Personally to me what makes a group true "artists" is how experimental they are, versatile, and bold. That's what I love and resonates with me. That's what RV does and why they are the only kpop group I could get into. That's the difference between a legend of timeless music, and groups playing it safe/monotonous for ppl to later lose interest or be forgotten. The way they challenge their creatvity is mindblowingly impressive and refreshing in an industry that celebrates mostly conformity that sells.

as im korean, when peek a boo or bad boy had been released, many people questioned how it can be a good song because it was too experimental for redvelvet called summer queen. but then people noticed . it is that the Red Velvet's identity. yes. not only popular red side but the other side velvet. i think 'the perfect redvelvet' is Legend of RV history.
@승민전-s6v6 жыл бұрын
Makes sense since Red Velvet peaked when Red Flavor was released. I think that's the moment Red Velvet became a household name in Korea. So people were expecting Red Velvet to release songs with a similar vibe to Red Flavor. Notice how Power Up earned them a PAK but not a lot of international fans liked the song. What casual listeners don't know is that Red Velvet is much more than their Red side. So while the Red concepts is a hit with Korean listeners, Velvet is for mostly the international fans/listeners. Reveluvs/fans would be more accepting of both sides even if they have another preference because it's basically what Red Velvet is, versatile and experimental with their music. Maybe that's why RV isn't as popular as other GGs because they don't tend to stick to one concept and it puts people off. Or they don't seem to make music that's currently on trend? How do the public react to RV in Korea about their music and all that?
@참나무-e9g6 жыл бұрын
@@승민전-s6v yeah. Twice is one example. twice is the same generation GG with RV , but twice has been adhering the constant concept like catching songs. and they are successful now ,having many Kor or nonKor fans.i think twice's popularity in korea shows you that it is the Korean taste. if i ask americans that what is your fav music genre?, then they maybe answer RnB or band music or something various. however Kpop is idol-centered market structure. when major idol comebacks, you can see all music charts are full of thier album tracks. so because of this kind of idol focused music, RnB or old pop, Indie band music usually can't survive.

The beat and percussion continue through that bridge part, so it seems coherent and consistent to me, not as jarring. Anyway, at first listen I too was put off, but upon multiple listens I like the song. I am really put off by the Halloween theme this close to Christmas. I think you have to listen to the song outside of the music video, you need to listen to it on its own without the music video to really appreciate the song itself. The vocals stand out that way and you really start to hear all the great runs they are doing in the background. So try and listen to it sans video, IMO it's better. The instrumentals are very crisp and fresh in this.

The thing about Red Velvet is that they don't give you basic. They don't give you a song you can forget. Even if it is because you adore it or absolutely hate it, it stays with you and eventually, as you understand the way they take on their music is different from everyone in kpop, you end up liking it. Why? Because Red Velvet doesn't make bad songs, only different ones, and you get to realize that with time. Something about the perfect formula and chemistry of putting these five women together in a group makes every song their very own. I can't imagine any other artist performing Really Bad Boy. And at the end of the day, the fact that they end up making me feel this way with every single song of theirs is what really matters. Because in years to come and when people do try to cover their songs, everyone will realize a huge part of the songs being so good was that Red Velvet sang them. THAT is legacy.

Thank you. When you listened to it a second time, I remembered why I always look forward to your reviews. This song is too much of a shock to judge on one listen; I particularly love how they flirted with jazz in this release because I haven't heard much of it in K-Pop. I was completely overwhelmed on the first listen, but on the second listen onwards my brain started breaking down each individual element and I haven't been able to stop listening to it since. Some notes: - The Irene & Yeri twin scene is definitely a reference to The Shining, given the cinematography through the corridor which is unique to that. - Try to watch one of their live performances on the music shows. The performances are really impressive. They also have a live performance of one of their B-Sides, Butterflies (which is a more conventional pop song) - I believe the Halloween theme was a slip-up on SM's part (something to do with scheduling their different groups' comebacks). Oh well, if they say it's Halloween go for it lol

Yeay, finally! PD, your channel is one of my favorites! When RBB came out I'm really curious for your reaction and also your reasons about the MV. What I respect about your reaction video is that you're explaining it with various angles and approach. I'm working in entertainment industry also and I'm really enjoying your video. Yup, RBB is one of RV's experimental-ish MV, but it came out great for me. My favorite would be the bridge part, tho. LOL I have soft spot for that kind of music and shifting style. The choreo is also good, you better watch the live performance! What I'm happy about this MV is that Wendy's great voice is being explored to the max! Yeah, she didn't come out to play with this comeback. And the "SPEED TALKING" thing is so interesting, I tried to listen it again and I understand what you mean about that. Somehow RBB is kinda "EXPERIMENTAL RAP PERFORMANCE" for me. Waiting for more of your reaction videos!

