We called them thongs in the way back time of the 50s. Though they were originally created in the 30s somewhere Down Under (Australia or New Zealand.) Thong underwear were named that because of the resemblance to the 'flipflop' sandal. Just to toss a wrench in the mix, my family called them Zorries because my mom was into Japanese culture.
