I could listen to Prof Noakes for days on end. Despite what he has been through for speaking up, he still has the drive to speak out. His book The Real Meal Revolution should be given on prescription to anyone diagnosed with metabolic syndrome and should be on the curriculum in all schools to prevent future generations from falling into the industry led trap our generation suffered.

All the great apes, it is my understanding, have recently been reclassified as omnivores - except gorillas. Gorillas, as Prof, Nokes says, are hindgut fermenters. Like most true herbivores, they eat their food more than once. Ruminants, like giraffes, cattle, sheep, goats, deer, etc bring their food back up, re-chew and re-swallow it. These animals spend a lot of time each day doing this. Other herbivores, including gorillas and rabbits, eat the food that has already gone all the way through the digestive tract. Yum! The more active and athletic apes, like chimps etc, hunt and eat meat. While the amount of time they spend eating the meat is much less than the amount of time they spend eating plants, the nutrient density of the meat (fat and protein) is so high that it provides a significant portion of their total nutritional intake.

Many so called herbivores will also eat meat given the chance. Deer, goats, panda bears have all been observed to eat meat.

I agree and love Tim Noakes. I have to mention the elephant in the room. This event was sponsored by feedlots...i.e. keeping animals like cows etc in unhealthy, un-natural and inhumane conditions waiting to be slaughtered. Wait, I am not vegan or vegetarian. BUT eating animals that are grass fed, from a farm, where a cow can express its cowness or a chicken can be a chicken, is more nutritious than eating feedlot meat. Even Tim mentioned eating food from a farm. A feedlot is not a farm.

Yes, I was born in 1952 and there were about 40 kids in my primary school classes and I only remember one chubby little girl in the whole school. There were none in my high school. When it comes to seeing people getting fat I think I was in my twenties when I first notieced people showing they were getting a little hippie, you know, t-shirts resting on the hips as they walked and I was disgusted.

@HariHari I don't know how old you are but in the time was at school there was no rationing and in the 60s I was living Australia. Pople didn't get fat anywhere in the world until the mid 70s when manufacturers started putting sugar into everything, inluding bread. Then it was too late for anyone.

The China study by T. Colin Campbell. Why did the Chinese live on a high carb diet with none of the Western diseases which Tim speaks about? Why do the Far Eastern block have no Western diseases until they eat Western foods? Also, does Tim believe that factory farming along with all the antibiotics and growth hormones is actually better for us and has no ill input to human health? Tim has done great work on insulin resistance and high carbs are bad. I agree with that. May be, as he says, if plants and carbs are bad for some, eating meat may be bad for some others. One thing for sure. It’s bad for the factory farmed animals.

Millions of animals are killed every year to raise grains, vegetables and fruits. Farmers don't want their crops to be eaten by other animals so they poison all those animals. Your soy and bread are responsible for the deaths of millions of animals. Also the agricultural fields results in habitat destruction for birds with the eradication of trees. Compared all those millions of lives with the life of 1 cow raised on pasture that could feed you for a whole year
