when he performed this, he was going through a really tough time. He was robbed at knifepoint barely coming out alive on valentines day, his ex-girlfriend, who is also his friend had just committed suicide the day before(he wore a black ribbon in honor of her) and then he lost both awards he was nominated for on the Brits. My heart goes out to him.

Cassie Theodora caroline and harry were never in a relationship, she told that in an interview, they were food friends from the start, she knew harry had a crush on her, but at that time he was 17 and she was alot older and both of them thought that’s not what they really want.

This was emotionally taxing on him too. I don’t know if you were aware but he was actually robbed at knife point by a group of guys only a few days prior to this and to make to even worse his ex girlfriend also passed away the same time. So he had a lot of emotion in him for this performance and I think you can see it in his eyes and in the power of his voice during this song. Like it’s so beautiful and so overwhelming but in a wonderful way.

I’m sure A LOT of people has told you this, but Harry lost an ex-girlfriend I think the day before (suicide), someone he actually cared a lot because this was what, 2011? 2012? And he was very young, obviously. She was older than him. If you see images of the red carpet, he’s wearing a black ribbon on his lapel because of that and even his performance wasn’t sure to happen. Harry is very professional, so he sang. But you notice how his voice breaks here and there and watch closely, he’s crying a bit during his singing. I respect this man a lot more after this performance...

Harry in an interview basically said that there are clues [that not the word he used tho] in his songs for you to try to solve and that leaves it open for interpretation by his fans. I love how you picked up the possible connection with the Venus painting. I believe a lot of thought went into creating that visual and ambience for the song and I love everything about it - it blends perfectly with the song and the emotion behind it.

I really love how you caught that he came in on that note almost A cappella , which you also said is extremely difficult to do especially when you are nervous or emotional and he did on pitch ( pitch perfect) I also loved the part where you talk about he records with live instruments/band so when he plays live it still sounds so incredible - you really need to see him perform a live concert- he is quite the entertainer too, he was born to do this business and were happy to watch!!! Botticelli painted “Venus on the Halfshell”, as it is commonly known...Harry has actually said “I am a mermaid”, going so far as to have one tattooed on his arm which ties in nicely with his pearls and love of playing in the wetness of rain showers. I like that you can sense the Renaissance quality to him; he is a work of art. And, yes, how much emotion comes from him during this performance is heart wrenching. You would love his concerts!

Thank you for great reaction. And many of thanks for the symbolism of the stage. The painting you refer to is “The Birth of Venus. The Florentine Platonic Academy interpreted the painting - Venus had two aspects: she was an earthly goddess who aroused humans to physical love or she was a heavenly goddess who inspired intellectual love in them. Plato further argued that contemplation of physical beauty allowed the mind to better understand spiritual beauty. Yes, Harry... keep spreading the love.

Blake, your reaction video popped up in my recommendations. Three years ago, I left this comment on "Falling": "In all honesty, probably because of may age (I am 62) and the fact that my genre of Music as a composer is classical, I've not really paid all that much attention to Harry Styles. I regret that now. After hearing this performance, I have spent the last week learning a little more about him as a musician and a young man. I have listened to him in interviews and watched him in comedy skits on SNL, and he is some magic, it is true! For what it is worth, he also has my respect. What resonates most for me is his humility. Humility is the mark of all great men as it is the defining and divining element that makes of a musician an Artist of the highest order. The compassion he expresses in this performance alone is enough to move mountains for me, so much so, I have just shed a tear. And, I am aware of the difficult week he encountered leading up to it. All the more reason to say he is the real thing, the stuff legends are made of. I feel that young people are so blessed to have such a role model in their lives as Harry Styles. He will prove for them a constant in a world which sees many changes, and not always for the better. I think he is wonderful, and this performance will live in my memory for a long, long while." Three years after the fact of it, I am so convinced of his worth today that Harry Styles is what the world needs right now. And, where he is fulfilling his Life's purpose, I believe he can return people to their faith in Love, simply through being who he is. Blessings, Blake!
