Best thing I did... I replaced this Shimano maintenance nightmare with a DT Swiss Hub :-) Now I can ride without creaking noises and have fun.

That’s exactly what I’m going to do in the future. DT 240 EXP OS for me please.

Very good video. Thanx for posting. However, this looks like a terrible free hub design that is prone to problems. Was thinking about buying one but I think I’ll go with a simple spring and pawl configuration.

Very good video for help other people to do the maintenance, i watched other videos that they put grease in the plastic peace (spacer), i have done this in my Slx and then have no more the characteristic noise. What do you recommend, grease or not in that piece? Thanks from Novo Hamburgo-Brasil
Do you use Shimano's special "Seal grease for Freehubs" for the seals or just something like slickoleum?

Would you recommend greasing the spacer? My hub makes a lot of noise and apparently the spacer is the cause..
@mf36163 жыл бұрын
Yes you have to grease the spacer. Shimano already clearly state it in their dealer's manual. Few customers came in with a 'burnt' hub spacer which disintegrated and caused alot of creaking sound due to Shimano not greasing it from the factory. That was for the first gen btw, the 2nd gen hub comes with the black spacer rather than the translucent one. Don't know if they did grease the gen 2 hubs already.

@@mf3616 yes you're right. Took the hub apart a few weeks ago, ordered their premium grease and it put an end to the noise. It's been silent ever since.

Too bad these hubs wont last more than a few years due to the tiny bearings inside, these new Shimano hubs are shite, i recommend to go with the older XT hubs with the steel axle or even better the LX or older Deore hubs with the good seals for example the FH-M525 which is still available, just be sure to get the none A version as it has bad seals.

Suprised they dont even use cartridge bearings 😂😂
@HansensUniverseT-A3 жыл бұрын
@@hench_wrench_repairs Cartridge bearings the manufacturers simply their hubs with are mostly complete garbage as with bottom brackets, best thing one can do is stick with the traditional cup and cone systems.
