Easily it's biggest flaw is that beginner's hump to get over. Seems to be a thing with anime and games from Japan. They make their series VERY unfriendly to new people by not explaining things and just assuming everyone has seen/played the previous ones.

To be 100% honest, I've never played a Monster Hunter game, I'm going to get MH4U soon and I'm watching this just so I can understand what to do, and it seems complicated, which I absolutely love, they tried to make it seem like your character is an actual human, who has to eat and do basic human necessities.
@Art2D2
@Art2D2 10 жыл бұрын
That is actually what I love about MH. I started with MH3U and it is an entirely different experience from 4U as it feels like an easy going life but with the thrill of living and dealing with monstrous threats. However with that said, MH4U is the best place for a newbie to the series to start with. They're completely different games content wise, but the new game is the friendliest for newbies to learn about how to play.

+Travikius R He said Rathian. Not Pink Rathian. There is a huge difference. Regular Rathian is a BIT of a challenge, but Pink Rathian is an asshole. ESPECIALLY in 4U. She flies and then homes in on you with that backflip tail slam that causes poison. Then she's so aggressive that unless you leave the area to heal up, you will never get rid of that poison ailment and you'll be carted. For sure. But regular Rathian ain't no thing.

I've been playing monster hunter ever since these videos came out and haven't looked back since. As an experienced hunter, you do a very good job covering the basics for newcomers. You should also mention the differences between weapon sets and the benefits of each in the next video. Also should convey how to look for monster movements that tell what they'll be doing next. A good hunter is able to read what a monster is going to do next or what its going to do.

I prefer to kill my monsters when you're not required to capture them. Capturing monsters seems more like a desperate attempt to finish the quest than hunting monsters. And sometimes I hold deep grudges against certain monsters....*Looks at Agnaktor*

I tend to use capture guru and capture monsters as soon as I can. Unless I'm farming materials for a weapon which have a higher drop rate on monster death. Capturing is just faster. I don't like to waste time.

EvilShadowD But doesn't murdering them feel more satisfactory. I capture a monster when I just what their weapons or armour but when the monster beings to piss me off like pink rathian tail swipes or a plesioth hip checking me (brings back bad memories from MHG) I change my mission to hunting them into extinction.

Well facing a rathian as the first boss in a beginner's guide seems a little bit too hard, they may want to face ludroth, great jaggys and qurupecos first. Fighting a rathian with the equip in the video is not something a newbie could do

+gilgameshvolante does anyone know specifically how you can break off parts of a monster? Because I spend a lot of time trying to break it off but it never seems to do anything
@gilgameshvolante
@gilgameshvolante 9 жыл бұрын
Ka-ka Carrot Cake Well first every monster has certain breakable parts or stuff you can cut. You can cut a rathian's tail but not a Qurupeco one or a Great Jaggi one, for example. Second, every monster suffers either cut or impact damage more on certain part of his body (a barroth suffers more a hammer on his head than a sword) so his parts will break more easily. But other than that just hit the right spots, bombs help too if you trap a monster.

For an addition of this, you can only have 1 shock and one pitfall trap at a time, but you can extend it slightly by crafting them as you go. This goes the same for tranquilizer bombs. If you are an extremely poor aim with thrown things (like throwing knives) you can always bring extra materials with you to craft on the go. One last note, if you go out to capture a monster, I suggest using pitfall traps to damage it and shock traps to capture it. With shock traps, the majority of the monster is easily seen, making it easier to hit the target with a tranq than with a pitfall. I suppose it might depend on the player for that, and sometimes the monster, but that has just been the way it was with my experience.

Further tips: In MH4U you can now throw down the tranq bombs to your feet. After trapping the monster, if you run and use the item it is thrown in the traditional way. But if you simply run up to the monster, stop next to it, then press the button to use the item you would then throw the tranq straight down to your feet.

Exactly. The best way to learn monster hunter is to clear offline first. It improves your skills easly and makes you learn what the bosses do. I hate when people rush online and cause in this game its so easy to boost people to end game you will find plenty of people online in end game quests failing and using wrong weapon elements cause they dont know what to do.

