37:50 So, fun fact, that body part can be depressed, according to doctors! It's a condition called 'vulvodynia', for which anti depressants and anti anxiety meds are often prescribed. It was also covered, famously on an episode of SATC, Season 4 Ep 2, where Charlotte proclaims, after seeing the doctor, 'my v's depressed!'. For that portion of the body, so, so, much is psychosomatic. AVAA!

@@professorskye I teach a hip hop poetics class in the English department at my college, and I've been thinking about making a video about 4th wave feminism/modern womanism in hip hop. I recognize that your audience is much MUCH larger than mine, but would you be interested in collaborating on a video about Black female hip hop artists? I'm more interested in how these artists fit into the current black womanist/feminist movement than on analyzing their lyrics which is what my hip hop poetics course focuses on. Btw, congratulations on the newest addition to your family. And, congratulations on making videos despite the sleep deprivation of having a newborn!

AVAA! Meg's major embrace of anime on her album is very significant to me as a 25 year old black woman. It has only recently become socially acceptable to be publicly into anime. It's a real social risk as a black person. I love how she doesn't care and is open about being a black weeb. It's yet another layer of her being open and relatable. Same for Accent (im from Texas too). She is made fun of quite often for her thick accent so to see her bragging about it is so amazing! I see myself all throughout this album and that's a rarity in our entertainment! Thank you for adding more relatability with your analysis ❤

Before this video came out actually spent the entire of yesterday listening to Meghan's entire discog and her freestyles because i felt like I've beej ignoring her for too long. And damn right her lyricism is incredible: wity punchlines, sexual expression, power fantasy and for the most part of Traumazine reflecting on betrayal amd exploitation in the industry.

Fascinating theory, thank you for the stream. I might've missed it because I hopped in a bit late, but I wonder how this relation between identity and the symbolic aspects of the vag1na relate to her choice of adopting snake imagery (which in my experience is usually a phallic image)? I remember thinking to myself that Megan is adopting the snake/redefining the snake's symbolic meaning by focusing on its power and rebirth (the sacred 'Myth' of the snake), without necessarily excluding its seductiveness (the 'stigma' of the snake- would stigma even be the word here? But I refer to its 'naughtiness' LOL). I could just be blowing smoke because I find Megan so interesting, but your discussion really made me think. Also, i didnt know you like anime. Thanks for the stream!

AVAA !! i love your videos and your insight into albums that i love! I would’ve loved to hear more of your thoughts on the anime references in the songs and i wanted to share one that i think is super awesome! BOA is obviously in reference to a boa constrictor, but she’s also using in to reference a character from One Piece named Boa Hancock. I thought you’d think it was a cool correlation. if you look into her character she is thought to be the most beautiful woman in the world and lives/rules on an island of woman only. she has the power to control/turn men to statues with her looks. she’s a badass for sure, but she also is shown to come down with a “love sickness”. that is to say, even the most beautiful and powerful woman in the world can have desires to be wanted and want someone else. she’s a really cool character and i thought her drawing inspiration from her was really cool!! thanks for another great video:)

Appreciate the lesson but the album is still terrible. She a talented lyricist but this is a very lazy album. She has zero creativity and is very limited by her vocabulary. She makes really good verses and freestyles but she can not put together a decent album.
@veem40595 ай бұрын
ik it’s your opinion and everything but i wouldn’t call it terrible lol. it’s a decent album, obviously not her best but not terrible. it pays homage to the south, has club hits, she’s vulnerable on it and incorporates her interests (japanese culture/anime). and i believe you mean her topics are limited, her vocab is actually very broad which is what makes her a talented lyricist. and as for zero creativity i think that’s just untrue cause to be a good freestyler (which she is) you need to be creative. now the problem with this album is that it is safe sonically, but still manages to be a bit all over the place and it drags. it’s as if she’s trying to please everyone. like there are too many fillers, it was originally 14 but she made it 18 after asking her fans what type of music they wanted. she also needs to work on her choruses cause they are repetitive. i think she needs to just break out of her simple production shell and explore new musical styles. write fuller choruses. keep her bodys of work concise and close to her vision. and work on her delivery and how she expresses herself on a song
@stephendavis89685 ай бұрын
@@veem4059 I completely disagree. Especially on the vocabulary end and to be a talented freestyler doesn’t require creativity. I’m not sure how you’re connecting the two. I agree that it’s sonically safe which is why it’s not creative. The length isn’t the issue, if the album was 5 songs it would still be very bad. There aren’t even 3 good songs on this album. I like Megan but this was a very hard listen. It didn’t even deserve the analysis that the Prof uploaded. Basic surface level bars, repeated themes in over half the songs, cookie cutter production. A lot of lows, some mid but no highs. Can you think of a worse album that came out this year? I can’t.
