Meta Knight was still good in Smash 4, doubly so before his upair got nerfed. But Ultimate Bayonetta? All you have to do is hold shield and her gameplan falls apart.

I always loved Meta Knight for his cool design, and his broken-beyond-repair gameplay in Brawl accentuated my liking for him even more. He seemed like the perfect rival to Kirby. However, one of my biggest caveats I have with using him in Smash is how all of his Special Moves cause him to free fall. Admittedly, he kinda needed the nerf, but it was more severe than I initially thought.

At least I think his down B is better than it used to be. Also, Side B is more accurate to use now that it is slower. And Meta Knight still has some of the best abilities to return to stage as well as do tricks at the ledge.

As a middle schooler I had no console or PC to play real games. Just flash games on a mac. All my friends had consoles and what not. At a huge sleepover party, we started playing smash brawl. I thought meta knight looked cool and so I joined in and after a few rounds of getting used to a new game, I was constantly dominating and winning for the rest of the night and the next morning. It was so much fun making the kids that owned the game in the first place rage quit to the new guy who just so happened to think the most broken character looked the coolest. I will never forget about that even though it seems like such a long time ago and is a distant memory

Meta knight being op in brawl really fit him even if it was most likely unintentional as the game was made to be more of a party game and not have glitches people could exploit for the competitive scene. Meta knight is a highly expected sword fighter likely the strongest in all of smash lore wise and I feel that he should be made to reflect that. Every stroke of his blade should feel like an experienced slash and everyone of his moves should reflect his power. He may not be the best character in smash ultimatel but he's surely left his mark on smash history.

Not to pull anyone’s strings, but can you all, maybe, explain what happened? I used to watch top-tier players on YT, but then things had changed. I.g.: Both ZeRo and Nairo had gotten themselves banned. I don’t know why yet. :/

@@fluffyadit7899 I believe Zero knowingly asked an underage girl online to share nude photos so that got him banned. Nairo was banned but then reversed banned since people found out CaptainZack was manipulating the situation that occurred. The original accusation was that since Zack was underage Nairo had a relationship with him. In truth Nairo was drunk and assaulted by Zack and then blackmailed. Nairo is unbanned but Twitch has not unbanned his twitch account, which makes it impossible for him to compete in future live tournaments as Twitch has not responded yet to the unban and has a policy of channels not allowed to show the banned people. Nairo now streams on youtube and will probably only be able to stream with friends when they comeover, but not at the same time that they are streaming. Nairo also can't compete so for time being he is retired unless something in the future changes his banned status on twitch.

Brawl: Easily the best character in the game and probably the most powerful Smash character in history (altho there is an argument for Smash 4 Bayonetta being better, I'm personally in the Meta Knight camp) 4: Still extremely good, tho not as powerful as his Brawl counterpart. He was essentially dash attack and up air the character, along with having great ledge guarding abilities. Would be a top 10 until the DLC characters came out, but even then, MK was still pretty good against the DLC. Ultimate: Was very underwhelming at the start, often landing in low tier on most tier lists. MK has since gotten very few results in tournaments but he does have some potential to rise, along with getting a few buffs. MK is now often considered a mid tier character in many tier lists and could potentially rise further thanks to his amazing ledge guarding being just as good, if not better than some of the current top tiers. He could rise to high tier but for that to happen, there is going to need to be a seriously good, talented, and dedicated player getting extremely good results in tournaments.

Meta Knight...had a very rocky road. His Ultimate version however is quite fairly balanced, requiring proper skill to fully utilize. Also his Galacta and Dark skins are really cool!

Dang, I did not realize Meta Knight was like that in Brawl. The main thing being the sword range being so oddly disjointed. Also, "relatively early on" for Smash Ultimate's meta... I am not sure about that. Once all the DLC releases, who knows what happens. Nintendo may try to release another Smash against Sakurai's wishes and do it without him. In my opinion, that would be a terrible scenario, but it seems really appealing for Nintendo money-wise, especially with how selfish they have been. But I do hope that we see another 3 years of this game or something because there is still so much more for us to explore once the patches finally stabilize.

I think the only thing Meta Knight needs is a better down tilt. I think Meta Knight playing linear or being seriously broken does not make him truly meta. The disjoint on Meta Knight's sword and the lack of startup on side B in Brawl was ridiculous and makes it look like an unfinished game when compared to how Meta Knight plays now. And with Smash 4, Meta Knight only used one game plan for the most part, which is not how complex Meta Knight should play.

@@sigurdtheblue I mean, MK right now can barely says has hitboxes. They're mostly tiny and last for, at best, TWO frames, with a lot of them being just one. Not to mention he has almost Sheik like DPH, although Sheik is at least extremely fast and has insane safety in basically everything. Not to mention trying to use Mach Tornado off stage and bouncing off the ledge.

People often compare Brawl MK to Sm4sh Bayo. While they were both objectively busted and meta dominating, MK was great for Brawl, while Bayo was horrible for Sm4sh. I say this because, like the video mentions, despite how oppressive MK is in Brawl, he is still a very high skill, expressive character. While Bayo on the other hand is flowcharting: the character. MK doesn't touch you once or just press down B and kill you for it, Bayo does. Brawl MK was incredibly fun to play, and fun to watch, Bayo was neither of those. I liken Bayo to Brawl ICs. Get grabbed once and you die. Extremely unfun for everyone involved. I often wonder if Brawl MK would still be broken if he was modded into Ultimate, gliding and all.

Fair, but that was because Brawl’s mechanics didn’t allow for free flow combos. Revert his stats back to those of brawl with ultimate’s engine, and he too will be 0 to deathing off a single won exchange in neutral. He already could do that to an extent in sm4sh from the looks of it.

More damage on his aerials would kill his combo game. He desperately needs a standing grab range buff, up tilt needs a scoop hitbox (it literally cannot hit some characters while you are in jostle range) and it would be cool if they made its FaF better. Up-Smash is also pretty bad. Everything else about the character is perfectly acceptable, but if I had to pick something to buff, it'd be his horizontal air-speed, to allow him to more reliably follow DI on combos.
