Yup. NewJeans took home some Daesangs "Song of the Year" for 'DITTO' at a few of the recent award shows for 2023 already. Still a bunch more award shows to go for the year.

Ditto and OMG are connected in the sense that they both deal with the idol/fan experience. Ditto it’s from the fan’s perspective, and OMG is from the Idol’s perspective. I’m gonna let a more experienced Bunny explain all the references in the MV, because there are a lot and I don’t wanna mess them up. But they all center in what fans and the media say about them, and they’ve integrated these things into their selves, which could make anyone crazy.

Minji is also a patient, however her delusion is that she thinks she's not a patient and is part of the staff🙃. Haerin is Kitty Kat just like in Ditto & thats her delusion. Hanni is Steve Jobs and also when She's explaining how she exists for the fan(s) she sits at a table writing a note (next to the dove aka twitter) and the note is Addressed to Hee-Soo from Ditto. Hyein's delusion is that she lives in a fairytale in her mind , riding the train aimlessly. Danielle sees whats not even there laughing at blank tv channels, seeing camera people that aren't there . As others have stated this Video is more from the Idols perspective compared to Ditto which is from the Fandoms POV. Rewatch both a few times , it takes time to capture everything. Also if youve already listened to their 1st E.P. then the next Song is. Zero (which is a Coca Cola Ad Campaign MV) Then Their 2nd E.P. Get Up , 🥂

Loved your reaction. Had me laughing 😂 The next couple of videos are easier on the brain until you get to Cool With You. It's not as complicated as Ditto or OMG, but still good. It's more like a K Drama. ETA also has some social commentary from the director about it. Then there's ASAP. I love the song and video but it'll probably leave you asking "WTF did I just watch!?!?|" lol

Good job on catching the aftercredit shade, soooo many reactors missed it completely 😁 also as for Minjis character im not sure because when she speaks about it and we see her collecting other girls and putting them in an ambulance, she finds herself too (girl in a pink sweater crouching) 😅 its a lot i know

Yeah I was like oooooh girl the tea is pipping hot they really blasted y'all for being basic lol. Anyway I noticed that she was on the ground in the pink in follow up watches and I was like "is this a metaphor for her rescuing her past self then becoming a doctor to help others who were like her?" man idk at this point. Daria give me some guidance they keep having me confuzzled lol!

you may need to watch Ditto again, then watch OMG after, just to catch on to the plot again. But in Ditto, when the girls are in the Gymnasium, and start to dance, and Bun Hee Soo was filming them and gets distracted from the boy in the background. The song they are dancing to is OMG. I did not want to say this after you reacted to Ditto, spoilers. but now you watched OMG, I can say it. And you got it, Bun Hee Soo is Hee Soo. Bunnies if you say it all together fast like. The fandom name, bunnies. 18:53 of this clip, you started to mess with your eye, but you missed a small detail. There is a girl sitting in on the back wall, some speculate this is Bun Hee Soo, and she is in the Asylum also watching New Jeans still. is this where she disappeared to in Ditto and why her things were in a box in her room??? IDK lol

Great reaction and analysis. IMO, OMG is foreseeing NewJeans members in the future having mental breakdowns and being institutionalized from their traumatic experiences as Kpop Idols. Yeah, tragic. OMG is a huge meta statement about the parasocial potentially toxic relationship between Kpop Idols and their fans, but from the Kpop Idol perspective. Ditto is about the same parasocial potentially toxic/potentially beneficial relationship, but from the fan perspective. You can see that the 2 mv's are related from the Ditto video dance clips (not just the cat) shown on the OMG video. In OMG NewJeans members are being treated after having mental breakdowns from being Kpop Idols. Hanni (as Siri/Steve Jobs with round glasses, black t-shirt and jeans and sneakers) is crying for help, saying that she has lost her sense of self, that she only exists for her fans and to fulfil the needs of those fans (like Kpop idols are want to do, not just iPhones). Harein thinks she is a cat, becoming what her fandom thinks about her in real life (that she is the living embodiment of a cat). Harein is seen nibling on cat food. Heyein is the member with the most entertainment industry experience, having been a busy child actress and here she is lost in the fairytale of one of her early roles (being lost in how her fans think of her). Minji is the Unnie (the actual oldest member who has a clear role to play in any Kpop Idol group), trying to take care of her members and bringing them to be treated (fulfilling the Unnie role that her fans expect from her). Note that at one point in the video, she stands over HERSELF, and brings herself into the ambulance, and obviously needs treatment too as she has also lost her sense of self and is lost in her fan created role. Only Danielle can remember that they are members of NewJeans, but she is institutionalized too, suffering mental issues, but not to the point of losing her memories. She really is in Danielle from NewJeans, but she is imagining that she is still shooting music videos. She is imagining the crew is there. BTW, the Bear represents the fandom. Potentially very protective like a moma bear, but also potentially vicious and ferocious and deadly (as toxic Kpop netizens are want to be). Jordan Orme (editor for artists like Justin Bieber) does a great analysis in his video "New Jeans OMG Challenges the Essence of K-pop".

The best part about this is that it's completely up to interpretation. I think it runs way deeper than the fan/artist relationship and even tackles the highly sensitive topic of mental health and its role in our society. For example you can see the psychiatrist slowly losing himself in the scene where the patients keep switching between NJ and multiple other people, including all forms of lives and jobs. This to me shows the mental strain it causes to even highly trained professionals. But what I'm very certain about is the stigmata on the NJ members at the beginning. Like you mentioned, they all get "roles" forced upon them by the public. Haerin being the cat (her nickname is literally Kitty Kang), Minji being the oldest and having to take care of the members, Hanni being an example for every public figure that is thought of to exist only for the fans. However, you didn't quite catch Dani and Hyein. Hyein's fairy tail imagery is a hint on her role as a Maknae. She's by far the youngest and the fandom and public see her as that. They want her to be innocent and child-like even as she's growing up. Dani is seen laughing at an empty screen. That's about her being heavily (and unrightfully) criticised for "overreacting" and being "too cheerful". Such a stupid thing to hate on but that's also why her smile fades until the end of the video. After being brought into the institution, she doesn't smile or laugh anymore, because that is why she is criticised. Overall a very strong statement towards the mental health of idols and the criticism and stigmata they go through.

I look forward to your reaction to my favorite NewJeans song "Cool With You". The official music videos (part 1 & 2) are great, but I actually prefer the Dance Performance video. Total Art that is beyond Kpop. Blackpink is still my favorite group, but NewJeans music videos are the state of the art in artistic reach.
