People often get so uptight and serious about firearms. While I think it's important to be very serious regarding the safe-handing of weapons, guns are a heck of a lot of fun. I wanted this video to be lighthearted and remind people that guns can be a joyful thing. Just like they were for guys like Sammy Davis Jr.

Like I always say, if a product I want is made in the USA, then I always buy the USA version. The only time I buy a foreign-made product is when: a.) There are no US companies making the same thing. b.) The US version is _excessively_ more expensive. But anything that is made in the USA and has rational pricing, always gets preference from my wallet.

You can shoot slugs through a modified choke and I’ve done it with my Mossberg Maverick 88 pump action with no problems but I wouldn’t go any tighter than modified. Either way this was a funny video and I liked it. I like to have a Henry 12 gauge at some point and I would love to have one in 10 gauge.

I recently purchased a Henry single shot 410 shot gun to hunt squirrels with. I bought it from an on line gun broker, little did I know the firearm was sitting in a box since June 20, 2010 (the date listed on the ammunition check slip). The recoil pad is dry rotted on one side, so I contacted Henry. Their customer service reported back to me promptly - the company will send a new pad to my address. Thank you Henry! By the way, you forgot to mention Henry makes revolvers too.

Nice video! I've been waiting (and waiting!) for someone to do a comprehensive review of the Henry single. Thank you. I do have a question - How does one remove the barrel? Do you really have to knock out the hinge pin, or can you just snap off the forearm?
@LuthorvilleCA
@LuthorvilleCA 5 жыл бұрын
You are welcome. Thank you for watching. I knew this video was going to get a ton of views, because it is the first (and as of 12 September 2018, the only) video review of the Henry 12ga Single Shot. As for removing the barrel, yes, according to the manual, you have to tap out the hinge pin.
@DeanMk1
@DeanMk1 5 жыл бұрын
Unless its been removed, I did find one other review a few months ago, but this one is much more comprehensive. I can't believe they actually make you knock out the hinge pin in order to remove the barrel. That's a very old way to accomplish that on one of these guns. However, Henry Repeating Arms is about the history, so in a sense, it kinda goes with the mantra of the company. Anyway, thanks again. Will check out your other videos.

How are you aiming for long distance static shots like the steel target? I've only shot shotguns like that by pointing (e.g. clay pigeons). Thanks.
@LuthorvilleCA
@LuthorvilleCA 6 жыл бұрын
That's a great question. It's challenging to aim a gun without a rear sight, and it's kind of difficult to explain without a drawing, but... Imagine looking down the barrel, so you don't see the barrel at all, and you are sighting the entire bead, so it is dead center on the receiver. Does that make sense? So, you should see the ENTIRE front bead, but NONE of the barrel (elevation), and the bead should be centered left-to-right on the plane of the receiver (windage). Hope that explains it well.

Well, it was a review of the Henry, so I wasn't going to show the Ruger. My name appears in the opening credits, the end credits, and the description, on over 90 videos on this channel. Nevertheless, multiple people comment they don't know my name. Weird. Thanks for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

I'm pretty sure single shots aren't as heavily regulated in most European countries as repeating firearms. If Germany is hard on single shots, then it must be really bad.

I’m trying to decide if I should get this model or get the slug barrel option. I will primarily hunt deer. But I wouldn’t mind the option to hunt birds at some point. Can anybody tell me what is the difference between shooting slugs on the sparrow with a modified choke and shooting slugs on the rifled barrel? Will I still get good results if I choose this one and primarily shoot slugs?
@LuthorvilleCA
@LuthorvilleCA 7 ай бұрын
The slug barrel is rifled and doesn't accept chokes. So, this model will give you better accuracy with pellet-shells (because you can change the chokes) and the rifled-barrel model would give better accuracy with slugs.

How is the recoil on these? Im lookikg to buy one as my first 12 ga. I shot my 300WSM how could that compare?
@LuthorvilleCA
@LuthorvilleCA 3 жыл бұрын
I've never shot a .300 WSM, so I can't say. If you are comfortable with firearms, I wouldn't worry about 12ga recoil. Recoil is scary for inexperienced and first-time shooters. But an experienced 12 year old can shoot a 12ga. As long as you seat the gun properly, and move to absorb the recoil instead of trying to fight it, you'll be fine.

Best Looking Single shot shotty,ive ever seen and thats coming from a lifelong Single shot lover...I started with a single shot iver johnson,,44 years ago,that belonged to my grandfather and just recently,reacquired the very same gun...I think i can clear up some confusion for ya...Its not advised,to shoot slugs from a screw in choke...A fixed choke,is a different matter,,providing it is a Foster slug,,More commonly and improperly called a rifled slug..
@LuthorvilleCA
@LuthorvilleCA 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. Yes, it's a very aesthetically pleasing gun. As for the choke matter, I was simply showing what the manual says, and as you can see from the video, the manual clearly contradicts itself on two different pages.
@TightwadTodd
@TightwadTodd 6 жыл бұрын
I agree,that it seems contradictory,,but only due to them not fully wording it properly ..As you stated,,not to shoot without a choke in place on a gun,that is fitted with screw in chokes,,as it would damage the threads,but also,it is not recommended,to shoot slugs through a screw in choke as it may not handle the pressure of the load..It can be done,as long as you dont feed it a steady diet of such..They are protecting themselves and their warranty by stating it as such..Since it is fitted with Screw in chokes,that is what they are addressing.....

I e-mailed Henry about pages 10 and 16 of the user manual. Henry customer service wrote me back promptly and clarified, "Slugs may be used in our shotguns with the proper choke. For slug use in our shotguns, we recommend using a choke no tighter than Improved Cylinder." In my words, the page 10 warning means not to shoot slugs with a muzzle too tightly choked/constricted, and the page 16 warning means what it says: don't fire any load without a choke tube in place and the threads exposed. Makes sense. (Great video, entertaining and informative! I'm looking for one of these Henrys.)
