's really rare.

They're real easy to fall in love with, especially when they're this young and cute and trust you. That's how I got my first squirrel. She just kept coming to me and wouldn't leave until night time when she went back to where ever her nest was, but then the next day she came right back to me. This went on for years until she died of old age. Of course I always had peanuts for her lol

He's a young lil fella... Those claws are super sharp. I have a pet Gray Squirrel named Geoff and when ever I take him out to play I put on a heavy flannel and a hat...They are such adorable critters... I'd say that one is probably around the 6 week old stage here.

Omg 🤗❤❤😍😍😍 Me thinks this lil guy may have been raised by hoomans and recently released. We raised 2 from pinkies and released. My boy Sami has been gone for 3-4 months now where he used to stay in woods in backyard and eat throughout the day with other squirrels and birds 💔 I'm hoping he moved deeper in woods and will come back to visit 🙏🏽 If you return to the same place regularly he may remain near. They LOVE Peanuts but most other nuts are healthier. They sure love black oil sunflower seed so a hand of that could be dropped out when you see one ❤ My heart needed this, this morning. Looks like a youngster who lost his nest. When a baby squirrel is lost it will imprint on anyone that shows them kindness. You should have taken it to the vet.

Not the vet as grey squirrels are labelled 'vermin' and vet would kill it. Wildlife sanctuary or someone who knows how to keep it warm and feed it warm goats milk. Google for more.

I've taken a baby squirrel to the vet when he started following me before and they got rid of his fleas and gave us the phone numbers of animal sanctuaries we could take him too. None of them called back though so I looked after him

The trouble is I think it's illegal to release a grey squirrel here in the UK once you have it. They did the best thing. Grey squirrels are sometimes killed as vermin because they endanger the red squirrel. I love grey squirrels myself and very much admire their intelligence. I would of fed it and set it free. It's parents may find it still.

Lovely video! If you find a baby squirrel like this (I'd estimate 6-7 weeks old) they are quite friendly & fearless of humans. Best thing you can do for them is what these gentlemen did--try to get them back to their mama. The mama will take them back, even if they smell like humans, so long as they're warm & uninjured. So best thing to do is keep the little squirrels warm & try to reunite the little one with the mother. Also, squirrels are not vectors for rabies, so it's safe to handle them. They're fastidiously clean creatures, which is why the one guy commented on how good the squirrel smelled.
