i feel like the concept of yandere was misrepresented here, a yandere doesn't want to kill you, they will want to kill other people if they jeopardize the chance of having a relationship with you. majority of the violence is inflicted on other people, if they do violence to you then that tends to be limited to manipulative ways to try and keep you in the relationship or under their control.

Indeed, I assume the definition of yandere was confused with the one of yangire. Yangire are sweet with violent tendencies against anyone, even loved ones. So you could get murdered by a yangire girlfriend, but yandere would never, you could still lose a few limbs though.

For the sake of being complete, the Yan-dere wiki lists 5 general categories based on common traits of the trope: 1) Manipulative - Sets things up so that their love interest would always want to be with them 2) Isolating - Prevents their love interest from interacting with others at all 3) Submissive - Will do anything (even be self-destructive) for their love interest 4) Eliminating - Will attack rivals (or even the love interest) 5) Delusional - Has made up a delusion to convince themself that their love is reciprocated. There are definitely Yanderes that would cause direct harm to their love interest under reasoning like "if I can't have you, no one can", but I nonetheless agree that Yanderes have been misrepresented here, because the trope is also more than just "stab-stab-stab", and we can't simplify the entire trope into just that one category.

though yottadere and yoidere are similar, they are not the same. A yoidere's defining characteristic is that they are calm and collected normally, but outgoing and cheerful when drunk. Yottaderes, in opposition, are defined by the fact that they are nearly always drunk. you can, in fact, be both. you can also be a yoigire, which is the same as a yoidere, but a violent and angry drunk.

Technically, Tsundere's don't refere to hard women with a soft exterior but it describes a character development: From Tsun Tsun to Dere Dere. This obviously is not how it evolved; but this change started really early, at least before 2004. Personally, I like this deredere dato naru tsuntsun (A tsuntsun who beccomes deredere, I think, blame my japanese) rather than a straight up tsundere.

For anyone interested in comparison, TV Tropes also offers an alternative explanation: Instead of being necessarily a development from "tsun tsun" to "dere dere", they instead define the trope as being a character with a "Tsun" side and a "Dere" side. This leads to a much broader list of characters qualifying for the trope, because it allows the direction to be reversed. A character who is usually "Tsun" could become "Dere" when they open up to others, a character who is usually "Dere" can become "Tsun" when embarrassed or angry, and if we go by the system used by TV Tropes, these would both be considered Tsundere characters.

I think people attach dere out of hope that their character ship will sail, as most were types that were commonly displayed (together) in harem manga originally. One could argue dating sims also created types of dere to differentiate characters... but I don't know it's true origin because now dere types are everywhere & I can't keep up.

@Coomamon_Memes With all the original traits you had mentioned, if they're being overly analytical and not particularly interested in romance until a much later development, then that just makes them a clumsy Kuudere. Kuudere doesn't mean she has to be perfectly poised at all times, but that the character will approach the romance in a very level headed, calculated, almost completely detatched manner, instead of falling head over heels for their romantic interest.
