I own one. It's not very quick. A lot of people especially for a car that looks fast like this wants a quick car. The car also can feel a bit weak as a result , the blind spots are terrible (I've always driven cars with shit blind spots I'm used to it). Like this car though it corners great for it's form factor and does it's job

Another amazing review, great work guys! Just one thing to mention as an Ex-Toyota/Lexus service advisor in Darwin, one thing we found for the CHR's in terms of ownership was that, compared to other more mainstream models like the Corolla, Camry, Prado etc, the CHR has really weird Tyre sizes, and therefore it would always cost owners like 3x as much to get their tyres replaced than most other models - perhaps this was also contributed to due to our remote location in Darwin, and such uncommon tyres as CHR tyres were not stocked readily in Darwin all the time, but I'd imagine it would be a similar story down south. So yeah, just some potential value to add to this video, if you're looking to buy a CHR, make sure you're getting the best price possible on tyres as they can be very pricey due to their uncommon size. Cheers

An interesting used review. I have a 2019 model, 1.2 litre turbo with a 6-speed manual. Purchased Feb. 2020. I’ve had no issues at all. It isn’t a road burner, but with a manual transmission I can get the most out of the engine. And in sport mode, I can get a little extra pep. On long trips I have managed 4.8 litres per 100 K’s. Very good on fuel. Overall, I’m still very happy with it. I would have liked to have seen a mention about the manual, and what the mechanic thought about the manual too. Otherwise, an interesting review. 👍

Well done! I have a 2019 CHR XLE with TRD performance part here in the States. I also love the way it looks. It is my daily and I have had ZERO issues with it. It does take me a long time to wash it because I treat all the plastics on the outside and it has a lot of exposed plastics but after 5 years of daily use, the car still looks and drives like new. Actually there was one issue when things were not displaying correctly on my dash board but that was because the battery was going out (I have a 2.0 liter non hybrid) and the issues were fixed with a new battery. Again there is something to be said about that legendary Toyota quality. I looks forward to having this car for a long time to come.

I wouldn't say I love mine, but it's a very good car. Lots of kit, a good look, economical and reliable. Not super quick, and not much room in the back or the trunk/boot. The infotainment system is aweful, but I use my phone. Only one USB port. Nearly 50k miles and no issues. I need more luggage space and 4WD, so I'm upgrading to the RAV. But, if the CH-R is right for you, it's a good choice.

The funny thing about these types of cars is that, although typically car journalists cannot rationalise buying one, the crossovers will somehow be the best selling segment. Look at the Mitsubishi ASX! It's rubbish on paper, but people will happily buy one. I guess for the buyer it's a predictable, safe option.

We have the 2017 1.2 for over 3 years, apart from performance it’s great, yer there are blind spots but the spec gives you warnings when cars are along side or close by, park assist works so I don’t get the issues, only issue we have had is failed air con compressor replaced under warranty, only the very fussy will worry about the slightly dark rear on a day to day basis, the touch screen is slow, you can press the button a couple of times while waiting for it to react. The 1.2 is economical but it’s 113bhp is not enough for this size of car, overtaking in UK busy country roads has to be well planned it’s fine on duel carriageways or motorways it does keep up with the flow of traffic, I would say you need 150bhp to be perfect mix of performance over economy, we only get 3 engines the 1.2 1.8hybrid (which is only a little faster) and the 2.0 181bhp which is still nothing more than adequate plus in the performance stakes (newer models may have different specs) but it’s reliable, dependable and super easy to live with if you like it which contrary to this review nearly everyone I know does) then I would say go for one, my Mrs likes it so much we she is looking at another to replace it, can’t say fairer than that !

The K114 CVT has major issues (check the C-HR forums) and most likely from driver abuse and lack of fluid flushing. I had my 2018 flushed at 30k miles. May have the pand dropped and CVT filter changed at 45k miles due to my C-HR being nearly six years old.

In the UK you get a 10 year warranty up to 100,000 MILES so long as you have the car serviced annually at a Toyota dealer If you want some extra excitement look at the new C-HR plug in Hybrid, 7. Something seconds 0 to 62mph (100kmh) We have had ours 6 years with only 1 issue, a flat battery during COVID as what not driven for 3 months, and the battery has not given any problems since The proof of the pudding is it cost £30k in 2018 and they still sell for £15k+ with less than 40.000 miles and it is not surprising with so few problems and 4 years of warranty still. My Jaguar I Pace cost £65k 5 years ago and only worth £20k now, but better to drive than the C-HR😂😂😂 Great and honest review by yourself

