So I put out a debunk video centered on an absurd notion called "The Electric Universe". It pissed off a lot of people, such as a fellow named Ben Davidson, who I had never heard of, but that has a KZbin channel called "Suspicious0bservers" which talks about things sort of tangentially related to this topic. Without any provocation, he took it upon himself to slander me and threaten me by email, before making a ridiculous excuse for a response video countering my debunk. This is my response to his response, because I don't really appreciate being called a fraud, particularly when his response is full of abject nonsense as is his channel in general. Enjoy.
UPDATE: Since this video, I've taken it upon myself to dig a lot deeper and I found out precisely what a con man Ben is. Beyond his fraudulent cash grabs on Kickstarter, he is currently busy building a donor-funded apocalypse camp (literally), which makes him a cult leader. More information on his scams can be found in a more recent video which I highly recommend watching and sharing, since there is no telling what horrors will occur on that camp if it gets built: • SpaceWeatherNews (Susp...

I just unsubscribed from Suspicious Observers because of this video. Thank you Dave. I'm not proud to admit that as a non-scientist, I fell for the razzle -dazzle. I'm embarrassed that I watched his videos regularly for over a year. But I'm glad that someone is here to counter his content with critical thinking because for those of us not well versed in cosmology, his videos are an easy and shiny trap to fall into. I just subscribed to your channel as well, for good measure. Thanks again for the quality content.

I enjoy Ben's videos. There's a slice of value in there as he's calling attention to our sun's ability to nova recurrently while you'll never hear about that on MM. He does tend to remind me of the self-proclaimed expert chartists on Fintwit. They too tend to be highly opinionated, cocksure and yes, easily offended. Start a channel, get a few followers and watch your ego grow to new heights. There seems to be a ready crop of sycophants willing to fall in behind whoever yells the loudest. But that doesn't mean you can't learn something from them. "The fear of Jehovah is the beginning of wisdom" but that's quite rare so i'm willing to wade through the hubris to accumulate information and i can make my own mind up as the prophetic word trumps them all. Read 2 Peter 3 - the nova is coming...it's the perfect way to neutralize all the radioactive and chemical pollution on our planet...then we'll get to enjoy a "re-creation" Matt 19 28 JWlearnORG what u can, while u can as Jehovah is bringing this system down around us as i type. You will soon wake up to a new, horrible reality as we enter "a great tribulation" the world has never seen the likes of...run to Jehovah.

@@rosskstar WTF dude. "The Sun does not have enough mass to explode as a supernova. Instead, when it runs out of hydrogen in the core in approximately 5 billion years, core hydrogen fusion will stop and there will be nothing to prevent the core from contracting. The release of gravitational potential energy causes the luminosity of the star to increase, ending the main sequence phase and leading the star to expand over the next billion years: first into a subgiant, and then into a red giant. The heating due to gravitational contraction will also lead to hydrogen fusion in a shell just outside the core, where unfused hydrogen remains, contributing to the increased luminosity, which will eventually reach more than 1000 times its present luminosity. As a red giant, the Sun will grow so large that it will engulf Mercury, Venus, and probably Earth, reaching about 0.75AU. The Sun will spend around a billion years as a red-giant branch star and lose around a third of its mass." Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sun#Structure_and_fusion

@@autobotstarscream765 «warfare is the mother of most scientific discovery» No, no, NO. That's a terrible inaccurate myth. There are many reasons to see how that's completely false. 1st: war (and conflict in general) promotes secrecy, secrecy is a barrier to knowledge. Peace promotes sharing and collaboration, sharing and collaboration are fertilizers for knowledge. All culture and science build on top of collective knowledge. 2nd: research takes resources, in the form of funding, material access to equipment or materials, and human work. Resources are finite. During war, war related research is prioritized. Finite resources mean other kinds of research are underfunded. 3rd: war destroys human life, material resources, and create terrible conditions, under which people is more concerned about individual survival than about education and research. Try making progress under heavy bombings. And hope you or your notes survive long enough so that your progress isn't completely lost anyway. What actually happens, is that political interests prioritize R&D in subjects of immediate application to war. In time, some of that progress can be adapted to civil interest of other kinds. Later, people assume that somehow, progress was made thanks to war. The conclusion is absurd, and does not follow from the premise. If you prioritize R&D on fields of direct civil interest, you'll make as much progress in general, and you won't need to adapt the technology, so in the end it's a gain in efficiency.

