When you were talking about the word court/courting, the western equivalent of when a male wants to date a female is like "Can I hit on you?" but in the Philippines culture is really romantic just like what you said it's old word romantic. Males usually will ask the females "Pwede be kita ligawan?" which is "Can I court you?" in English. Fun fact: Even in the courting culture, music plays a huge part. Males will HARANA (serenade) the girl they like.

its the singing culture here that really helps the raw talent, yes majority of filipino can sing but not everybody, and yet everyone is encourage to sing everyone is allowed to go all out in a kareoke even iv you relly cant sing and no one will stop, discriminate, insult or make funny of you... and fhe encouragement starts at a very young age, kids here are ask to sing and dance for our grandparent in family gatherings...

Music really is deeply rooted in the Philippines culture, so much so that when the Spanish conquistadors banned Kali (FMA) the natives incorporated the moves of the martial arts into a dance so it won't be forgotten. Singing is such a part of the culture that Filos do it when doing household chores. Lol! Imagine seeing someone doing a solo concert while cleaning the house.
