I totally agree that it looks suspiciously like a jump cut to a real orange. I can't imagine with how much and the color they put in that it'd look so real... which brings me to my suggestion for a video or even a new series: instead of just showing the hacks and reacting, because you're already so good about telling us why it would or wouldn't work, why not do it their way, show the result, then show us how to do it the right way?
@lacytaylor15012 жыл бұрын
It's just them unmolding the original orange because someone in another comment mentioned they didn't show them removing the orange from the mold, just separating the orange from the edges of the mold. They just slapped the end of the mold prep where the soap unmolding should be.

Magnetic soap holders are actually a thing and I love them! But of course it doesn't involve glue, just a little magnetic disc that you push into your soap and the magnetic holder sticks to the wall. It keeps my soap a lot more dry and less slimy than soap dishes do.

It's definitely a real fruit!!!! My reasoning is that as general rule of thumb you can assume a hack is shady when it 1) looks too good to be true, 2) has cuts in the vid before the reveal, and 3) 9:01 I mean look you can see parts of the white peel on the outside bit of the fruit where it supposedly should just have been orange soap when she turns the mold
@AppleStrawberryLove2 жыл бұрын
Team orange. The "soap"'s pith thickens in the perfect areas where it typically wouldn't if you were spinning the soap around the mold. It's thickest at the highest point. Normally, if you have a scallop like that, the liquid will pool in the lowest point of the curve. The only way you might be able to combat that would be to spin it constantly at a higher speed that they did so that the centripetal force pulls the soap inward enough to coat the inner parts more. But I suspect you'd be more likely to get it drying midair rather than onto the segments. That said: I think the concept could work, just not exactly so perfectly or in the way they showed. Plus, the jumpcut makes it perfect for switching it back out for a real orange for the final reveal. These viral hack/DIY channels do that all the time.

My husband and I made melt-and-pour soap for Halloween last year. We were aiming for red, orange, and yellow to keep with the fire theme of the rest of our Halloween videos, but the colorants we used were really weak, and it came out Caucasian flesh colored. It's a real orange! When they start unmolding, it has a weird appearance to the top, then all of a sudden, it has that perfect little segmented hole in the middle. It's just a brief, brief moment, but that's all they need for the sleight of hand. Watch closely at the 9:02 mark.

Team soap. That orange soap is using a trick that's pretty common when making PVC food models. It works, they used more soap than they needed to keep it liquid longer as they coated the inside, then dumped out the excess. The temperature difference between the mold and the soap immediately hardens a small amount of it, leaving you with a thin, semi-transparent white soap shell. Add in the orange soap, unmold, and you have a realistic pith on the outside.
@lacytaylor15012 жыл бұрын
That maybe the proper trick for making it, but I feel like in reality they are just using the footage of them unmolding the orange to make the mold. They cut it off after they separate the orange and the edges of the mold, then slapped the part of them popping out the orange where the soap removal should be.
@Ellulellu2 жыл бұрын
I think it's soap but they made a new one and put the white stuff on after unmolding🤔

Yeah, and if they'd shown it happening that way here, I'd buy it. :) Perhaps someone was familiar with the trick and took a shortcut to get what they assumed would be the same result?
@MorganChaos2 жыл бұрын
but why would it collect perfectly in the cracks of the orange, which are actually peaks in the mold? to get this effect you would want to coat it (pretty thickly) with orange soap and then fill with white. coating with white first is gonna have the white soap collected in the wrong places.

Definitely an orange. I will say, my grandparent’s house had matching countertop faucet set that had an extra “spicket” looking soap arm, not dish. It had a magnet in the end and I can’t remember if you had to buy special soap for it or if they sold you a metal adapter that you’d install in the bar of soap yourself. Kinda looked like the pop cap, but the pointed part was inside the soap bar. Worked the same though, magnetized to the underside of the “spicket” arm, just next to the sink instead of the shower. I thought it was very cool as a kid. 😄

I feel like the orange wouldn't hold up to the mold making process but... in theory it would work. The white melt and pour is just enough colorant to make it semi-opaque instead of transparent. Put in enough to roll around the mold then immediately set the mold so the majority drains out leaving just small bits inside, followed by pouring in your orange.