Another good take down, Prof. Dave! I have a question about contracting the consensus. You often mention that dweebs dont have the requisite training to comment on specific things (Casey Luskin is a Geologist, not a Biologist, Ben Davidson is a lawyer, not an astrophysicist, etc) and you even mentioned that YOU are a chemist, not a physicist/biologist/etc. but that you focus on sharing the consensus of these fields, not challenging it or introducing new hypotheses. That makes sense, and we are all better off for your work (ive learned a LOT from your many serieses here! Thank you!!) But i guess my question is: Is there any room in the science community for challenges to consensus from "laypeople", as it were? Could a professional accountant (who just loves chemistry or something) be the guy who stumbled upon something crazy and game-changing while screwing around in his free time? Has the consensus ever been significantly shifted as a result of the findings of someone who DIDN'T have the requisite credentials to challenge the field? I have another question but imma do it in a separate comment so i have an excuse to tip you a couple more bucks. Thanks!!

I just came across this video, I know it’s two years old but I wanted to comment on it. About 11 years ago I began watching SuspiciousObserver videos about the sun. Ben was very different back then, his insane ego was not the one making the videos. The videos would present things about the sun and its activity and that was pretty much it. It was extremely interesting. I’ve always loved science especially cosmology but I am in no way educated in the field. Recently while watching a video about the sun on a channel called dutchsinse (first time looking at this channel. BTW, 10 years ago there was a rift between him and SuspiciousObservers similar to yours but Ben was the victim…now the victim has become the victimizer) and I realized I hadn’t seen it in at least eight years so I decided to check it out. Holy crap! I cannot believe how different the channel is and how belligerent Ben is. Even the way Ben looks is very hard and cold, not sure how else to describe it. I was not just disappointed but VERY disturbed by what his channel has become. Ben’s rhetoric, body language and speech is very cultish. According to him we are (almost) all doomed (he apparently knows what place in the United States will be safe when the cataclysm occurs) and his rhetoric consists of a lot of fear mongering. It felt like a very uncomfortable space. And from the comments, his subscribers seem a bit radical and extreme. I think it started out as Ben posting a channel about something he was interested in and has somehow turned into a cultish type of rhetoric channel. I’m sorry that you’ve been subjected to this. I will definitely be viewing your channel in the future. I’m glad I found it. Thank you for the work that you do to put out your videos.

Davidson is a proper charlatan, he owned a youtube marketing company which artificially created likes, subs, comments and you name it, all bots this should give you a clear foundation of what this man truly is. He is a self proclaimed scientist with absolutely no background knowledge and understanding in science whatsoever. He is a nobody desperately wanting to be known as somebody because he is a total fail in real life. That's right a failed lawyer who could only manage to be a receptionist and answering phones Ben intellectually bankrupted, without possessing an ounce of integrity due to being a total laughing stock decided to make a fake name for himself on youtube using daddys freemasonic money. In the hope he will make up for the disgrace he was in school and at home. Ben desperately needed to make a name for himself plagiarizing everyone with credibility and joining science circles with the hope of associating himself with big named scientists and respected independent researchers that he can gain some sort of reputation without actually doing anything or understanding the fields of information he pillaged. The 'peer-reviewed' nonsense he continues to parade himself with are all an attempt to gain credibility using professionals and plagiarizing and paraphrasing everything he could get his grubby hands on wrapping in total bullshit to hood-wink as many as possible. Buy the ultimate fraud was to come where he creating a Phone App using kick-starter to successfully/fraudulently ripp off $100,000 from fools who took this man on face value as some sort of amazing 'wizz-kid' instead of a modern day true snake-oil charlatan salesman. Ben is an angry man with narcissistic, sociopath tendencies its a wonder he can turn on a computer without stabbing himself. It is worth noting that Ben reads a scrip that is provided for him by his handlers. He is a creation and disinformation agent of a much higher string pulling organization. He was well known for his Pedo-buss driving around to 'teach' kiddies about his stolen discoveries miss-represented by such a despicable psychopathic liar. He then purchased several youtube media services to promote his nonsense, where he would interview himself to promote himself to establish a false persona, it is truly a sick story on so many levels. His aim is to take credible groundbreaking science discoveries and wrap it with complete garbage and burning these discoveries for good. His Electric Universe platform was part of a huge disinformation project and it should have woken everyone one up to what is really going on behind these pathetic youtube sellouts/deceivers.

