It actually was, It was like being iside your head, and that helps to think before shooting, to give a meaning to single photo, for advertising, stock etc, thanks a lot again!

Love this! I'm the team photographer here in St. Louis. Myself and our videographers always joke that if they ever mic'd us up, it'd just be us cursing about missing focus or a sideline ref running in front of our shots. Completely unusable😭 Great stuff as always Paul!

Haha. I had to edit out most of that stuff. Good luck against KC, let me know if you travel up to New England next year!

Thanks for the real life video. As the former Sporting KC team photographer that video is 100% accurate of what I'm thinking during the game. I especially love that you use the R5 and 1Dx II the same way I do - kind of scary actually. My 1Dx II is just so natural and after cropping/editing the pics are identical to the R5. The only thing different I do is I moved to my 300 from the 400 because when I looked back at all of my pics that sold, the vast majority were in the closest 1/3 of the field and in the box. With the R5 I can still crop down for full field shots.

Thanks for watching and commenting! Good idea with the 300mm. I'd have to look back and see what actually sells for me.

Thanks for taking the time to put this together! Very helpful…if you have opportunity in the future I’d love to hear your strategy for covering Corner kicks, free kicks and penalties.
@Paul_Rutherford

Glad it helps! I'll keep that in mind to expand on in the future. But in general it depends a little on the score of the game and who is taking the corner, free kick, penalty. But in general for corners I'll prefocus on the goalie then try and switch to the person I think will head the ball. For free kicks and penalties it depends on the position I'm in as well. A lot of times getting the person kicking isn't a necessarily a great photo, but a save would be. So I'll focus on the goalie to try and get the save, but then switch to the shooter if I know it ended up a goal to get the celebration. An exception would be if the player kicking is super famous, Messi, or I need a photo of them kicking the ball. Hope that helps!

Haha. It is very nice they give us chairs to use. I have a step stool as well for other sports in case there isn't anything to sit on. That is not as comfortable with my long legs.

Hey, I am an event photographer here in the Caribbean.. I haven't yet owned my first camera as yet but I hopefully will soon be investing in my first camera. I have worked with Canon & Nikon before haven't worked with any other's as yet.. Do you have any advice or so for me on what may be the best/ most suitable camera for me? I also want to be able to be able to be Wide & also be able to Zoom.. So something like a bridge camera with inter-changeable lens?

I have another video about getting credentials that should be helpful! But the main gist is to shoot as much as you can, make a portfolio, network with other local photographers, and try to get in with some local blogs/media sights to start out.

It is very confusing. Instead of me writing a bunch of text I suggest watching my other video about getting credentials to games. Should be helpful. No photography degree necessary. My degree is in economics. haha

Thanks! I am shooting in Jpeg. When shooting for a wire service they want small fast to deliver files. But I generally set up my white balance before the game.

Paul, as a person who hasn't gotten onto the field on the professional level just yet. What's the etiquette on moving spots or starting at a spot on the field for shooting? Lets say an opportunity was awarded to me, this would be too intimidating of a question to ask in a press/media room. Where does one learn this sports photography etiquette if not on a professional level yet?
@Paul_Rutherford
@Paul_Rutherford 2 ай бұрын
Great question. In terms of shooting locations it really depends on the sport and venue. Some stadiums in the MLB allow you to go wherever as long as you aren't in the fans way and others have strict shooting positions. If it is your first time at a venue I suggest asking other photographers or a team staff member if they are available. Other photographers will be happy to let you know whats going on if you tell them its your first time there and are polite!
