BrownswickBowling Hi Randy, I know that you live a very busy life, but I want ask if you could give me input on a bowling ball. I'm 12 years old and have been bowling for around two years now. I throw a 15 lb storm crux and 15 lb Hammer Cherry Vibe. Both balls were used from eBay and they don't hook like they used to. I'm thinking about buying a new ball with a high hook potential that it 150 and below. Preferably storm. By the way my review rate is around 400. Thanks.
@ProdigyBowlersTour7 жыл бұрын
Reactive resin bowling balls lose their hook power if you don't properly maintain them. It's a good idea to get into the habit of wiping the oil off of them BEFORE EVERY SHOT, and to use a ball-cleaner solution on them at the end of every single bowling session. The microscopic pores on the surface of the ball soak in lane oil with every throw, and over time, that oil fills up the pores, reducing the ball's ability to do what it was made to do -- grab the lane and produce friction, causing hook. Periodically, you should resurface each ball and "de-oil" it beneath the surface. A pro shop will do this for you, although they charge somewhere in the neighborhood of $25 or $35 per ball to do it. I bought a ball spinner, which I have here at home. About a $250 investment that's paid for itself many times over in just the last few years. So I do all my own resurfacing. And while I don't own a ball "oven" to bake the oil out of my bowling balls (Storm doesn't recommend this method), I can open up the pores with an abralon pad and my ball spinner and then put a ball in a bucket of hot water and Dawn dish soap and let it soak for about 20 minutes (the Storm-recommended method). Not all ball manufacturers recommend the hot, soapy water method. Brunswick, for instance, says that method will damage the core of their balls, so they recommend the oven method. (Not the oven in your kitchen, though, a low-heat oven designed specifically for de-oiling bowling balls). If you maintain your equipment properly, its hook power will be retained much, much longer. I have a Crux Pearl that I still throw, and it still hooks plenty. So think about maintenance before dropping $200 on a new ball and drilling. Generally speaking, I don't recommend bowling balls because such a recommendation should be less about complimenting a bowler's style and more about what hole you have in your arsenal that you need to fill. For example, if you don't have a solid, I would add an aggressive solid. If, at the other end of the spectrum, you don't have a urethane ball, that might be where I'd look to fill a hole in your progression (and judging from your rev rate, I'm sure you could make good use of a urethane ball). Consult with your local pro shop operator for the best advice here. (And I should tell you I am purely a Storm/Roto guy. I don't pretend to even be at all familiar with any other lines of equipment.)

Thanks, Jessie. This was the last show for a while. We might do one or two Road Show Specials between now and September, but nothing's planned at this time. I really want to take the show to some other bowling centers in the area to expose it to new audiences. But there aren't many active junior programs anywhere in the Summer, and all the good bowlers will be gone to Junior Gold for pretty much the rest of July. So we're limited to August to do these shows. Of course there's always the chance that I might bump into some of our kids practicing at our home house, which could prompt me to whip our my iPhone and record a PRODIGY SHORT. But again, those are very spur-of-the-moment, totally unplanned things. So the only thing I can say for sure is, we'll be back at it when Fall league starts up after Labor Day.
@jessienolan27257 жыл бұрын
I started bowling last July and came across your show well looking for bowling tip videos and got hooked. I've watched every episode now and was quite impressed with the progress they all made from this time last year! The tips and advice you give in each episode have helped a lot and your camera skills are PBA level, love how you zoom in on every shot and explain things in a simple easy to learn kinda way. I look forward to the next season of the show and any small or on the road episodes you find time for this summer! Wish we had a coach and program like this where I live, would be so helpful and a whole lot of fun!

Another great episode Randy! Thanks again for all you do with this program and production. And look at that near the 5k sub mark!
@ProdigyBowlersTour7 жыл бұрын
I'll be interested to see if the steady increase in subs slows at all during this period when we're not feeding the beast with a steady stream of new content between now and when we start up the next series of full-length PRODIGY shows soon after Labor Day. But I have a few surprises planned between now and then. It's crazy to think that when I first started putting up junior bowling matches back in September (a couple of months before we even gave the show a name), my little KZbin channel, which had originally been set up so I'd have a place to upload videos of ME bowling, it had a whopping total of about 35 subscribers. That's 35 VERY BORED people! LOL! Then, within three months time, over the Christmas holiday, we went over the 1,000 mark in subscribers. That's when I knew something was going on here. Then 2,000. Then 3. And now, you're quite right, we might just cross the 5K threshold before Summer is out. And if we don't, it's likely we will soon after we start up adding new shows again come September. Might have to do something special when that happens. I'll noodle on it.

You know, one of the formats I really used to like was the Motel 6 series they had Roll to Riches. Elimination format of 6 bowlers then the final 2 had a race to 6 strikes for the win of the riches (or in this case signing the pin/bragging rights). BTW I guess it just goes to show 4,765 people enjoy youth bowling over watching us older guys lol!

