I picked up two of these when they were on for $99. The most common issues guys were reporting on CGN are the buttstock loosening off where it attaches to the receiver and the forend coming off during firing. The first problem is fixed by removing the recoil pad, taking out the long bolt, replace an equal thickness of washers with a lock washer and Loctite the threads. The second problem is fixed by applying Loctite to the three screws of the takedown latch and putting a few strips of hockey tape under the barrel to shim it up tight.

This is one area where Canada has us beat. I don't understand the logic behind making anything below 18 inch barrel illegal here in the States. Is a short barrel shotgun more deadly than say a Glock 9mm with an extended mag? Not really !
@captsomeguy1
@captsomeguy1 8 жыл бұрын
+nodresiak It still needs an overall length of 26 inches. So even though you can have a 6.5 inch barrel, the rest of the shotgun including the barrel needs to be 19.5 inches. Doesn't the States have the serbu super shorty?

+captsomeguy1 IIRC the serbu shorty is still held under the same classification as any other shotgun and is classified as a short-barreled shotgun. So you'd need to go through the entire background check+tax stamp headache with the BATFE in addition to living in a state that doesn't directly limit such a weapon with its local laws (for an easy example, here in California, it doesn't matter what federal hoops we jump through, the state laws themselves prohibit damn near anything so even with a full background check, tax stamp, and federal approval, we'd still be in violation of the law). I'm no lawyer though, so I could be mistaken to some degree, that's just my knowledge up to this point.

captsomeguy1 This is one of the main reasons Americans are so pissed off this election season. We have to deal with stupid shit like laws that make a short barreled single shot shotgun hard to get but a guy can go out and buy a Glock 19 and a 30 round magazine with ten minutes of paperwork and no fees. I don't know about you but I fear 30 rounds of 9mm more than a single shotgun blast. Then there is the war on the middle class that Obamacare has ushered in. The average American is paying at least double what we used to in health insurance premiums and we now have deductibles that are twice as high. All this is to pay for healthcare for trailer park and ghetto losers who don't want to work. I really hate the Republican and Democratic parties right now. Whether it is Hillary or Donald we all get screwed in November elections. A choice between two amoral assholes.

That reminds me of an H&R shotgun, but not as tightly spec'd. I have a single shot, cut off to 18 1/4 inches at the barrel (would go shorter, but have to please the ole ATF) and re-staked the bead sight. The bead sight was a whimsical move, but it makes it look "factory". Great snake gun for the woods. I gave $40.00 for it in less than prime condition, refinished it myself, and have been offered WAY more than what I have in it. Everyone ought to have one or two.

I bought one of the long barrel 16 gauge ones. I put 14 rounds through it and the stock broke. I taped it up then the cross bolt safety came out. Then when I went to cock it again, then the hammer made one extra click too many and went slack. This was my first bad experience with any Chinese made firearm, and I'm glad I didn't spend more than 100 dollars on it. It's a wallhanger now, and I learned my lesson about sub-$200 Chinese guns. I hear the Turkish shotguns are of good quality for the price, so when I have the spare money I will likely buy one of the Turkish single shots with interchangeable chokes, and ejectors and such. All in all I'm glad yours did fine and you're having fun but this gun for me is a headache and an $80 decoration.

Turkish firearms are good and we reasonable prices, very reasonable prices, but you got to be very careful while picking one, I advise with two Turkish brands, either "ATTA" or "Stevens", or you can go for Russian made rifles, very strong and durable material and a very good quality for a very reasonable price. I myself own a 0.410 cal over under Stevens shotgun, and a 12 gauge single shot "bikal" 12*76, Russian made, for like 150$, and trust me, I do hunt hoags with it, and I use slug shots. trust me when I tell you, very durable material, but it kicks like a mule.

Brownells sold some shotgun front sight ramps for cheap that you could solder to the end of the barrel and then add a Meprolight tritium front sight. Might have to compensate a bit for elevation but you won't shoot off the front sight especially with a little Locktite added to the screw base of the front sight.

You can tighten it up by shimming the hook at the swing point then if needed do some fine file work on the barrel end to reset, so it swings shut tight to the body. this seems hard to do but if you take your time and pay close attention to the details of the work it goes very smooth and very easy. Just take your time and keep trying to close it after taking a few thousandth at a time off.

Cool shotgun. Not legal in the U.S., at least not without paying the NFA $200 for a special permit. Back when I was 16 (40 years ago) I had an Ithaca single shot 12 gauge that I cut the barrel off on, about the same length as yours. Where I lived at the time you could get away with it, as everybody was doing the same thing, hunting without a license, out of season, jacklighting deer, even making homemade whiskey.

The Hunting Gear Guy But a handgun would be considered highly restricted, correct? It's insane how these things are legislated on. I would have to go through several months of waiting, pay a $300 tax, and get law enforcement approval, just to be given permission to buy one of these. But I can drive down the road and buy a Glock 17, a AK-47 with a 75 round drum magazine and 5,000 rounds of ammo, and be out the door with it in 15 minutes.

Hans S. In the usa the shipping of firearms to your door was banned in 1968 with the 68 GCA, mail ordering of non nfa items (like at rifles) was very common, i think even the sears catalog stocked lots of guns. Although with a C&R you can get C&R guns that are non nfa shipped to your door. Of course you can also get 80% receivers shipped and finish them at home.

