DeGuang is my favorite one here. The sanctuary looks like a modern reimagining of some of the wood-centric sanctuaries that were trending in the 60's and 70's.

Isn't it funny how we interpret design? I know many people don't care for these designs at all, but love gothic. I wonder if gothic design was universally embraced when it was considered modern? Are we rejecting designs based on their merit or just because they're new? And how much does/should tradition play in design? Plenty of unanswered questions for me.

Very surprised that my internal response was dislike for most of these. I’m a big fan of modern design, but I couldn’t jive for some reason. To be fair, being there in person may produce a different response. (Also, the curmudgeon in me is thinking, “where are all the people?” lol)

Yeah, these photos are all taken by architectural firms for portfolios, so I imagine people in them isn’t the goal?

Unfortunately I didn’t see any of these churches as worthy of the name. Shopping malls, community centers or concert halls maybe but not worship centers meant to raise your hearts and minds to heaven.

Most all of these feel like communist buildings that lack beauty and are meant to crush the spirit instead of raise it. Not sure I can get onboard with these type styles. While it is great to blend in with the community in the style of the building, we know beauty when we see it, and sorry, but I am not seeing it. The final church in South Korea is the only one that has look that inspires and captures some level of beauty in my view.