@ProdigyBowlersTour7 жыл бұрын
This was absolutely the most fun episode (for me, anyway) that we've done. Not only did I get to compete in it (although I bowled like a one-legged blind man in qualifying), but we had a record number of participants (31). Plus, there were two more PRODIGY semi-regulars (Jesse G. and Savannah) who showed up, just to watch. So we could have hit 33, or possibly 34 or 35, depending on if their parents had chosen to bowl. But alas, they all just came to watch. It was an awesome day. And Charlie wasn't even there. He would have made 32 (or 35, depending on how you're counting), and I KNOW his dad would have wanted to bowl if they'd been in town. So it really was just an amazing day. A great way to wrap up Season One on PRODIGY.
@Steve.Orland7 жыл бұрын
haha randy you're awesome. i wish we could meet. prodigys first season is already over?
@ProdigyBowlersTour7 жыл бұрын
Yes, that was explained at length in this episode. This episode was filmed immediately following the final session of our Summer Spare Clinic at Brunswick Zone Roswell. I did the spare clinic this year (and last year) instead of a Summer league, because attendance at Summer junior leagues is always spotty. And I limited it to 4 weeks this year because I wanted some time to be able to take the PRODIGY show to a few other bowling centers this Summer, which I coudln't do if I was stuck at our home center. Bottom line is: There are no more episodes PLANNED for this Summer. I hope to do one or two Road Show Specials between now and Labor Day to expose PRODIGY to new audiences at other bowling centers. But keep in mind, other bowling centers have the same issue we do -- spotty attendance at junior leagues in the Summer. Plus, all the best junior bowlers in the area are off to Cleveland this week and next for Junior Gold, and will be gone for a couple of weeks. So we're looking at August before there will even be enough quality junior bowlers in town to do a good show. So I'm planning on taking the rest of July off. Then, if any centers have enough kids around to do a show in August, we might do one or two shows at other centers then. We'll see. Nothing planned as of now. But of course, if I happen to stumble into some of our kids practicing at BZ Roswell this Summer, I might whip out my iPhone and film a PRODIGY SHORT. But again, these are unplanned and very spur-of-the-moment. So yes, the episode you see here is the last regularly-scheduled, full-length PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR episodes until Fall leagues start up shortly after Labor Day. We'll be back in September with weekly (or nearly weekly) shows again. In the meantime, you now have THIRTY (30) PRODIGY episodes to watch. They're all posted on this channel.

Hi Randy. Not that it may matter because the game was won regardless, but in match 3, shouldn't that be a 235 in the 9th frame and a total of 255 total in the tenth? The way I'm adding the 9th is 27 added to 208 (8th frame)= 235...+ strike and spare (10th frame) = 255. Just for records sake than anything else, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Thanks for a great production and supporting the sport of bowling for our youth. Regards, Rick

Hey Randy, you should calculate Pandas Rev Rate for a Prodigy Short just like you did with Christians rev rate.
@ProdigyBowlersTour7 жыл бұрын
Well, I don't see him that often. When I did the one on Christian, I put some tape on his ball to trace the revolutions. Since I don't know when I'll next see Mr. Rondino, I'm not sure when I'll be able to do that. But I think it's safe to say his rev rate is up there.
@etnhero75527 жыл бұрын
Quick question coach! How do your kiddos have such high rev rates? Started bowling with a hook ball 2 years ago and my rev rate is not nearly as high as there's (about 200 RPM). What are some tips to achieve higher revs? Being a lefty, I want to atleast be around Parker Bohn's rev rate (300-350 RPM).

Randy, I want to know if you have ever converted or even left a 4-8-10? I converted one yesterday.
@ProdigyBowlersTour7 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing you're left-handed. A 4-8-10 is almost never left by a right-hander. Charlie once left the 6-9-10 (the reverse of the 4-8-10). It's in the highlight package at the end of this week's show. I've never left the 4-8-10. Not sure I've ever even seen it left.

why you did your video be deleted?
@ProdigyBowlersTour7 жыл бұрын
Because "Hello" by Lionel Ritchie was in the video. Ironically, however, the KZbin algorithm flagged the video simply because the snipped of the song was there. But the song was inside a COMMERCIAL for a music reseller. The commercial was actually selling the Lionel Ritchie album. It's not like I was inserting the song as a background to some schtick I was doing. It was part of a commercial.....a commercial selling that song and the album it's from. I filed a dispute, but rather than waiting for it to be resolved (which could take a month), I just said to heck with it, I'll just take the commercial out, re-edit the show, re-encode it, and re-upload it. In the process, we lost the first 730 or so views. We'll get those back in the first 24 hours easy.
