I love my CH-R, I got it when they started first cranking them out back in 2018. I agree, the rear passenger room is really tight but I didn't buy it to have 4 people riding in the back. I love the horse power as well, I normally keep it in eco mode so I can save gas but if I need to get that little boost to smoke someone, I'll just throw it in sport mode, thats why it's there. Lastly, I will also agree the rear passenger windows are small but you're not supposed to just depend on the blind spot monitoring feature to let you know cars are nearby. You just need to be aware of all your surroundings, and use all your skills as a competent driver while on the road when driving this car or any car.

😂 🤣 😂 🤣 C-HR (coupe-high rider). It's a crossover, not a true SUV. Mine gets damned good gas mileage. I'm glad mine doesn't have a sunroof. That's just something to have potential leak issues with later. Sure, it has blind spots, but the sensors are fantastic and I've never come close to an accident when trusting the blind spot monitors. I have a 2018 in radiant green. Her name is Ivy and she's the best vehicle I've ever owned. I'm cool with her not having hotrod horsepower. I'm not going to be racing her. Your video is ridiculous.

On my second CHR and love this car. Reasonably good gas mileage and has plenty of power when driven responsibly. It ain't a sports car folks. Not worried about Space for rear passengers as I rarely carry them. If you are driving defensively, (like you should be) then blind spot view is not a problem as you will have situational awareness concerning your surroundings. Sun roof? Go get an after market installed, problem solved. Although Toyota do not recommend it, I tow a 2000lb boat and trailer without any problems and it still seems to have adequate power to haul it. All round excellent car and I would highly recommend it to anyone.

😆... I'm getting 37 mpg average with my C-HR. Toyota listed the car as an SUV to better its US Federal MPG requirements, it's actually a hatch back. At 144 hp, it's proformance is fine for it's subcompact class size. A sunroof is a waste of money, $1000 US average, for something to eventually leak, and cost more to repair, not to mention damage to the interior. I'm 6'2" and have plenty of room in the backseat. Blind spots are something you learn to deal with with any car. Your review is a complete waste of time, and it's obvious you're not a long term owener.

We bought our C-HR new in 2018. Mileage is decent. Sport mode can give you better power of the line. The engine is naturally aspirated so you’ll never have to replace or pay someone to fix a worn out turbocharger. Also, one major reason we bought the C-HR is because it handles better and has a lower center of gravity than most SUVs and other crossover SUVs. I bought it with 22 miles and it now has o er 90k miles. It has been a great vehicle.

I think you dont understand cars, and the market these cars sell. CHR and juke are very top sellers in Europe. Europe has strict laws to what you can own, and this fits many people's livestyles in other countries. Your logic is flawed about what this car represents. Your opinion is granted, but that is all it is. CHR has one of the top safety, and is a very practical car in European countries with very slim roads. If you dont like the car, buy your Germany car. See what complaints will come later when your are foot the bill.

"Europe has strict laws to what you can own", say what? You can buy any car you want and drive it. The only thing you can't do as freely as in America is modify cars. Although even then you can get them approved for road use as long as it is safe. I think the biggest difference between EU and America is that over here a lot of people, me including, don't stare themselves blind on horsepower numbers. Most people buy cars to be economical, reliable and comfortable.

Well for me this car is fun to drive. Don't need the sun to shine in above me. The back seats deter others from wanting to drive with me. I don't drive like a race car driver and it keeps up with traffic just fine. Gas milage is average with a car this size. You have to use the mirrors when changing lanes. So much of what you said is saying bad drivers should not buy this car and I agree. As far as handing this car drives very smooth and like any Toyota they are solid cars no matter what model you buy as long as you drive and maintain them right. Good video though. I like that you can point out some things that might turn off the average driver that is looking for something more sporty that drives with a better sport mode. This is just a good fun ride for space ship pilots like me. -LT

