Love hearing Skye talk about Carti even tho he does a lot. I've been thinking recently Carti embodies feeling over sound in music. Traditional structure and lyricism is meant to evoke strong feelings, but Carti cuts out the middle man and gets right to the baseline feelings and emotions

@everythingetc.7784 Bro Drake is literally a documented and well known incel and misogynist. He has aligned himself with XQC and Adin Ross and just Kick's culture in general. All these things and people are right wing cesspools. He doesn't have one progressive view, and whatever "progressiveness" you think he has (the things you listed for example), I bet bro doesn't even think of it in that manner.

@@unology1 Course it has, yeah. I should be more clear: Since the rap beef, high level conversations seem to have been more publicly placed at the fore overall. Now I'm having friends come up to me to talk about this sorta stuff, rather than me boring them all the time with these conversations!

I'll never stop listening to Ye because the music is so good. Unfortunately, he either never believed the things he wrote about or he's become a different person as he became more influential, powerful, and siloed. I'm not really sure which one is better. His evolution is more disappointing because he was beacon for so many young black kids, and it feels like he turned his back on us all.

A) Americans barely accept UK and Canada rap music B) even us of the diaspora who grew up abroad (US, Europe) are sometimes called white or European back home. C) we often conflate different Feelings. As a Nigerian, I can say that Ghaneens, Cameroonians, Haitians, Jamaicans, African-american, Afro-brazilans, etc sare all my siblings some closer than others. And like siblings, we fight all the time for serious and futile things but no matter what we're the same family.

This an important point. We do support everything we disagree with just be being human and breathing air or using the internet. That's why you should always realize you are living off borrowed time. This is the world, and we are all responsible for ourselves and the resources we use, and we can always try to be more conscious. Being alive should require a level of work and responsibility. Those who cant improve physically should focus on spiritual growth.

The last good top to bottom album by kanye for me was dark fantasy, and even that hasn’t aged well because of the content. Kanye once said he didn’t care about his legacy. His actions have certainly proved that. Give me the first three albums and I’m good at this point.

I love the old Kanye, College Dropout is 10/10, the next two are also masterpieces. Charismatic, but he hasn't been consumed by pride yet. I also love the new Kanye, TLOP, Ye and Kid See Ghosts are true masterpieces. He proved on them that he is indeed the God of rap, the Creator of new genres. And he also gives us a very insightful picture of his mental state. So yes, I love the new Kanye, but I don't love the post-Kanye: destroyed by divorce, radicalizing and finally changing with the help of hydrogen into a literal wreck of a man, drowning in porn addiction, who has lost touch with reality. He can't rap because he replaced his teeth with a fucking metal bar. Since Donda we have been observing the gradual decline of man. It is even sadder looking at the tone of Ye and KSG (I have various problems, but I am aware of them and I am becoming a better person). I miss Kanye.

What if, Drake did at some point reflect the culture (or at least a section of the culture), and the question we should be asking is, what does that say about the culture and society. It’s easy for me to correlate the ills of our society in the mid-2010’s, the growth of social media, and observe how a segment of the the society started to live online and blissfully or intentionally unaware of the real world. While at the same time a different section of society is using social media as a lens’s to communicate out to the world what is happening in the real world (BLM, Arab Spring, etc.). This way you can see how different artists would represent two distinct and unfortunately separated parts of society and culture. Therefore we end up with albums like IYRITL, Views, and More Life, along with, TPAB, Untitled Unmastered, and DAMN. Two side of society, Two sides of the culture Only one way forward.

I cant remember if it was on twitter or youtube and it sucks i cant remember, but i saw someone making the argument against GNX not being a 'full album' (and that something else was coming) because GNX didnt have a theme by saying the theme of the album was clearly "(G)angsters &(N) Christ(X)" . This idea has been implanted in my brain and i really think it makes so much sense, Godlyness is all over this album, and its roll out. The "Jesus Saves Gangsters Too" sign enforces this idea, obviously Reincarnated, he also directly calls himself 'the Black Noah'. A lot of aggressive, gangster features not from established artists, but from more independent, lesser known rappers who are more likely to still potentially be active because they havent been able to fully get away from that life yet. Obviously Kendrick hits this tone when appropriate also, I just think this really does feel like a theme that really ties the whole album up in a bow.

Like most artists/celebrities, his POV should always be in that! context and as someone with a documented history of SMI/severe mental illness! Toure his worldview is very much affected by his brain disorder! I think yall need to be more versed on mental illness! I'm not a Kanye apologist but CONTEXT is very important.

@@ShirleyTimplethe comment *does not* say *anywhere* that kanye should not be held accountable. it *does* say his mental illness shapes his worldview. that is *not* a lack of accountability or an apology. it *is context* for the behavior and actions. regarding hitler: same thing. that man was mentally ill like kanye. maybe a different diagnosis but *clearly* he and his mind were unwell. that does *not excuse* what he did. it is an influence and a contributing factor to his abominable being. the reading comprehension decline…that’s almost pathetic.

I will say, Prince put out a lot of bad music intentionally. I feel like I can call that music bad while being a fan of Prince's music. Similarly a lot of rappers in the 80/90s were making really bad music in the 00s-10s, to keep up with trends. We praise the last LL Cool J album but the one before that was straight trash

I'd say Drake is like Norman Rockwell. He serves as propaganda for modern life. He checks off all the aesthetics of success with none of the substance. He doesn't make art that challenges us, just paints a picture of a reality that doesn't exist.
@irishfox989 күн бұрын
I guess it's reality to a degree but purposely lacks context. It frames exactly what he wants to show without involving problems larger than himself. Any conflict revolves around himself so he doesn't have to speak on more decisive topics

32:19 Margaret Keane. She was the artist who painted the, "big eye," paintings. Huge commercial success, emotive, sterile, context-free, technically skilled but bland & lacking soul. Alternatively, Drake's music serves the same function as corporate art & the identity of the actual creator(s) is similarly unimportant. A facsimile of Warhol's factory process, wherein even the individuality of the creator is subsumed into anonymity.
