From a purely music standpoint, this is my 2nd favorite NewJeans song so far behind gods 🦁

The most common interpretation of this is parasocial relationships between idols and fans. The girl in the video is called Bang Heesoo - pronounced bun-hee-soo, bunnies, so she's the representation of the fandom. It's about growing up, thinking that idols are your friends and they help you cope in a way, but then real life comes along (aka the boy lol) and it's time to face the challenges and move on. The much older Heesoo digs out the vhs from a box with all the fandom memorabilia and dives into some good memories where her friends are waiting as if no time has passed. Bittersweet, eh? NewJeans mv "OMG" deals with similar topics and is tied with this one through references ;)

I think the boy also represented normal relationships that she's missing out on because she's obsessed with newjeans and kpop. He's trying to talk to her but she's avoiding him but at the end she realizes newjeans aren't her real friends and she should focus more on her life and her real relationships etc

They don't show her face but a lot of people (including me) recognized the 6th girl. She's the actress who played the character On-jo in the hit Netflix zombie series 'All Of Us Are Dead' last year, also set in a high school. So she had already done 'high school dystopia' projects before.

Hahahah the rollercoaster on you brain hahahah You were so close in The beginning and then confusion hit. The MVs for this are very bittersweet. The para social relationship and the realization that one needs to Live and focus on their own Lives hits hard. Tô me, the dear represents the fantasy, some sort of inocence as well. Ditto is one of my favorite songs drom them, together with cool with you (another with side A and B vídeos and a great story). I personally Love how New Jeans can make such calm and smooth songs also be a bops haha

This is my own perspective as a 50yo Korean who grew up only with American music in Midwest USA, discovering KPOP in the last few years... Bun Heesoo, the girl behind the camera obviously represent the fandom. She is to me represented a s shy and socially awkward girl and reminds me of a lot of American Gen Z youth in that regard. Part of the reason IMO KPOP is sorta blowing up in this generation seems like a lot of these sort of socially awkward youth are rejecting the POP music of American norm for lack of relating to the ppl making the music or being marketed towards and found KPOP as an alternative music to call their own. Back to Hee Soo, her inability to relate to and socially adapt to her school life finds her getting attached to imaginary friends for psychological comfort, in this case represented by NewJeans. Her attachment is so strong that she imagines NewJeans being her best friends never apart, always hanging out together. This helps her cope in the beginning but obviously is not healthy in the long run. As a social commentary I believe this kind of thing isn't all that uncommon in Korean society with all the pressures young students are under to get into good college, so much so that you often read about Korean kids committing suicides not getting in to school that are deemed "Good". idol culture and fandom relationship can be very toxic in this way. This video is telling the Bunnies to please love and enjoy NewJeans but keep their mental health in check and realise the relationship is not real and is manufactured. You need to live real life and not be so obsessed with the idol of your choice. The deer in Korean culture represent innocence of youth. As Heesoo grows up, she needs to let go of her idol obsession and interact with the real life around her, represented by the boy she ends up with at the conclusion of Side B. Adult Heesoo revisiting old memorabilia of NewJeans is saying you can always come back to the fandom after your life is realized, established and healthy, or when you are down and need a pick up later in life, but as a young person, you need to grow into adult first and not waste away obsessing over KPOP idols.

Ditto MVs have many deep layers attached to them (that's why it's an art) but to make it simpler by using its 3 main symbolism, then: Heesoo / Girl with a cast = She could be any of us with an injury (hidden or not) / She represents people who have something going on in life but instead of facing it, they chose something else to distract themselves coz it's the easy path NewJeans = represents "escapism" / anything that gives us momentary relief from unpleasant realities through seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy. As you've observed, NewJeans keep practicing their dance and doing fun things to comfort Heesoo Boy = represents the reality (problems) that Heesoo has been running away for so long Yet at the end of the day people have no choice but to face their nightmares because it is the reality. Thus, you've seen that somewhere at the end of Side B MV. Heesoo now walks along with the Boy (without rain) instead of NewJeans (with rain). She finally accepted the truth when she destroyed that camcorder

lol I love your reaction. It was very similar to mine. Not too much I can add to what already has been said, but you were on the right track. The person calling on her phone was Minji. There's also another theory that the girls got into an accident (hence the cast) and Ban Heesoo was a lone survivor with survivor's guilt. I don't really buy that too much, especially since the director himself said it's the whole parasocial thing. And when you see OMG (same director Wooseok Shin), you'll see how it works into that. Another one that may confuse you is Cool With You. If you don't know art, you may need to do some research after you watch the video lol. I tell ya, the director likes you F with your brain, but I love it!

It's been said it's the parasocial relationship. There reason why it's genius imo ... is art can be read in multiple ways, the more open it is can be interpreted the more people it reaches. If you take the fan/idol relationship, what's one level down ... imo dealing with grief. "kpop saved my life". A lot of people when dealing with pain, turn to art, talking to people, or for physical pain a crutch. You're in pain, your crutch (kpop) should not consume your real life (represented by the boy). hence she wants to move on but it fixated on the NJ (her crutch). The deer is a symbolic and in some mythologies represent, look at change/looking inwards. Once she stops using kpop as a crutch, the deer leaves, she is seen walking with the boy (moving on from the pain). At the end she has a slight smirk, when watching new jeans - her first smile. That's the way i see it. She liked new jeans at the start and the end - Ditto ... (for first as a crutch for pain, and at the end with fond memories, healthier).

Great reaction. IMO, Ditto speaks about the good and bad aspects of being immersed in a Kpop group fandom. The good is that it can help you cope with a bad situation currently being experienced. The girl behind the camera (representing fans) had a cast, possibly from a car accident where she may have lost her parents (never shown), but nevertheless trying to cope with a traumatic experience. She was comforted by imagining her favorite Kpop group members surrounding her with loving companionship. But eventually she had to face reality in order to move on (broke her camera, moved from her imaginary relationship with her Kpop Idols to a real relationship with the Boy). The deer represents childhood innocence. At the end, she had to move on from childhood innocence to face reality. Years later she put in the VHS, and all the happy memories (about how her Kpop group gave her a sense of loving support to help her cope with a traumatic situation) came rushing back. The downside is that if you stay in that imaginary world, your real world will be in ruins as you lose sight of your own necessary personal growth and the needed transition to adulthood with all the associated responsibilities that come with that. And BTW, the blank look on the boy AND her fellow classmates as she was videotaping gives me the impression that they all knew the girl was coping with a traumatic experience and were empathetic. If interested, I think Jordan Orme reaction video "New Jeans Ditto Will Change K-pop Forever" is probably the best analysis of this video.

You're right about it being about fam relationships. In partt B, the protagonist overcomes her isolation, and gets her boyfriend. She can watch Now Jeans anytime because they feel like old friends.

You were warned too much before watching the mv, that gave you a different point of view in watching. You spent 22 minutes plus on side A , then tried to rationalized side a then side b. Where other content creators watch both sides , then try to rational the video. They gave away the plot before your viewing. I wanted your mind to exploded after watching. No surprise reaction. No one can get this video on one viewing, because of things that New Jeans had to face since debuting. Their Ages, content of songs, and dress code for New Jeans becaming an issue with this group. Video is about para-social relationship between New Jeans and fans, and media. Unless you were a bunny from the start, it is hard to interpet this mv. That why it was given to you to must see. Don't take personal. Great job.
