Tik Tok Twats is now my favorite newest word. It has been so ingrained in me my whole life that moving heavy ass weight constitutes muscle growth that it is literal work every single set not to fall into that trap. I still fall into that trap if I'm being honest. I'd like to think I'm on top of my ego but I'm not as much as I hope to be. Training your mind to train your body properly should be a whole Fucking routine on its own lol

Bruh ever since I started doing leg extensions with that little tip that you gave us(trying to imagine you are trying to being your knees together), my legs started growing like crazy. I am now seeing different muscles on my legs that I couldnt see 2 months ago

I've been trying to get this right myself. I feel like some weeks I'm nailing it. Other weeks I feel like my knees do whatever the fuck they want. So it's obvious I haven't grasped the concept of exactly what I'm suppose to do but I mean I'm trying and when I can make that connection man do you know it.

Thank you so much Mike, I would also like to see a video on db incline bench press since my shoulders always hurt while doing it but when I use your technique on flat db bench press I feel the muscle perfectly fine and shoulders ain't hurting at all, actually it feels like I'm using 0% of my shoulders while doing flat db bench

6:31 I agree with this. Even as someone that trains using powerlifting principles, my whole thing is doing "As little work as possible to illicit the most amount of change", and the idea of gripping and ripping as much weight as possible in the name of "progressive overload" is weird to me.
@MikeVanWyck2 жыл бұрын
It’s non sense. U can’t progressive overload forever it’s not possible. To chase increases in weight is therefore a road to nowhere in the grand scheme of things

I got to moving some heavy loads but what these kids didn't realise is that it took me 5-6 years to get to that point. I didn't watch blood and guts one time and think yah, I'll slap on 3 plates next session... My training was influenced by Mike Mentzer/Dorian/JP, I took what I learned from them and made it my own. Yeah 4-5 plates on a machine looks fuccen cool, loading a hacksquat looks badass, but what's it all for? I'm not competing. I don't want to be an "influencer". Plus my body doesn't recover like it did in my 20's. Risk to reward ratio was not worth it. So I've changed things up, back to higher volume, reduce the loads by more than half! And I'm aiming for 12-15 reps, just blasting blood into the target muscle. As I get stronger, I'll add a set, reduce rest times between sets, reduce the amount of days rest between sessions, add weight. Time to bodybuild again.

I always start dumbbells at the bottom of the press. If you can press from the bottom you have a better feeling of the load and tension. Also if it's so heavy you cant drive out from the bottom...its probably too heavy for you.

Yo Mike! I agree with you that chasing strength won't always create a BBer. For some that will work but not all. I would like to add to the convo that using measured progression (could be a rep, set, wt, band w/e) is a tool to teach folks what a HARD set is. If we are trying to push a muscle to failure or beyond the avg Joe gets nowhere near failure. But having a goal for each workout or set or w/e is necessary to teach them what HARD is. Once they know what hard is I think they can go in and do what they want so long as they have X # of HARD sets per muscle group per week. I think most upper echelon BBer agree on training styles more than they disagree. IMHO

Judging by what Mike just dropped, I feel like he also will release a video for those who feel like they need to squeeze the ever-living crap out of the muscle on every inch. I used to do that til I realized I was more focused on creating the most painful contraction that would make me dread every set rather than having a connection with my muscle that stays with me through the entire set.

I've always started dumbbell press from a dead start at the bottom. It's where the real raw power is formed. Also I would never get anyone to hand me dumbbells. I would lift them off the floor onto my knees. Then fall back so the weights are on my chest then press it up off my chest. I would do this with 60Kg dumbbells.

Mike whats your opinion on HIT style training (Mentzer/Yates)? The main idea being limiting the amount of overall work to facilitate more overcompensation/growth instead of a large amount of energy and time going toward recovery. (ie: less sets more intensity and to failure)
