Hi babe ✨ when a silicone has PEG at the end, it means it’s water soluble ! So it is a silicone, but it will simply rinse out when you shower. You don’t need sulfates to remove it ! so it’s not technically * CGM friendly, but if it works for your hair, I’d still use it. The CGM can be altered person to person in my opinion 💕

FYI to anybody throwing away empties or products they dont want anymore... PLEASE RECYCLE! Origins has a really great program where you can bring all of your skincare or beauty containers (no matter what the brand) to their counter or store and they will take it and recycle it for you! They also give you samples as incentives, so please just save the empties and bring them to your local origins counter or store

Yes, the peg-dimethicone is a wAter soluble silicone that doesn’t build up on the hair, weigh it down or cause frizz. So products like this are more or less a preference for us curly girls. I use some peg-dimethicone & my hair likes it as long as I apply it while my hair is still squishy wet. If it’s just damp my hair will def frizz some. The CGM itself doesn’t use any silicones I don’t think but I say continue to try the Ouidad define & shine gel & any other peg-dimethicone products bcz they are water soluble & see if your hair actually likes it. That’s the REAL test. 😊 Also, the Manes by Mel channel has the best information for curly hair I’ve seen. She’s super knowledgeable about products & she’s a professional. Check her out.

Kathleen you can still use silicone even if you’re doing the curly girl method. I don’t like to strictly follow the CGM bc it’s too many rules and restricting sometimes but I use it as a guide instead and then figure out what works for me. Sulfates are also not the end all to your hair, you should use them to deep cleanse every now and then to prevent product build up. I find sometimes with the CGM the scalp ends up with a lot of buildup which leads to dandruff and inflammation, but that’s just my experience! Other curly girls on KZbin have talked about it too :) good luck on your journey

It depends really! If you use silicones you have to use harsh sulfates to get them out and that in itself is not following the CGM. You can deep cleanse/clarify in 'approved' ways by not using things such as SLS, which it appears is what she is trying to avoid. CGM definitely isn't for everyone though!

I love the Tatcha The Essence. I've seen such a difference with my skin it's like I got a procedure. My daughter tried it for a really stubborn dry patch on her forehead and The Essence took care of it. Amazing stuff. Expensive but for me, worth it.

Curly girl here 😉 I have long, fine, 3b hair, and I highly recommend watching more videos from Manes by Mel!!!! She is a curl specialist with very curly hair so she is really thorough and shows the difference of products on her own hair. She kinda "debunks" some of the strict CGM rules and explains why it isn't necessary to be afraid of certain products in a video specificallyabout the CGM. She really emphasizes why different people use different things for their hair because not all curls are the same! I tried the CGM and just wasn't getting the results I knew I could get, and I've learned sooo much from her videos and have been able to completely change my routine to get the best curls I've ever had. I figured out what products my hair responds best to which has included some "off limits" products. So do not get rid of your olaplex (or fav products) just yet, olaplex is used by basically every stylist and for good reason haha. Also BIGGEST recommendation I can provide is getting a Denman brush! I get compliments daily since using it and people that have known me for years have recognized how defined my curls have become. Sorry about the rant but I love seeing curly hair getting all the love it deserves 😂

Yes!!! Manes by Mell is the best! I’m actually allergic to most sulfates, but I use a shampoo w/ sulfates once a month to get rid of buildup since hair oils weigh my hair down waaaaay more than silicones. But Mell has such great content and I think more curly girls need to check her out instead of a lot of the girls strictly following the cgm!

I don’t follow the CGM very strictly, but have been a little put off in a couple of Mel’s videos when she says something to the effect of “why would hair care brands make products that aren’t good for your hair, so these must be okay”. Just not scientific at all. Of course all sorts of brands make all sorts of products that aren’t in the customers’ best interest! It’s naive to assume otherwise.

PEGs stand for Polyethylene glycols, which basically help dissolve oils. When used in silicones, they are meant to help with frizz and moisture in your hair. When you shower the silicones will rinse out because they're water-soluble. The thing with these is that you don't have to necessarily "avoid at all costs!!", meaning if they work for you you can keep using them. However, research is still being done because they are speculated t be carcinogenic (meaning they cause cancer). Again, this is JUST a speculation, and more research is being done. Overall, if it helps with your hair, don't be afraid of them! Love you! (I'm a university BSc. student)

Hey Kathleen! I'm a curly/wavy gal. If you'd like, give WEN mousse a try. Go for the core formulas. Stay away from the seasonals and 613...they contain true cones that you are wanting to avoid. The cores only contain the water soluble PEGs. No alcohol, no frizz, no crunchiness. I've been using it for years when I choose to style my hair in its natural state. Buy from QVC for the best price. The double extend beauty tubes mascara from L’Oréal!! It was Kandee Johnson’s OG for yearssss and therefore became my OG! I didn’t like the Gigi one as much as the double extend, please try it if you haven’t 🥺 kilythanksbye Also LOVE you using curly girl hair products! I’m a licensed cosmo, not a scientist by any means, but I have done classes with ouidad and the way they explained it is that the dimethicone they use is broken down enough to be safe and since it’s just that one type they use, they claim to still be completely curly girl friendly. I'm on my CG journey too! A helpful tool you can look up is curls bot. its a website you can paste the ingredients lists of your products in (just find them on ulta or sephora) and it tells you if there's any red flags in it. Really helps me since some of the to be avoided ingredients can be called different things or have different variations that are actually okay. Looking great!

Hi Kathleen! I’m the biggest fan ever. Also, I’m a chemist! PEG is a polymer chain (each number is how many repeat units on it). Polymers have different functionalities. This one makes the dimethicone water soluble because it’s hydrophilic! That’s means it likes water. Hope that helps 😘
