Product Review 20 - Daler & Rowney Simply Natural Hair Brush Zip Case

In this video I review the 10-brush natural hair set from Daler and Rowney - it is a great set for an absolute beginner to watercolour and I was impressed with the quality.

have you tried the 'simply oil' brush case by any chance? that doesnt say what the bristle is either, im thinking of trying that out.

Karen Spooner Lyndsey The Frugal Crafter used it not long ago to paint watercolour on some tins. It is similar to reverse-gesso in a way in that you paint it onto a non-porous surface and then you can paint watercolour on it - it enables you to use canvas or wood block or whatever to paint on.

Hey spindoc. Question. I can't find the aqualon (royal & langnickel) basic brush set. You know with the acryllic handle (w/o softgrip) I wonder if you have that in your stash or can send it to me? Offcourse I'll pay you for it ( duuh ) I don't mind if you used it allready for review or classes btw : Flat, round & angular prefarably 6 or 8 for round brush. Much to my dismay they royal & langnickel didn't even bother to sent me a confirmation mail.

A .Vultink I don't have many of their brushes tbh and no watercolour ones sorry. Ryman in the UK sells them, as do various other cheap shops worldwide like Target and so on.

Oh damnit. So bloody frustrating to not be able to find decent studentgrade brushes & when you mail their business when you do find them, that they don't even bother to contact me. Figured since you live in the uk you'd have easier access to them,lol. do you know some webshops who charge in euro's who sell these??

UK Amazon will ship many items to NL easily - just login and when you view an item it will tell you. D&R Graduate brushes are amongst the best student ones in terms of value for money but Aquafine brushes are fantastic for the price and are closer to pro brushes (but not quite). Dalon are their pro line. I would go with Aquafine brushes myself.

What is the embossing look your looking to figure out?

Erin S. It was to do with making a fake Venetian glass. I think I've now cracked it since yesterday.

One way to tell if a fiber is natural or synthetic is to burn a small sample of it. A natural hair will smell like burning hair of course. The synthetic will be melty and smell like burning plastic.

darkanne01 You can tell by holding it to the light more easily - natural fibres don't have a uniform lustre but synthetic does.

Also wanted to thank you for such a wonderful resource. At MD appt yesterday gave some watercolor supplies to my nurse. I obviously couldn't stop and give her a lesson so am referencing you and Lindsay for her resources. Having the two of you as teachers will be a fabulous start on her watercolor journey. Glad you liked my reference to Elizabeth, but truly Your Styles are very similar just different topics. I enjoy her watercolor work also. I'm looking forward to your spinning videos so I can (finally) spin my own wool for my knitting.

I recently bought a set and, to be frank, I cannot think of an excrement related adjective that isn't insulting excrement, since, unlike these brushes, can often be useful. While I wasn't expecting awesome brushes, especially compared to my higher quality brushes, I wasn't expecting them to be so bad. Even after very carefully removing the protective gum with warm lukewarm water and baby soap, they all shed hairs faster than my pet St Bernard in the Summer. They are, frankly, unusable. All of them, with the exception of the #4 shader (which basically has no hair anyway), are affected. A total waste of money
