Thank you. That was helpful. I usually use keyboard mode just cause i find it simpler without the shift presses but will start using step mode more often.

Once you get used to it - I think it's much easier... Especially if you make a mistake or have a specific idea.

I hope I do not sound stupid but where did you get the sequence card. I think it helps to use one. What U cannot visualise is that there are 8 banks each of which can store eight patterns. Does this mean the mother can store 64 sequences. I am lost. Sorry. I cannot understand this bank thing.

Not a stupid question at all!!! There's a big learning curve, just getting used to the jargon/vocab is the hardest part. Are you talking about the written sequence at about 1:20? That is how I write out the patches for my Patchbooks that I put on Patreon. I designed that myself using Photoshop. I have some blank ones up on my Patreon page. You should check it out! :) You are right! 8 banks x 8 Sequences = 64 total. I'm using patterns and sequences as interchangable words in this video. Think of it as: 1-1, 1-2, 1-3... Etc. Let me know if that helps.

Thank you. Yes at 1.20. Using your idea, I have spent two great hours drawing out the mother 32 sequencer with all eight banks and eight sequences to each bank with up to 32 boxes to write in the notes. This has helped my brain to visualise the sequencer as a whole unit and to be able to refer to sequences visually by note form. I am beginning to " get " it now and how to use the sequencer. Thanks to you! Btw I have just paid in to your Patreon thingy! I look forward to going through all your moog mother32, subharmonicon and DFAM tutes. Cheers

The mother 32 is a great example of why some synths should just have screens on them lol

Ha. Yeah, I go back and forth about the screen thing. I used to have a big hangup about screens and wanted nothing to do with it, but I'm softening on that stance now... It definitely would be helpful.

I have watched your video many times. I can do the keyboard mode and step mode up to 1 -8 notes. I cannot do a 32 step sequence and its driving me bonkers. 1 Set Bank 2 Set Pattern. 3 Initialise the pattern. 4 Shift and Step for step mode. 5 Set octave. 6 Press 32 step button 4th led to the right lights up. 7 Press set end 8 Press button 8 9 Press buttons 1-8 then 9-16 then 17-24 then 25-32 to check all leds light up on each instance so its armed for 32 step sequence. 10 Press shift and key no 1, enter note etc etc till I have entered the 8th note of page 1-8. Now I get stuck because I expect 9-16 led to light up prompting me to enter the first note but it does not and everything turns into nonsense. The Moog Mother manual does not explain how to do a 32 step sequence. I am now on my knees begging you PLEASE to do one more video entitled " HOW TO ENTER A 32 STEP SEQUENCE ON THE MOTHER 32". Nice and slowly and no quick tweaks!!! I don't want spaces, glides, ratchets or a partridge in a pear tree!! as I can do that. I think it is this one aspect that dogs most people. I will be so grateful. Please??? Peter

Fear not! There are two sequencing modes - Keyboard and Step. They each have different ways to enter the sequence. I think your error is that you are expecting the sequencer to behave like it's in Keyboard mode. You should learn both, however, I'll explain how to finish it off in step mode because you're 99% of the way there! After step 10 - when you've programmed the 8th step. The sequencer will not shift to the next page of steps (It does that in Keyboard mode). After you've entered the 8th note, press shift and the 8th note. That will deselect all notes for editing. You should see all the lights lit up - steps 1-8 (on page 1). Now switch to page 2 by pressing [9-16]. That will change the buttons to step 9-16. They should be not lit because you haven't entered information. Enter notes the same way as Step 10. So that's the key you're missing. In step mode, you select notes for editing. If you press shift and the currectly selected note, it deselects the note and allows you to change pages of steps. Step Mode is easiest if you want to change a particular note, if you have pre-determined sequences, if you need to fix a mistake, and if you want to add details like rachets and accents. Keyboard Mode is easiest if you want to program a quick sequence. In Keyboard mode, you can just enter the notes and stop when you've reached the last note you want to enter. I hope that helps!!!

@@braintree56 Ahhhhh! That explains it. Thank you so much for your time and trouble. I like the idea of writing my own tunes firstly with a pencil and manuscript paper and to then transfer the song to Mother 32 in step mode because I use various octaves which are difficult to key in on KB mode using just the M32 keys. I also like the facility of the M32 turning into a clock divider when playing back in step mode. I had a jam with a simple 1-8 sequence because I could not work out how to proceed futher. Anyway my face lit up when I discovered how versatile the M32 sequencer is when clicking the Reset button, the Hold buttons and the arrows left and right which become a clock divider. I have scoured the manual again and it does not mention this vital information you have kindly highlighted for the step mode issue. Thank you so much Braintree56.