I rarely disagree with you but in this song I have to fully disagree. I fell in love with this song ON THE FIRST LISTEN. I have been super obsessed with this song.

I agree FIRST LISTEN and I can't stop listening. It's brilliant

@Hamburger Helper People should stop assuming what they're getting and people also need to stray away from typical basic pop. That's not the only good music.

@Hamburger Helper Also not every song is gonna be an immediate like for everyone, sometimes it's an acquired taste for some. I didn't like Bad Boy when it came out or Peek-a-boo and now I love them
@davidpt6 жыл бұрын
@Hamburger Helper Also I can agree with him that the lyrics are subpar but that's the only category where I can criticize this song. Everything else felt strong. I love how almost the whole song was harmonized. The vocals are an absolute eargasm.

After all this time,great comeback to another great one, Rookie is still irresistable to me 😂 I love Bad Boy so much and RBB is pretty good too but Rookie is just ughh i still can't resist it, still on loop that i feel like i've been listening to it forever😂
@MssMercedes6 жыл бұрын
I thought the exact same way as you the first time I heard this song. I think I was very distracted looking for similarities to Bad Boy plus the Halloween video in November. but now I've heard it like 10 times and I'm obsessed with it

I can’t logistically explain why but any song of there’s that starts with an “R”, I just dislike at first but I love the video. With Rookie, Russian Roulette, Red Flavor, and now RBB it’s been the same way, but by watching the video so much, I grow to love the song as well

A1 Rizz lmao i can see that. 😂 i just realize R is stand for Red concept

Perfect for long-distance driving playlist - just like Rookie. Vocals are essentially part of the rhythm section and create an insane forward momentum. If SM could learn to read the calendar, RBB would have drawn more buzz released in October, since the Halloween references were obvious. While Peek A Boo had a scary-creepy theme, it did not directly tie in to Halloween so its (November?) release was no big deal. When you literally spell out “howloween” in your mv, why miss the date?

lmao this was also my reaction to power up, the day they released it i was like "wtf is this" then a few days later i was like singing "Ba-banana ba-ba-banana-nana" out of nowhere.

Just want to add RRB is one of the best songs RV has ever done. It's so catchy and full of energy

Was I the only one who got a "Thriller" vibe from the MV? I mean it wouldn't be the first time RV referenced Micheal Jackson. Doesn't matter, love this whole album. Sassy Me found its way instantaneously into my top 5 RV songs, though RBB did take a couple listens to really appreciate. I think that's one of the great things about RV, multiple listens are rewarded with new discoveries, which is the mark of great music in my humble opinion. Reveluv for life yo!

I loved really bad boy from the jump but i definitely get why people would not like it. It was really repetitive but I think that its still good. For me, I love brass horns in pop songs as long as its not overwhelming. I love Halloween so much I was actually really happy that it was Halloween themed, even if it really didn't make sense. I love all of these outfits though and how they all had their horror trope part. Can we talk about Joy for a second tho??? Yeri is my bias but phew Joy was wrecking my shit. I loved everything about her in this video, especially all of her outfits. Specifically, I'm super whipped for her sparkly outfit with the gloves. Red Velvet really brings the gay outta me tbh like wow. I was really sad when I saw that Joy didn't wear those sparkly pants on stage; they switched them out for some velvet ones. smh hopefully in a future stage they'll give her pants back.

Listen to the entire album !! So Good is sooo good, just like Sassy Me and Taste. I really loved how they utilized Wendy's and Seulgi's voices too. Also, the harmonies are insane throughout the song. BTW: the jump rope move is new and is not sampled in their other dances.

I know the thing with Red Velvet title tracks and how it usually takes time to like them, but I just think it kinda funny that the first time I heard this chorus, I immediately loved it and decided that it was my favorite RV song. Right now, listening to it properly and hearing their others songs, I still love it.
