I don't know if you're watching HBO's The Gilded Age, but in it there's a lawyer, Tom, who is apparently smitten with a broke aristocrat, Marian. He seems unconcerned with her lack of wealth, and wants to marry her. My (baseless) theory is he's tending to another estate that is about to end due to failure of issue (male issue, if entails are allowed in NY). He also knows the resulting reversion will transfer the estate to a line of descent in which Marian is due to inherit. It would be interesting if the show took this turn