Allisson Harris no worries! I have the Dominion Arms Outlaw, which is a side by side with barrels just as short. No rattling or figment issues after several boxes of 3" turkey loads. Not something that I would choose as a first pick for hunting, but crazy fun to shoot, and easy to pack along when canoe camping, or in winter when pulling a pulk or sled. 12ga flares and bear bangers launch very well from it. Certainly capable if you find yourself in a needful situation and the extra shot/barrel is nice to have.

+Hans “Hanzy4200” S. I mean that's true, but I thought the post was asking about a 40mm, comparing the break barrel breech loaded action of this weapon to that of the M79. +MyNameIsJeff Which still, while they're similar to a degree, and anything can be done with enough smarts/money/desire, it wouldn't really be anywhere near practical to try and engineer this kind of firearm to fire a 40mm. You'd basically have to rebuild the whole thing all over again if that was your goal. Like the barrel, the receiver, the firing mechanism, everything would have to be replaced. you maybe, MAYBE could reuse the wood furniture. It just wouldn't be worth it, if that was your idea. Also, legality on that kind of thing varies pretty wildly based on where you are (up to this point, this video seems to have drawn equal parts Canadian and US viewership, so even between just those two countries, the legality of launched grenades is just... worlds apart. If you are a US individual, you also need to worry about local laws) Suffice to say that from a US perspective, yes there are ways to get a 40mm launcher and there are ways to get ammunition* for it, but that they are tenuous as all hell and all involve the BATFE, and for the most part are nowhere near worth the trouble unless you've got a virtually mortal need to shoot off a 40mm. At the time of writing, I know that there are niche markets for leisure 40mm shooting, and I know that the ammunition of choice was the biodegradable chalk training round. I also know that the ATF recently added 40mm chalk rounds and 40mm tracer rounds to their definition of prohibited ammunition, so.... If you're really, and I mean very interested in shooting a 40mm there are 3 steps: 1) have a shitload of money 2) hire a lawyer who specializes in this kind of thing 3) be prepared to fail.

Yes, short-barreled shotguns have a certain cool factor, but they really don't have any good points except for concealability. The barrel length does not effect pattern spread. (see Remington website) You get more muzzle blast and less velocity. 18.5" is plenty short enough and you can get a Mosserg Maverick for around $200 on sale. No tax stamp needed.

Has actual ejector not just extractor, has no wiggle, breaks down very much the same way except it is one screw that doubles as a sling mount and is hand tightened not a flimsy hinge, and it also has sights that haven't flown off after a lot of shooting. If your going for cheap go Brazilian not Chinese firearms. Older more expensive Chinese firearms are probably fine, my sks is Chinese and it functions great. FeldwebelWolfenstool Yes I shoot my Mossberg with a pistol grip. I wouldn't use a 13" barreled shotgun hunting, and I wouldn't use my Mossberg hunting either. The point of this shotgun is lack of size, hence the "backpacker" title, it's made to be non-cumbersome and serve as bear defense. So you wouldn't be hunting with it and most likely wouldn't shoot it very often other than getting familiar with it and if you ran across a bear. So a pistol grip would be a plus for me

Does anyone make a legal shotgun pistol, 12 gauge to shoot flares. A plastic flare pistol only shoots them about 100 feet high. When I shoot them from my shotgun, they go up there 10 times higher. I could also load some light loads of #8 shot for snakes, that wouldn't break my wrist. I don't want to keep an expensive gun on a boat especially in salt water.

$100.00 or not, it should at least have an extractor that works.
@garethh6962
@garethh6962 8 жыл бұрын
It does work not all shotguns send shells out flying into the air, I prefer this type of extractor for reloading purposes and your not chasing about after empty cartridges the extractor works fine...
@reignick1133
@reignick1133 8 жыл бұрын
You're thinking of a shell ejector , those as a rule generally only come on much more expensive sporting break action shotguns . Most cheaper single shots really only come with a much simpler to manufacture ( and surprisingly more robust) extractor assembly .

did not mention barrel length, (18") or over all length,(26") to be legal. Had bought a Spesco (?) 12 ga. back in the 70's at a pawn shop for $39.00 , and did the same thing. After bout 300 +- rounds still tight. Great snake firearm, or home protection, but don't know bout bear. 30 years later inherited my aunt's 16 ga. Spesco. Cool video. P.S. Hoppe's #9.

Actually, you can own a shotgun with as short as a 8.5 inch barrel (must be manufactured that length) as with the dominion arms Grizzly (at least in Canada you can, its a loop hole of sorts

The lock looks strong enough, maybe this thing could be fitted with a barrel insert holding a centerfire round, something like a .357 Magnum, a .44 Magnum or even a 30-30 Winchester? I wouldn't own or fire such animal, mind you, bit... Regards

I like the idea, but the quality is not acceptable to me. But that is pretty much standard for anything from China. I like my guns to be better quality. It may be $100 in Canada, but it's an SBS in the U.S. so it's actually $300. And I actually prefer an 18.5" barrel. I don't see a barrel that short being any good except for short range defense, and you only get one shot.

So you dont expect it to be very good, very smooth, very well finished very tight. You expect it to be a little wricketty , the sight to fall out and to be a little shady. AAAAAND you dont expect it to blow up in your face? I have held these things and they are total crap. The fact that you can buy this at all is amazing Personally I feel this thing should not be approved for sale in Canada. What I expect from this firearm is they will blow apart before they wear out.

A shotgun with TWO barrels wouldn't take up significantly more room in your backpack, and neither would barrels as long as the stock, and you could actually hit something at a useful distance. PLUS, if you had it out and say a bear were to attack you, that extra shot would be nice, wouldn't it?