I have a 2022 CHR XLE (with the blue wave), my only issue is that since it's NOT an SUV, it doesn't have the trunk space. The trunk space is awfully small. It's a CROSSOVER COMPACT, not an SUV. I hate sunroofs, not an issue in the desert where direct sun temps can reach 130°f +.. plus, they're expensive to fix when they break. I just traveled 2800 miles round trip with 3 adults and a tall 15yr old, no seat/size issues. We all fit just fine. I got an average 30.7 mpg. Compared to my 2000 XTerra which gets about 13 mpg. My engine is not fully broken-in yet at 15,800 miles. So it'll get better mpg when it's broken in. Airbags everywhere. Excellent crash test ratings. Excellent clearance as it's not a low car. I love my CHR. Highly recommend if you can find one. Just be ready for the diminished trunk space.

i can vouch for the blind spot. Went out with 4 adults last weekend and I asked them (one guy was 6+ feet tall sitting in the back) and they swore it was comfortable. You have no idea what you are saying. I have a 2019. I'm getting 34.6 mpg driving to work every day with a somewhat heavy foot. That's a lot better than my Ford F-150. Way better. I don't care about rear seat room for passengers because I rarely have anyone else in the car with me. And the passenger up front can pull their seat up if legroom back there is needed. I suspect you did not do your research. As far as horsepower goes, it's not going to win any races -- especially off the line. But once it gets moving, she's not exactly slow either. Scotty Kilmer has high praise for the C-HR. And unlike you, knows what he is talking about.

The only issue with the back seat when entering the car is the lack of comfort. However, there's ample legroom and headroom for an adult; I'm 6 feet tall and fit comfortably. Aside from that, this car has a lot to offer. It's a small SUV (crossover) that provides an easy and very comfortable drive. The hybrid version also delivers excellent fuel efficiency, and the overall quality is top-notch. While the sunroof looks stylish, it can be problematic. It tends to get very hot in the summer and requires regular maintenance and there's a risk of rust and water leakage during heavy rain. So the hard top is better.

I have a 2020 xle and I absolutely love it.. yes.. it’s really lacking in power. But it’s still really fun to drive and the MPG’s are actually the exact same as a Corolla. It’s literally the same engine.. I’m getting 27/32. Blind spot is not as bad as it seems and the monitoring system helps a ton. Space in the back is smaller, but still more than a Corolla. Which.. should be pretty obvious considering the class.

Bro l own a chr and love it. If l have one gripe it would be ground clearance but l guess it's at that height for its dynamics. It's not a family car and it's not a sports car either. It's an eye catching comfortable city cruiser with great road behavior dynamics. It makes tarmac road trips sheer fun travel.

I actually love my CHR but there are a few minor things. I will agree that there is a bit of a blind spot but it’s very minimal. With the sensors and rear camera I barely notice it. However, what I will say is that if you come to a corner that is angled to the left and you need to make a left; you will have to angle the car toward the right a bit so you can see oncoming traffic through the passenger window. A bit annoying but I’ve gotten use to it. Fuel consumption seems to be about average, no big deal. Now there are a few things I wish were different and this is merely personal preference. 1) wish it had a sunroof 2) wish it had auto start.. in-fact the hardware is not even installed in the car so not even able to get it. 3) wish it had more cup holders. It has 2 but one of them is in an awkward place so almost unusable. 4) I dislike that the doors don’t automatically lock when you start driving, they have to be locked manually. 5) sometimes the rear slanted roof can limit what you can carry. I do a few delivery apps so it can be an issue at times. Another thing I failed to mention is that the dash display doesn't indicate which tire needs attention. It will tell you that you have low pressure but would be nice to know which tire.

Can I ask you another question related to CHR? I do own one now for some weeks and when I turn off the engine I sometimes want to leave my door open without getting out yet just because it's hot outside and Im still in conversation, but then the alarm gets on after 30 seconds and then starts beeping about the door being open. Another scenario is when I am slow with taking things out of the car, the same way the alarm gets turned on after 30 seconds and starts beeping when I havent even finished yet. I don't like this strict alarm setting. Do you know or someone else who reads this a way to get rid of it, without me having to disable the alarm again?

I can somewhat agree with the issues he said , but you can take them or leave them, but what is true is the the fact it is way under powered for the size of the engine. Mine is a two litre and it should have a lot more poke than what it has. That is the only gripe!

