Professional Bodyshops WORST Nightmare! Can we fix it? 1953 Chevy Kustom

Today I finish tig welding the roof on our chopped 1953 Chevy Chicken Truck. I end up warping the roof beyond recognition and then attempt to fix it using cheap hand tools and a shrinking disk.

Grew up in a body shop. My dad was an old school body man. Did it with a torch and a wet rag. Didn't have shrinking discs. I'd run the torch and he would tell me where and how much. He also did the finishing with lead. Bondo was not available at the time. It's great to see someone use a lot of the old school techniques. You're not a hack, just some one that learns by experience. Thanks for the great video.

Retired Ontario shop teacher here. I admire your patience and competency in the "black art" of metalwork, but when you started running around imitating metal molecules, you earned my Sub. I always found physical comedy to be a terrific supplement to the concept or technique being taught, and the kids never forget it. Well done! Looking forward to more good training videos so I can muster up the courage to tackle a similar project.

I have to say that explanation of heating and quenching on a molecular level really got my interest! I never really understood molecules until you explained it that way. In fact, I have to admit I had a lot of trouble believing in molecules at all. After actually seeing it for the first time, I feel like some kind of thermonuclear engineer on steroids. I'm ready to tackle a project in the near future! During your explanation of panel tasting, I came to think that there should be some way to get your cats involved. Like maybe a cat scan or something. If you had one of them Labrador Retriever dogs, you could have it do some lab work along with the cat scans and really analyze the metallurgical tendencies of the finished or refinished product. Anyways, thanks again for a wonderful video full of inspirational advice and demonstrations.

Hey Kyle you must be pretty good at this bodywork thing cause you did a good job of messing that roof up. I had a good friend who was a body man instructor that would say a good body tech can make a job look good, but an exceptional body tech can make a mistake and be able to fix it and nobody else would never know. You are that body tech. Love your videos and the human acting of what the reaction is that is classic comedy gold and give the cats extra head rubs for their contribution in the videos. Later

I love watching folk dancing from around the world. Does the Carter Garage dance traditionally need leather welding gloves? And is one usually held in the hand wearing a glove? It is not dis-similar to the Australian hammer dance where one hand is struck with the hammer, usually accompanied by loud singing of various profanities.
