If it were my VERY first violin and I was just learning, absolutely! I liked the way it sounded for a beginner violin. But the soundpost not being installed would be off-putting. The bridge can be figured out through googling or included instructions, but that soundpost...nope! It is a very affordable price for a starter set, because as a beginner, you might find out that violin isn't for you.
@violinlounge
@violinlounge 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, exactly right! The soundpost is always a problem when sending violins internationally, even (and certainly) with the more expensive violins. It's good to dip your toe in the water for violin playing. On the other hand people might be scared off a bit.

Nice demo! I would definitely get a Glarry violin. I used to have a violin bought from professional violin shop which cost $250 in 1970 (about $2000 in inflation adjusted dollars). It was terrible. Glarry violin sounds a lot better than my $2000 violin that I used for 12 years.

I purchased a Celio violin set 18 months ago for about $120US. The violin is playable for a beginner to novice but the bows were junk. Until I purchased a carbon bow I could not make serious progress. I will be purchasing a better violin in the fall but I did find the Celio a good brand for me to test my true interest in playing the violin.

I believe my violin is somewhat better than the $67 violin. I do think sets like the $67 one you reviewed does help a person who is curious and not sure. Because one thing I was concern about when I first started wanting to play the violin was if I would be able to hold a violin. Would my neck be able to handle it. Would my fingers be reach for notes. Will I get bored of it right away and never play it. I didn't want to pay a lot of money and just have the violin be put away. I told myself that if after good amount of time I could always upgrade. Thanks for the review.

Even a 200/300 $ violin kit have some problems with the adjustment... on my first violin, the bridge, the tailpiece and the fingerboard were way too high. I suggest to go check your first violin in a luthier, they usually have some used violins. I really really suggest to go check for a used violin in a physical store instead of buying it online. The other option is to have one in rent. After, you can check to buy one a little bit more expansive, now that you know that you want to continue to play.

As you allude, the bridge needs to shaped first. The violin is not ready to play out of the box! Both string width at nut (16mm) and bridge (33mm) must be measured G to E. Bridge feet must be shaped to fit violin body. Then string height, make the G 5.5mm and the E 3.5mm at end of fretboard by carving a curve on bridge (radius 43mm) so E is lower. Plan for 2-3 hours to do it decently.
@violinlounge
@violinlounge 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly, and those man hours can't be included in a cheap violin. Soon I will review a $ 29 violin and I have it upgraded as much as possible by a violin maker specialized in tone optimization. I'm curious what the results will be! The video is coming up soon on my channel.

I'm an Intermediate player and to be honest, the difference between the 67$ and the Antique one is like day and night! The 67$ sounds metallic while the Antique one sounds responsive, clear and warm. Oh and btw the bridge of the 67$ one is too high especially on the G string and the fingerboard I bet is not ebony at all because I see some discoloration, I guess they painted. Just my opinion though. But still even though how tight budget you are, if you really love violin and you wanted a good start as a beginner, you might consider buying a violin with a price of 400$+ and mostly like 90% of the violin below 300$ is poorly set up violin and you might having struggle to keep them in tune or some flaws in the product.

I would not recommend spending less than approximately $350-$400 minimum for a new student violin. Students should not have to struggle with poor violins which word badly. They already have enough struggles just trying to improve their playing. The violin should not work against them.

This video thumbnail doesn’t properly represent violins from China in general. The glary violin is a $69 violin and that in itself is a much lower quality Violin. However there are bench made violins from China that anyone buy from Fiddlershop that play just as well as any $15,000 Italian Violin. So I feel like it’s unfair to pit a glary Chinese violins in to German violins. There are German violins that play awfully as well. So I think it really just depends on researching the quality of the violin. Since China has a dig themselves out of such a terrible reputation they can’t ask for very high prices but they do have some phenomenal violins
@violinlounge
@violinlounge 3 жыл бұрын
You are totally right. There are also very good Chinese violins (and in the same price range they can surpass European countries), but on a daily basis SO many VSOs (violin shaped objects) are sold to disappointed players as well. I haven't see VSOs that much from Germany, France or Italy.
