I bought a fake watermelon about a month ago. It was like sponge. I wanted to show my son in law those melons weren’t real so I bought another one. The inside was like gel and long white strings. The manager removed them from the shelves or box. People couldn’t believe it they weren’t real fruit.

When I visited Japan, I was astounded at how real looking the fake food was in restaurants. They have them outside instead of a menu, so you can actually see what you get. And what you do get is very close to what is shown on the outside. It's no wonder they were able to make them look as real, its cuz of people like this who dedicated their life to the art.

This man's creations are magnificent. I'm stunned by how easily he manipulates his liquids into incredibly realistic looking food. He's so talented and appears to take such joy in his work. Isn't it wonderful? I'm nervous because of a big storm bearing down on me, dreadful lightening and etc. I've been watching radar, but somehow I ended up here, with this sweet smile. 私の亡き祖父が料理人で大衆食堂を経営していました。子供の頃ガラスケースに置かれていた食品サンプルをよく玩具に遊ばせてもらってた記憶があります。もしかしたらこの方が造られたサンプルだったのかな凄い美味そうなサンプルだった🤤 じいちゃんサンプル大事にしてて毎日綺麗にして飾ってたなぁ～料理作っては、ばあちゃんと食堂切り盛りしてたなぁ

this is probably how they make government food except they don't care how it looks, and neither does Walmart. Chemicals, some paint, some more chemicals and this is probably what we are all eating in the US. At least this guy is honest about it not being real food though, and he can probably tell you all the chemicals he used to make it.

I think it's amazing that he has been a craftsman making food samples for such a long period of time, 53 years. I think Japanese food samples are made to make it easier for customers to choose a menu by looking at the showcases outside the store. Also, I think they make samples (models) because actual food can lose quality if left in a showcase for a long time. There is a Japanese technique that does not waste food. This is reflected in the food samples. A very Japanese thoughtfulness. The raw material is polyvinyl chloride, a plastic resin. They are made by pouring them into warm water.
