Producer’s Pride Guardian chicken coop review

I can't agree with the manufacturer's assessment that the size is suitable for 14 adult hens. However, it would be easy enough to build an addition off the end with the man door. Any of your viewers that are interested in building their own coop would do well to read Fresh-Air Poultry Houses by Prince T. Woods. Written 100 years ago before people became dependent on grid power to care for their birds. It still being in print shows how valuable it is. Thank you for giving your honest opinion of this coop.

I would agree that the best option would be building a coop yourself. This one served us well since we have other projects going on, and I’ll definitely do an update in the future as to how it’s holding up. Thank you for the book recommendation! I’ll have to look into that.

Hi. Great chicken coop, or hen cree as we call them. But very impressed. Haven't had time to make the Chaballah bread, yet. Busy planting my seedlings in the back garden. still got loads to do. Did look up the role the bread plays in Judaism. Very interesting. I've been an atheist since I was 11, but still study the three great religions of the world. I've been reading the Talmud. Fascinating. Well thanks for posting. always relaxes after a hard day.

I’ve never heard of “hen cree”. How interesting! You may actually know more about the history of challah bread than I do at this point 😅 I’m not Jewish so my understanding of the bread is limited to it being fluffy and delicious. I’ll take a look deeper into the origins of it as I’m sure it’s got a rich history! All the best with your current land transition!

Thank you! We’re talking about switching this one over for the bunnies and building a much bigger one for more chickens, but that’s a project for a later date. Always something going on!

We have this coop too, though we've only had it for a few weeks. I'm wondering if the ventilation is sufficient since there's no place for a cross breeze, and if this will be an issue in the winter when they'll spend more time inside the coop. We live in Ohio. I'm also not sure how drafty it'll be in the winter. Have you had this coop through the winter?

That’s a valid concern. We have not had it through the winter yet, and if I find that this coop is having any issues, I will definitely update with another video. I think if it’s a concern for us, a great place to put another window would be the side opposite of the nesting box. Cutting it out to size and putting up some trim, then covering it with hardware cloth seems sufficient. After filming this, I decided I want to turn it into a bunny hutch for our rabbits, and build a much larger coop for the birds when we can get around to it. With lots more air flow, of course 😉 I wish you all the best with your coop and please do let me know if you find you have issues during the winter with ventilation. I’m interested to hear how it works for you!

Wife and I were looking to get this one, how did it ship? completely built and they put it on your property or do you have to assemble or build it ?

We purchased it directly from tractor supply and brought it home on our trailer. It is very heavy. My husband assembled it from the instructions that came with it.
