Wyatt Rice is EXTREMELY under appreciated for how good he is.

Hi to all people considering replacing 2520 operational amplifiers for yours devices :) I own lot of op amps, and lot of Scott's as well. I have to say that after replacing my monitoring section in my studio, including mastering grade monitor controller that the stock 2520 are the best, which can be sad cos they quite expensive. Before that I thought that SL 2520 are better, but sadly they not, they missing 3D-ness comparing to original op amps. The low end in the stock ones are just huge and natural while in other ones that 3D-ness in the low end just doesn't exist. What is important to notice is that stock ones sounds natural thru all spectrum, other ones sadly not, just like using plugins(others) against hardware(api). I checked then on variety of situations and variety of sources, 550s, 560 , 312 preamps, 2500 compressors. The only application I found for using SL op amps was on recording guitars, and only because they sounding more mid range. So if you considering swap those in yours 2500 or in some other devices for 2 bus duties, just think twice cos you'll miss original API punch. To be honest this is sad, I thought that Scott's op amps are good or better as original, but... you know.... Hey Scott, if you reading this, make something like Api's, but better

The red dot was very pleasing, especially in the high end, whereas the others were more “sparkly.” Awesome shootout!

Awesome video, thanks for sharing. That Red Dot was noticeably more airy sounding than the other ones. I really like a 1731 though, and tend to use them in all of my DIY stuff.

Such a cool comparison video! While I don't really have a lot of experience with API gear to compare them to, I've got to say that I'm a big fan of the Scott Liebers red dots. I have a couple that I put into my Warm Audio preamps

What differences do you hear between the Red Dots and the stock op amps on the Warm pres? I'm going to buy one WA 412, and I would like to upgrade the op amps in the future. I have one 3124+, and I want to make the Warm as close as possible to an API.

@@j.6359 TL;DR: Not really sure anymore. Hard to definitively say at this point. When I first got them I did a comparison in my home studio. At the time those of us that were there thought they were more pleasing in the upper mid/top end content, and maybe more detailed. I had somebody else playing guitar, and we did fender cleans and acoustic guitars. I shot them out in a couple of the tonebeast 500 series preamps I had, but I got rid of those a while ago (probably around the time of this post) in favor of a wa12 mk2 and a couple more other preamps that I like better than the warm audio stuff (Heritage 73jr and Neve 511). They were fine preamps, they just took up too much real estate and I never really used the "clean" side. I never bothered swapping out the op amp in my wa12, so maybe that says something? After seeing your question today I thought it would be interesting to compare them...and, frankly, after playing around with it this morning I don't really hear a difference for what I was doing. I was playing a 2204 clone in dirty territory (low preamp, cranked master). I can still hear a difference in this demo and I would still say that I like the red dot the best, but in my home studio this morning with dirty guitars I couldn't really hear it in order to be able to give a current/firm opinion. So, I guess that is a big shrug from me. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I guess my unsolicited advice, fwiw, would be to just buy one and see. Worst case scenario you can resell it and take a small hit. Best case scenario you can just buy 3 more.

It seems to be, but I wonder how - Wyatt never pushed his vocal chord and those muscles in the way T did. T's is as a result of pushing his voice to places out of his range.