It's rated at 29 MPG for fuel consumption ! Gas mileage also depends how you drive.. are you going pedal to the medal as if it was a 650 HP Camaro ? ... we have a saying in the IT world.. sometimes the problem exists between the keyboard and chair, in this instance it would be between the steering wheel gas pedal.

I actually have a question for you... Why did you buy it? No sunroof yes, but you have lot of technical assistance that some more expensive cars dont have. I agree about fuel consumption, it is a bit high. Driving one months old, it's winter time and consumption is 14.5l. Waiting for spring and then I'll be able to say something more about it. 2.0 engine with 145 HP is more than enough. And with CVT transmission it drives very well and accelerates pretty good.

I have a love-hate relationship with my 2020 Toyota CHR. The side sensors do NOT always pick up cars besided me, especially if it is raining or snowing and there are so many blind spots, front and back. I live in SD, so it isn't great with the weather here. The front sensors constantly pick up on cars that aren't even in my lane, and my car will produce an extremely high-pitched, full panicked beeping and will automatically stop my car with an intense snap your neck kind of hault. Gas mileage isn't great. Im 5'3", 120lbs, and it feels okay for me up front, but if I were in back, I'd be much less comfortable. The horn is pitiful. The seat belt sensors are obnoxious. There are so many features I want to shut off because they're so annoying. I hope to trade it out one of these days for something a bit larger that'll accommodate a more active, adventurous lifestyle.

The problem is in the eyes of the owner. The worst problem with this car it has major blind spots! Almost sideswiped someone a few times in 2 1/2 years moving from left to right is awful. The Honda HR is 1.8L compared to this 2.0L in the same compact 4cylinder size car. I enjoy getting 28-30 mpg in city and 30-34 Hwy! Who’s complaining??? 😅

Any car that has a sunroof is going to have lower head clearance. This car can accommodate taller people easily and the seat are very comfortable. Also this car is not made to be a roadster it doesn’t have a turbo so you’re going to have the same driving experience as other naturally aspirated four-cylinder engines do your research on buying a car before so that you can understand how it will perform but it’s no better or worse than any other non-turbo four-cylinder. I don’t really have issues with the blind spots in mine just get you a wide angle rearview mirror by Broadway on Amazon if it’s a problem for you mine has cross lane warning so even if someone is sneaking up on me it gives me a signal that someone’s approaching the side of the vehicle. The backseat is a little claustrophobic because the windows are so small but the seating I do not have a problem with I’m 5’10” and I can easily sit back their car seats fit great too. Could use a little bit more storage in the cabin but other than that this car looks way more expensive than what you’re gonna pay for it. This car is more geared towards single people or people that do not have families it’s really good on gas it has a small gas tank but the gas mileage is really good over 30mpg.

I think the biggest problem with CHR reviews are the people who review cars for a living. It’s not as fast as the car I reviewed yesterday. It doesn’t have a sunroof. While it may not be the perfect car, it is a great little reliable Toyota. Our CHR is a 2018. 60 thousand miles and hasn’t been to a repair shop ever.

@meerkat1954

The appeal of the CH-R to me was simple. For the price, Toyota makes the most reliable and longest lasting cars in the world. The Sherman tank and T-34 tanks won World War II because they were reliable, not because they were the fastest. And you know what the most awesome looking car that Toyota makes is? Yup the CH-R. Some might say the Supra but it's three times the price and it doesn't have the cargo space you need for groceries and daily city living. The CH-R does, with world class Toyota quality in the best looking vehicle they currently make, in my opinion. As for the supposed problems: 1) If you get the blind spot monitoring version, it's actually easier and safer to drive than a normal car where you have to take your eyes off the road ahead to look over your shoulder; 2) The sun roof complaint is idiotic. Why would you want the giant nuclear reactor in the sky causing your skin to age faster than normal? 3) How can you complain about gas mileage AND acceleration at the same time? If they put a bigger engine in for faster starts the mileage would be even worse. If they wanted to get better mileage it would have to have an even smaller engine or space age material construction that would triple the price. You're asking for things the laws of physics just don't allow.
