I'd love a full breakdown. I took my PT and Nutritionist Cert through ISSA but like most education, there's textbook and reality. These videos have helped me practice on myself as I went for the "complete newbie starts working out and took education to try to teach herself" route. So these videos are my lifeline as I know NOTHING in practice. :)

Hello. I just found your channel and I have recently graduated NASM as a PT. I am loving your videos. You have a wonderful way of speaking and looking at the way things could be done. I love that you r not so ridged on certain factors and allow for breathing room. I have my first training session with a client in 2 days and your videos are a great confidence booster. I would like to thank you for the forms as well. They were a great help. I even replaced a few of the ones I drew up. Your video presentations are very relatable and well done. Thank you again for all your time and effort.

I'm already retired "thanks" to a military transport accident, so my study and focus on training has been to actively NOT retain clients. I want them to not need me once we're done, because they're now fit, and educated on how to maintain that fitness for as long as possible.

It sounds like your head and heart are in the right place! I think the thing that people don’t know until they’ve done training for a while is why most people sign up for training in the first place. Your accountability is far and away the number one reason.

Something that I think would be super useful to see: what your thoughts are on duration of rest times for each training phase listed on your phasing system sheet
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation Жыл бұрын
I thought about putting rest interval stuff on there but I decided against it at the last minute. I aim for 1-2 minutes rest time between exercises, but it varies a lot depending on the client. Anyways, on average the bigger moves take longer to recover from (2ish mins) and the smaller moves don’t take as long (1 min give or take) Again, it varies a ton when training average, everyday people.

Thanks! I’m glad you found it helpful! Here’s the next video that breaks things down more: kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3Wvm617p5iUY5Y As far as switching from lower/squats to upper/bench, for most general population clients you could program either move on a regular basis. I start most clients with total body sessions so bench press, squats, and most other compound moves show up on a regular basis.

HI Jeff - thank you (again) for all you share with trainers. I struggle at times mainly because I desire to work with trainers who are like minded who wish to collaborate and share thoughts and ideas on a frequent basis. So, I rely heavily on trainers such as you who share so freely. I have immersed myself in learning programming. I approach most things with a scientific mind (I taught math and science for 20 years). Here is my struggle- 95% of my clients only train 1x/week. Progress is happening, but it's very slow. My retention is very good, so I can observe said progress. The programming piece becomes confusing for me when they train 1x/week. How do you approach this client with programming? How do phase a once-a-weeker? Most all programming I encounter is set for clients who train 2-3 times/week. Any insight is greatly appreciated. From your #1 Fan in Atlanta!!
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation Жыл бұрын
Thanks for all your support! Great question-phasing for a 1x weeker is going to be a lot slower. Depending on whether you’re programming for them for outside of your sessions (and whether they actually do it…), you might be able to follow a normal progression but for the most part, you’ll just have to extend everything longer. If someone is really only working out 1x per week, phasing them “on time” really isn’t as necessary. They just need to make progress-see if you can increase weights/sets/reps every few sessions to make sure they’re consistently growing.

Do you have any tips or could make a vid for personal trainers who work in busy gyms where maybe some of the equipment is in use or how to have better client retention in a busy gym? Appreciate you a ton! Trying to get like you one day ;)

Thanks for the love and support! I’ve got some videos on client retention, here’s one right here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXetk5J9f8tkj5I I don’t think my strategies would be much different regardless of where I train. As far as sharing equipment, ya unfortunately that’s just how it is in some spots. There’s not much you can do about that, except finding a spot where you don’t have to deal with it. It definitely takes away from your training.

This is a huge help. Maybe I missed it in the video, but how come you switched up the categories and moved things around? And is there a way to still access the old sheet? Thanks!

Thanks for the support! There is no way to access the old sheet. We use them in my studio and found that the new one is just better overall.

Have you had clients that are at both sides of the spectrum with levels and intensity? Say, the general health client most often referenced here but also, the client training for competition (wellness, physique, etc), or serious powerlifters, and so on? It would be awesome if you did a video on your experience with these types of clients. I have general wellness clients and clients with limitations, I am SUPER new as a personal trainer. Under 6 months. I was just wondering when it comes to the communication part and honestly the... intensity I put into the coach-client dynamic, myself? I feel like the relationship with my clients now is much more casual, and that is great! But is that okay? Should I be more "coach-ey" to them? I.e. intense. Sorry if that was confusing! I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.

Thanks for the support! Ya I’ve had some more extreme clients as well! I’ve worked with pretty competitive marathoners. I’ve trained a few somewhat serious strength competitors as well! I could see myself covering some of that stuff going forward in the future! Those types of clients make up a very small percentage of the pool, but they’re out there!

Great vid currently binging your vids as preparation. If you start training say a male 18-25 and his only interest is hypertrophy would it make sense to skip the previous phases and go straight onto the hypertrophy phase and build up the weight slowly session by session while improving form and giving the clients body enough time to adapt. Then proceed onto a strength phase then back to a hypertrophy phase and repeat etc? Or Linear periodization? When I started training in my teens I was skinny and just wanted some abs, bigger shoulders and biceps with more strength while staying lean. I booked a session with a PT and he ended giving me a light endurance workout. I was frustrated, bored and thought it was a waste of time because online I saw people doing 8-10 reps lifting heavy etc so I never booked a PT again and learned it all online and just started doing my own workouts. I'd like to give people the results they want asap while making sure they have good form

That’s how I would generally do it..depending somewhat on whether or not he’s ever trained before. The only thing I wouldn’t necessarily do is increase weight each session…only when RIR is right where I want it to be. But yes, you’re right. The training style can adapt with the client age wise/ability wise/etc.

Hi! thank you! what useful information; I like your thinking and strategy! I'm just curious whether your concept/program is scientifically substantiated or is this just based on experience

Thank you for the kind words! I wouldn’t say anything I’ve recommended in this video isn’t rooted in science. We’re really just following the laws of resistance training we know to be true. Progressive overload is necessary to make progress and compound lifts are the most efficient.

Great video. One question and I hope hope I gonna define it on a good way. So every faze is 18 training sessions, are you splitting or choosing exercises based on how many time client can exercise per week or? How you decide which group of exercise is for that day, split pull/ push, whole body , lower / upper based on how many times client coming or goal is "catch" little bit of everything? thanx
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation
@SortaHealthyTrainerEducation Жыл бұрын
Good question! The training split I choose does depend on a few things. The clients goals, how many times a week their coming in, and their experience level. I start most clients off with total body sessions. If I think it would benefit the client, I might switch to a upper/lower body split or push, pull, legs split. It all depends on the person. If a client is canceling often, or they’re inconsistent, stick with total body every time.

A question, you said that doing the same exercises becomes boring for the client which I can kinda understand, it’s fun to spice up things a bit, but if the main exercises just work best, and it’s unnecessary to introduce new movements, isn’t it just better to keep them? Like this the client can focus on keeping good form while progressively increasing the weight. Thanks for the video!

There’s definitely a middle ground that you’re trying to achieve when working with most gen pop clients. You should be doing the most effective exercises often, but you want some variety to keep things interesting. Remember, most regular people aren’t interested in being able to back squat 500 pounds. You still want them to squat often, because it’s a good move, but they probably don’t need to squat as often as a powerlifter.