The episode was called "The Professor Banned From Speaking Out: "We Need To Start Preparing Before It's Too Late!”" Bret Mentioned some things regarding use of models in science, then contradicted himself and referenced a reliable source - Ben Davidson. I stopped and noticed 3 things about that video: 1. The use of "banned" in the video title 2. his self-contradition re scientific models 3. the video outline lists a host of topics, but most of them comprise the ultra-right wing topics hit-list red flags all... So I stopped the video and went looking for the guy's source - Ben Davidson. I came across this video of yours and feel my questions are now mostly answered .... except for how a Dr. Bret Weinstein would allow himself to be informed by an idiot and how the host of "Diary of a CEO" would fall for him. Hey Dave! Found your channel recently, really enjoying the refutations of pseudoscience you've been putting out given my family's recent descent into some of it (water fluoridation being a bad thing is a big one). I followed your advice on a recent video of yours about vaccines to investigate the sources of information you receive if they are corroborating your previous worldview and tried to find anything I could that might undermine my confidence in your explanations on this channel. The only thing I found was an accusation from Ben or one of his followers in response to this video on Reddit saying that you were deleting comments to make yourself look better. That would concern me if you were removing them for that reason, so I thought I'd ask: have you deleted comments from any videos before, and if so, can you provide some justification for that choice? To be clear, I have no reason to think Ben is in the right, and I support takedowns of pseudoscience like this. I also think your educational work is a wonderful addition to the science education library on KZbin. I'm only asking to be thorough. Thanks!

I feel like all of your videos are the same, just a different subject, as my conversations on FB about mask wear. I have a background in industrial hygiene, occupational & environmental health risk assessment, etc (Bioenvironmental Engineering) and when a bunch of people asked me if a mask will stop you from getting a virus, I pointed to the micron size of a virus vs the filtering capabilities of an N-95. They completely ignored the following part that talked about reducing the spread, stopping droplets from being spread as much, etc... They keep tagging me and trying to get me to support their conspiracy theories, and unfortunately keep getting more and more annoyed that I keep contradicting just about everything they say. It hurts my brain.

Lawyer here. I don’t know this guy and don’t care to look him up but based on the wiki page you showed, even if he were technically a lawyer, it doesn’t matter. He went to a completely irrelevant law school. It’s the US, lawyers are a dime a dozen and are by no means all equally educated or qualified. I am also intrigued by the description ex-lawyer. Usually you would be described as a non-practicing or retired attorney. I wonder if he got disbarred. I am a bit hurt by the negative comments about lawyers you made and are made in the comments. There are scummy lawyers, for sure, but many of us do what we do because we want to help. We advocate for our clients rights - our job description literally is to help people.
@ProfessorDaveExplains
@ProfessorDaveExplains 3 жыл бұрын
I didn't disparage lawyers in general, I referred to him as a lawyer negatively because it has nothing to do with the expertise he claims. Also I just said that it makes him good at convincing people of things, which is only bad if you're a liar and con man. Good lawyers get big thumbs up.
@Satopi3104
@Satopi3104 3 жыл бұрын
Professor Dave Explains you kind of do though...12:36. You describe how he essentially talks out of his ass, and ask the boys and girls why he can do that and the answer is because he’s a lawyer. Not because he’s a scummy lawyer or a deceptive lawyer, but lawyer, period. I imagine you are going to reply that to take this statement as evidence that you are disparaging all lawyers is a logical fallacy, and sure, you never say explicitly that all lawyers talk complete bullshit about things they know nothing about. But you certainly imply it. I get it, taking jabs at lawyers is a staple of American humor. And plenty of lawyers have done things to warrant scorn. But I don’t know of a profession that gets as much hate as lawyers when the basic premise of the job is a helpful one. Sure, some lawyers choose to defend scum, but that doesn’t make the profession inherently scummy. And even the worst scum of the world deserve a lawyer who will defend them no matter what the scum did. that’s the entire point of due process and the bedrock principle of modern western legal systems. The only other profession I can think of that gets this much hate is investment bankers, but they get hate for what their profession, by it’s very nature, does, which is to manipulate money to make more money. So calling an investment banker greedy or money-driven isn’t an insult - it’s a job description. But calling lawyers bullshitters just because some lawyers bullshit is a bit unfair. I get it, you should punch up or at least sideways, not down, and generally lawyers tend to be better educated and better off than average members of society, so fair game for mockery, I get it. But we do have feelings too and it’s pretty tiring always being the butt of the joke.

Its not so much criminal defense lawyers that cause the overwhelming majority of Americans to despise and hate lawyers. Its also the family law lawyers who relish tearing families apart and engaging in parental alienation, lawyers who are ambulance chasers and sue anyone and everyone and relish destroying people, lawyere who often become corrupt lifetime politicians and so on. Give us a break - most lawyers are scum. And everyone knows it.
