For anyone who decides to do that "Hand Soap" thing and wants to sell them please remember that those types of cleaning gloves are made with latex and there are people who are very allergic to latex so if you use it and want to sell it you need to let everyone know you used latex as the mold. I am allergic to latex and if I touch something that had been made with or for some reason had been around latex for some reason I get a very horrible allergic reaction. I just thought I would put this here because not many people realize or think about this type of allergy.

The glove was puffing up for two reasons: 1. As the glove was getting filled with the soap, it had to expand in the container pushing the air outside the glove but trapped in the container upward; 2. The heat from the melt and pour was heating up the surrounding trapped air and causing it to expand. Also the T-handshape is appropriate for a handsoap! Since handsoaps usually go in the bathroom (T-handshape is used in the ASL sign for "bathroom")

They say the Ivory soap has to be as new, and fresh, as you can. Old Ivory soap that has set around, won't expand. The wrapper needs to be wet and sticky to the bar. Not dry and separated.
@OrigamiMarie3 жыл бұрын
Oh that makes sense for a few reasons. Microwaves mostly act upon water molecules, and lots of other kinds of molecules mostly ignore them. Also I think this effect is based on water turning into steam in the tiny air bubbles within the soap, expanding them, and then escaping. For both of these reasons, if you use soap that is already dry, it won't have any water to do the work.
@JenniferThorson3 жыл бұрын
The Ivory soap works because Ivory has lots of tiny air bubbles. It's the same reason why Ivory floats. When the air bubbles in the soap heat up they expand.

That'd be fascinating to see the design process for! I'm guessing the raised Braille bumps would have to be created using round embeds on the surface of a nonfrosted soap bar...? For someone with visual impairment, I imagine the fragrance would be of even more interest too. (Unless, like me, you are drastically allergic to most fragrancing products??) I'd be really interested to hear a little about how you find the experience of watching Katie's videos with just the audio component? Her content generally does seem really good at having anything in any onscreen instructional text repeated verbally (such as colorant names etc). Although I'm guessing a lot of Caleb the editor's great visual jokes might escape, alas. Her spoken descriptions of finished products are usually detailed enough to get a reasonable idea of what the final bars look like too, which wouldn't always be the case with every KZbin creative I've encountered...?

With the ivory soap, I think that the people getting more "cloud like" results are probably getting the soap wet first. The addition of water would certainly alter the reaction, and it would make sense that it would increase it. The entire reason the ivory soap thing works at all is that ivory soap is filled with little air pockets. When you heat the bar in the microwave the ambient moisture in those pockets gets heated into steam and forces out this sort of cascade of dry soap foam. If you were to get the bar of soap wet, some of those pockets would become filled with water, it would be like adding fuel for a bigger reaction.

I just have to say this.. you are so cheerful, happy, talented and absolutely beautiful inside and out.. you remind me of my daughter. And I just love to see others that have, well, a zest for life that brings so much joy to others. May you and your family be blessed abundantly in all you do.

When I watched Safyia do these in videos and in the stream I just kept thinking," I want Katie to try these. A person who makes soap has to be able to make these work." That soap hand is one of the most cursed things on the internet. It haunts my nightmares.

Congrats. I think I’ve been watching you all 10 years off and on. Like teenager in your parents house. I love it!!!

That sneeze reminded me of the time you were making soap with Lily. Remember your comment, good thing we're not selling these!

For the cinnamon soap (not that I'll ever try it) but could you use a colour stabilizer with the fragrance and be ok?

With the ivory soap thing, at my school we heated it for like 5 minutes and it worked really well.
