This is clearly not the process they use daily... there's a power hammer behind the smith and the 2 disciples aren't proficient at swinging even a sledge...

Igaz,sok értelme nincs ennyi időt és energiát belefektetni egy csupán dísztárgyként funkcionáló régi kardba! Nem hiszem,hogy valaki egy katanával dolgozna a konyhába…😂😁😄😃😀🤭🫡
Seeing videos like this one really makes me to want to spend a day or two observing this process in person. I have sooooo many questions to ask.

That was truly beautiful in the artistry in making the katana.

Nothing is simple. Striking a match..NO..hammer a piece of iron until it glows and lights the match on it. I'm sure it has some old traditional meaning instead of using a Bic plastic lighter. :) He taps the lump of iron on the anvil to signal he's ready and also to get rid of slag flakes. The ash is to raise the carbon content in the steel, and the clay "sauce" is to contain the ash so it doesn't drizzle off. A beautiful piece of art!

I always enjoy watching the art of katana forging, an ancient tradition that refuses to die out even today. I pray that this tradition will remain in practice for future generations. For the way to the future is by paying respects for the past.
I was recently able to purchase a tamahagane shirasaya, I simply love it, and I also love watching these forging videos. True artisans they are, simply beautiful craftsmanship, and attention to detail indeed.

Quite interesting to see a Western person as an apprentice. Must be extremely difficult to get a spot as an apprentice to a master, especially for a non-Japanese.
@moi6965 Жыл бұрын
Being the Western apprentice, I’d say it is not easy to get a spot, but not as hard as most people think. Provided that you speak perfect Japanese of course. If you don’t, I wouldn’t recommend starting such an apprenticeship anyway!
@deadcxap755 Жыл бұрын
And it's also quite expensive. The masters believe that the old traditions cannot be widely disseminated, but for the sake of money they will teach at least the devil.
@ColtonWilson3000 Жыл бұрын
Actually it's becoming more and more easy. As traditional swordcraft is dying out. So most are more then eager to try on western apprentices. There is about 300 smith's as of now. 10-15 years from now there will be roughly 30. As most will have retired. And most apprentices nowadays don't stay until completion. And there is less and less apprentices applying.
