Since ScaleTrains has theirs coming out Athearn will probably do the different versions also. Plus a AC4400 since they have molds.

Personally I am a steam fan along with early diesels, but if someone likes modern equipment they look like very good models.

Thanks for thw vid James. These are nice however I'm spoilt and have come to expect certain features on my locomotives. Hopefully the T3 GEVOs will show up in the Genesis 2.0 line.

Wow those are very nice locomotives James, I see you got NS 7539 which I have the Intermountain version, but it does not have the first generation K5HL horn in it’s sound. I am selling it as I am modeling my local railroad. It’s cool to see they put the first generation horn on both which is correct for the real ones. I didn’t see the NS units bell but I am sure it’s an E-bell, although the CSX has a mechanical bell. Keep it up 👍🏻

I have been very pleased with the Genesis models. Its a huge toss up these days with Scaletrains being a top contender. I still consider Athearn Genesis in the top 3 best units.

genesis probably has more pulling power, stiall has greater detail. no brainer on which one to get, your only pulling passanger cars, lol

I got the same engine for Christmas only mine is a bachman and is ns 8114 the heritage unit, the only difference in detail from the atheren from what I can tell is my rear ditch lights dont flash

Does anyone know if you can run Athearn locomotives together with ScaleTrains locomotive using DCC?

You can run any DCC locos together no matter what manufacturer, you just got to put them in a consist and speed match, I do that with my ScaleTrains Tier 4 ET44AC, and my Genesis SD70ACe, also with my atlas C40-8W, all locos are capable just can’t with dc/dcc locos together

Automax2323 No problem! Also when you get a dcc controller I suggest getting the NCE Powercab, they are the best out there for their price.

PokeyRailFanning thank you, I’ll look into that. I have so many BLMA/Atlas modern block signals, I’ll need something that’s strong enough to power/handle a larger than club size layout. Also, I have some of the latest Walthers locomotives as well, hopefully those won’t be an issue running with the Athearn and ScaleTrains .