The CH-R to me always looks like a pissed off Rav4 for some reason. Like the new video format layout but one thing that'd be good would be a bit of music for the transitions between segments. Surprised at how practical yet aesthetically pleasing the interior is. Was considering one of these for myself but the blind spot and non-mechanical problems, while rare, are pushing me towards the Lexus that shares the same platform or a Mazda CX-6. Thanks for your great, fun to watch reviews! 😃 👍🏻 I love the styling. I remember sitting in a new one checking interior quality in 2018. I fiddled with the indicator/flasher and wiper stalks and noticed the when you operate one, the one on the other side moves. Toyota cheapness + that digital clock from the 80s! The boot was small, the back seating quite claustrophobic.. Also priced high in comparison. 😂 You're 💯 right when you said it just doesn't inspire you. Just those exterior looks are fantastic.

I'm sorry, just... No. I appreciate that its styling is a bit adventurous and different, but in a crowded segment like this, where there are so many options, I just don't see it. Where's the main selling point? The CH-R has massive blind spots, limited practicality (compare it to a Corolla for size and space), a miserable environment for backseat passengers, and that woefully underpowered powertrain (57.4 kW/t?! And saddled with a CVT on top of it all). If this was entry-level first car money, I'd understand the appeal, but you'd have to be mad to drop the 45K dealers are asking (even for a demonstrator model) on this and get what is basically 2010 Toyota Yaris performance.

However I was surprised how well the 1.2 and CVT went went in the C-HR compared to the 1.2 in the work Skoda Yeti with DSG. No flat spots and smooth if droney power delivery in the C-HR . hated the dark interior of the C-HR always thought we should have got the new Corolla wagon in Australia instead of this overstylised SUV.

My olds just bought a new hybrid corolla and I remember my Father telling me about this new sporty car called a C-HR. Think for me the blind spots on the car are enough reason to not buy one, just buy a corolla or Yaris instead if you are after a small hybrid. If I buy something small myself I want a sporty manual car so that would rule out the corolla and yaris unless you get the GR.

With a TBTL factor of just 0.25, but with one of the most useful and clever floor plans, as comfortable as an old Lexus, drives like a Camry, but has a huge belly. With zero claustrophobia in the rear, or rear rear seats. Air conditioning for everyone, very popular in Singapore, which also happens to be the most expensive country in the world to own a car. Seats fold to create a perfectly flat floor for camping or hauling crap. Not a Tarago or Alphard. Sold officially in Straya from 2001 to 2010. What could it possibly be?

It's a great car with some quirks. It drives great, it's super reliable, it's comfy, it's incredibly nippy (less than 5 liters on 100km with the 1.8l engine are possible). People wanting a sporty car will absolutely avoid the CVT, visibility is a bit annoying at times, the trunk door is really, really heavy and the trunk has a big load lid (that's why it's certainly not ideal for elderly people or small females). I don't know how the owner of the car in the video managed to fuck up the interior like that. Are her hands made of sand paper?

I saw one of these the other day and thought it looked pretty cool. Went home to do some research only to find out it's underpowered and not surprisingly, over priced. Surely this should have come out with a 2 litre turbo! Looks like Japan are back to making underpowered cars like they did in the 80's with models like the 4runner; big car/truck/SUV whatever you want to call it with a tiny underpowered engine. The last time I saw power figures like this was also in the 80's. I guess if all you're doing is driving around town and you're a hairdresser, this car is for you. But at that price, I'd prefer something else....anything else. Underpowered and over priced, pity it looks so good.

You're quite right about the Toyota line up. Their cars are very down in power but every now and then they'll get the GR Dept to make a performance version. There's too large a gap between the normal engines and the HR versions. The recent hype Toyota has been getting is only due to their GR versions. GR 86, GR Supra, GR Yaris, GR Corolla. Otherwise no younger people would even pay attention.

I live in the UK and do 90% of driving in the city, 30-40mph max. The hybrid system has very good pickup at those speeds. But none of that really matters when I get over 80mpg on some runs and i have peace of mind with 10 years warranty
@joshjoshspangler

@@mdo yeah good point. I guess if that's the sort of driving you're doing, then this car is spot on as I mentioned in my post. Here in Australia, it's under powered and dangerous for overtaking on our many freeways, highways and main roads.

The 1.2 Litre engined version is the one to avoid. I cannot comprehend why they brought that to the market - unless it was just for the school run by timid soccer mums - or as a first car for new drivers. Go for the 1.8 or 2.0 Litre Hybrid versions. The latter will NOT disappoint in terms of acceleration or agility for the average user. If you’re a racer demon, buy a GR version.
