Post hurricane shelling is normally something I get really excited about. I watch the storm and try to figure out which beach I'll hit. Well, this hurricane had me running for Orlando, and once it hit I really had no desire to go to the beach. My heart was too broken to do anything other than clean up and try to help my neighbors.
I have called the county and will be attending a meeting regarding tourism next month and I have signed up to be notified when the county will start cleaning the beach. I am looking to perhaps sponsor a portion of the beach and help clean up.

I think I got the junonia you were looking for. It was near the water on Wednesday afternoon. Kind of bittersweet after losing 2 cars in a flooded garage. I also wanted to support our shelling tour boats and needed to recharge after massive cleanup. Thank you to all of your supporters for their prayers and kind words. It really means a lot to those of us who call SW Florida home.

The hardest part after any disaster is doing something normal. Good that you’re supporting local folks. It is heartbreaking. But, as you say, life goes on, seeing the little birds is proof of that. Kice, as always, gives so much. Big hugs, stay safe x

The best way to rebuild any community in the long run is to rebuild it's economy so to the extent where one does not become a nuisance or where safety becomes a concern, any support locally is a good thing.

All I can say is, “Sigh!” Thank you for going out and doing what you do. A great respite for the sadness around us. There are many neighborhoods here in the Port Orange/ New Smyrna/ Daytona Beach area still dealing with flooded homes and displaced families. Thanking God for the beautiful sunrises and sunsets. I was in FL one week after the hurricane and had originally planned to travel down to the islands in the SW but my family and I felt we didn’t belong down there so soon with all of the rescue efforts and people trying to navigate through the devastation - we didn’t want to use any of the resources down there and take away from the locals who are trying to recover💔our hearts and prayers go out to all of you…..will visit again soon 🌴

Thank you for your concern! As a Floridian (and fellow Hurricane Ian survivor), I’ve seen a number of videos where people were coming down here basically to sightsee. Please, please, please let the recovery work continue as so many of us are trying to rebuild own homes/lives. If you’re here to help with the recovery effort-FANTASTIC-A BIG GOLD STAR FOR YOU!!! Otherwise, pray (if you do) for us!!!!!

And I just have to mentions the fighting conchs... oh those beautiful patterns!!

That's a very decent haul! You know, it is perfectly fine to get away from all the destruction sometimes and do something you really enjoy. And you are still helping someone's business while doing it. It can be downright depressing to dwell on all the mess and the loses. Life goes on. And I hope to go on one of those shelling tours the next time I'm in SW Florida.

That was very moving and I believe you are so right about getting out and doing "normal" things after such devastation, there are so many benefits for everyone in those simple actions. I'm sure many of us are interested in any information you are able to share with us regarding tourism, so that we too can visit and support those local businesses. As far as this tour to Kice, wow that was a lot of Pen shells. As always you got a fabulous haul and my favorite was the True Tulip, until you picked up the Rose Murex. Remember to take care of yourself as you reach out to help your community rebuild and know that you are all in the thoughts and prayers of people from around the world.

So wonderful to see you out shelling again! I think it's very important after experiencing something that is so emotionally traumatizing that you get back to doing something that brings you pleasure and comfort. And I'm sure that the locals that you support are appreciative too!

It’s lovely to see you back. Thoughts still with those dealing with the aftermath of the storm. How kind you are to be thinking of others even though you have also been effected too. 🥰xxx

It is so important to take time to experience some normalcy. Don’t ever feel bad for doing that. It will re-energize you to be able to be the positive and kind hearted person that you are. Things will get better and people will rebuild. Sending best wishes to you and all of SWF from up here in Nova Scotia.

Great video! It’s often hard and guilt-inducing to think in terms of ‘normal’ when the devastation is still surrounding you everywhere. I’m glad you are able to support others ❤

Awww, I’m so full of joy that you went to Kice Island. That was just the medicine that you needed, and I love that you are supporting local businesses. I told my husband that the next time we come down to SWF, I want to take a tour to Kice. SWF will come back strong. It’s going to, I promise!

And that Rose Murex! That was astounding in color and condition! I have found two or three Cabrit’s Murex, but the Rose is still a bucket list shell for me.

I’m so glad to see you back! I love how you are so positive on a time of devastation. The donation to the shell tour company is such an awesome way of giving back. Your shells are beautiful. We were in Sanibel two weeks before the storm. All I could think of is the loss of people, homes, businesses, animals, etc. I pray reconstruction is helping others. I love it there. Here in St. Augustine had some flooding and power outages, minor stuff. But ironically there were a lot of the pen shells here as well after the storm. Keep up the good work. ❤

I am looking forward to exploring St. Augustine one of these days. So much history there. Weird that there were pen shells up that way too 🤔

@@SWFBeachLife when you come, the shells are at Vilano Beach and Porpoise Point in St. Augustine. Not really any at St. Augustine Beach.
