My 10 yo is a gentle giant. He has good technical skills and built like a powerful athlete, but doesn't know how to use his body well and lacks confidence. I've been struggling to find ways to help him tap into that physicality and aggression that I think everyone needs to be able to harness. Really appreciate you making this video and hope you do more like it. Do you have anything on teaching body mechanics ? He seems like a fish out of water when I try to teach him to bend his knees, get over the ball, stay on your toes, get low, and I 'm wondering if you have any tricks/methods/drills to help a player become familiar with their own body/natural form. Thanks!

Hi. I have been binging your videos to help my son improve his soccer playing. His last game was his best because he implemented a few of the skills from your videos. The coach said he needs to be more aggressive. So I searched your channel for "aggressive" and found this. Thank you so much for the content. It's really helping us.

This is great! It's unfortunate that shielding the ball is not taught this way we are always taught not to use hands and arms because of potential fouls but I strongly agree with using hands and arms for leverage and also having a strong soccer stance and balance can be very important when shielding the ball. What I mean by strong soccer balance is kids should not be easily push down to the ground when they are shielding the ball they should be rock solid.

As an old guy coming into soccer from MANY years ago I had no clue what I could do. This was super helpful. I was standing up getting pushed off the ball all the time. I always had my back to the attacker.. they just kicked it between my legs! NO arms out coz I was scared of being fouled! In the corner it was embarrassing, as I did now know what to do. I love the tactic of kicking into the attacker, which I thought of doing, but again did not know it was allowed. I will practice this and improve heaps!

It has been a long time since I played (what, 20 years lol) but my girls are playing now. And I am trying to impart some of my old man wisdom on them when it comes to the game. The one thing I have been trying to teach more than anything is use your body. On defense especially (I was a defender in my day) but make sure you get right on the other player, and have that constant body contact, crowd their space and just get physical with them. Make life as uncomfortable as you can for them.

No thats not true. If you use your arms to push someone in the back or face, or raise an elbow, use your arms to intentionally hurt someone, that is a foul. Hey, I hear you. Soccer can be tough, especially when facing opponents who are stronger or more aggressive. It's true, not every opponent will respond well to aggressive play. That's why it's essential to adapt your approach based on the situation and the opponent you're facing. Instead of solely relying on physicality, focus on improving your technique, positioning, and decision-making. These are aspects of the game that can help you overcome physical disadvantages. Work on quick, precise passes to evade pressure, and use your agility to outmaneuver opponents. Also, remember that aggression in soccer doesn't always mean being physical. It's about being proactive, determined, and assertive in your play. Look for opportunities to win the ball back through interceptions and smart positioning. Ultimately, soccer is a game of skill, strategy, and adaptability. Keep honing your abilities, stay composed under pressure, and always approach the game with respect for your opponents. It's all part of the journey of becoming a better player. Keep pushing forward! 🚀

We, as coaches, are influential adults and role models for these kids. We ought to be teaching the kids to play the right way and showing them to do the right thing even if others don't and even when we think cheaters are getting away with it.

I can understand how this is interpreted as a foul. A good thing to consider is that strength and balance is expected to keep possession. As long as the ball is within a playable distance, a player can make themselves bigger to keep possession. Just extending an arm is not considered a foul, especially at more competitive levels. Players who are strong and intelligent use their arms, hips, butt and shoulders to create an extra barrier for opposing players. A defending player must use strength, speed and balance to gain an advantage. As long as they are not pulled, grabbed or struck, there is no infraction. This can get subjective the higher the play but he is enforcing good habits for better soccer player.
