There's a saying my dad always said to me growing up, "A farmer never plants if he waits for perfection" There will never be a perfect time to do anything and waiting for it is a waste of time. Go out and just do it. Really inspiring and can't wait to follow you through the next chapter in your life!

Every advice you give is spot on. I realized most of these at an old age (27) and being a perfectionist, so i am very behind, but you can only change the future.

I am sure you have investigated all of this already, but as a Swiss living in Switzerland, I have to "chime in" with a few words - of course! First of all, I am happy to hear that you have selected Switzerland, I can indeed highly recommend it. All things considered, this is surely a great place to be. Small, connected to everywhere, everything is clean, works smoothly, there is plenty of beautiful nature, the montains are fun all year through and the quality of life is just incredible I would say. Have you already decided which city you are going for? Switzerland is pretty "divided" in the sense that for us around Bern, Zurich etc, Geneve almost doesn't exist, it's "far" away and they speak a different language and all. ;) Bern is great for connectedness to Switzerland, as you stand in the center of all the big cities and you are fast in the beautiful alps. But it's tiny and not much going on. Zurich is much bigger, more possibilities, interesting food and all the good stuff. But less charming. Also in a place like Bern, people will give you looks for driving a Ferrari, even the rich ones, as it is "not done" that much there. In Zurich you see all the matt black Lambos and whatnot, all ok. :D It's funny how you want to move here and I, although I love it here, always think I would love to live in London for a while at least. I used to visit often on weekends before covid. Hopefully now more often again.

Hope you get well soon Ethan. You remind me of what manager says although I don't need any encouragement to apply for promotions when any oportunities are advertised . When my applications don't succeed I learn from the feedback I recieve . Good luck with your plans .

I live half the year in France and half the year in UK. Intention is to live in France full time but still not got around to it. Had a house there for several years so no reason not to go. Definitely going to make the move soon. Procrastination is not conducive to a settled way of life. Good luck with your plans.

Hello Ethan. Good to see you. Yeah, I think I know what you mean about being motivated vs. laziness or uninspired. I can also relate to the thing about making exuses. For me, sometimes I think I deserve to relax and do nothing for awhile and that it's a healthy thing to do. Which it is. But then Im in conflict with myself because I feel like Im wasting time doing nothing. I'm so used to always being busy. All the best to you with whatever you decide to do. Sounds like your heart is in it for very good reasons so I'm sure It'll all work out for you. Good luck.

Go for it Ethan! Leave the comfort zone that slows you down. I totally feel you. I myself am quitting my job by the end of December and in Spring I will enrol in a new MSc, an online one. I'm currently saving money to have a deposit besides the unemployment benefits, for that one year that I'll be studying. My wife supports me, my kids are too young to give an F. In any case, I have to take this step in order to get a better job, so I'll leave my comfort zone and my office chair, which holds me back...

Just moved house myself so know what you are embarking on! Sad you aren't staying here in Blighty but guess you know what you like. Interesting you mention that you have a flat in London, could that be why you feel the need to move, just too London centric? Home in UK/countryside might give you the space/peace you need. All the best & kind regards.

We must pursuit our happiness. Starting over is a difficult decision but it is better to try now instead of trying when we have 60 years old or regret not trying when we're younger. Good luck!

I live in Austria half the year, I have not taken the big step to move there full time but due to the state of the UK I am thinking about it more and more. There is a problem with moving money to a new Country, their laws, taxes etc, are you thinking about cutting all ties with the UK? I would be very interested in a video on how you intend to make the move and do you know how expensive it is in Switzerland? Best wishes with you new life.

Ever tried “us” in your life? Living for “I” is fun but living for “us” is so much more mentally stimulating. Don’t worry about an intangible audience. Be free and share/motivate with another human. Just some advice from a fellow eye doc.