Whoa, whoa, whoa.. Icompletely disagree. Finish those village quests there. The offline mode usually has a good story and will help you prepare to hunt with people. If I had a zenny for every person I've had to kick or put up with that didn't bother with offline mode, I would never have to sell another one of my 300 Gravios cortex. Honestly folks, and especially in MH4U, you even end up missing important game mechanics *coughcoughIfiSeeOneMoreGRankHunterWIthoutWystonesIllThrowMyselfAtAKhezucough* sorry. I feel it also should've been mentioned that large monsters tend to have a pattern that they escape in based on what area of the map they're in and/or how much damage they've sustained. While it may be useful to paintball a large monster your first few times battling it, pay attention to the places it runs to, in which patterns, depending on how heavily injured it is, this way you can keep an extra open slot in your inventory for collecting resources or carrying traps, bombs, tranqs, and so on. Having an extra inventory slot can be useful on longer hunts or against more complex/difficult monsters.

The torch item is an alright support item for Sword and Shield users, It causes smaller monsters to either back away or draw to it's flame depending on the monster. For example the ever present and annoying Jaggi flee from the mystical fire stick, while the the evasive wasp-like Baharaba are slowly drawn to it like a moth to the flame. The reason for the Torch being a good item for SnS Blademasters is the ability to use items while the sword is drawn. The Torch is thus not entirely useless.

Love the series, pointed a few of my hunter friends who are new to the series to it. It would be cool if you could make a weapon tips series. I noticed for instance that when you were using the great sword that you did not let go of the attack button right as the third flash came up, giving it a huge damage boost. A small series about little tips about weapons like the lances counter would be a nice thing to see. PS thank you for helping spreading the monster hunter love.

ok im not sure if i missed something but when the monster starts limping it will head to a area to sleep if you find it sleeping after it was limping you can still trap it by placing a trap next to it while sleeping and then hit it with the tranquilizers and you capture it (both for MH4U and 3U not sure if you can use dugged meat to do this)i can only capture it like this i did it while it was limping once but that was the gendrome quest in MH4U

The killing versus capturing rewards part is a bit misleading. The top part is completely random on how many rewards you get. The bottom area will have your wound rewards, capture rewards, bonus items from the Capture Expert skill, and I think any of the additional drops you get through Lucky Cat but I'm not sure. (unconfirmed info I was told) Showing the images of the rewards bin to new players in such a way will lead them to believe they should always capture when that isn't case.

The first video made me start up MonHunTri again and I'm already close to getting a full Lagi armor set. MH is just a great series.

Very helpful, thanks! I kind of regret getting the hunter's armor now because of how slow it is, but the complete Jaggi armor isn't available yet.

It's generally only used in the cave area of the maps which you usually only go into for mining. So unless you're farming for material it's not something you want to waste an inventory slot on. The only time it's helpful with the hunt is when facing certain monsters in the tundra, i.e. Gigginox, or Barioth. This is because of the dark caves you fight them in throughout the hunt.

what i've noticed is that you can tell if you're hitting a weakspot by big flashes (noticeably bigger than the normal ones anyway) of blood/elemental effects coming from where you're hitting the monster. a good example early on is hitting the arzuros bear guy in his butt this game never outright tells you some of this stuff, but if you're perceptive of the monster and it's reaction to attacks, attack patterns etc. you can learn everythin you need to know

If its the same as tri's system, it wasn't a kill reward, but a quest reward. Meaning capture or kill (unless specified as capture) would give you an equal chance. Though I don't have 3U yet, so maybe they changed it. You'd probably whether they've changed it or not though.

You're talking about the Guide right? Even though I don't need it now since I'm already a Veteran, it's good to get more new players into the Monster Hunter Franchise.

I may not be Jared, but I have a little over 1k hours into the Monster hunter franchise. Honestly at this point in the game you don't need to worry about armor skills because they're really not a lot to help a hammer user quite yet. Go for the Jaggi armor and work your way into the Rathian armor. Don't forget to upgrade the Jaggi armor fully before trying to face a Rathian either! Good luck hunting brother!

The weak spots can also change based on whether you are using a cutting weapon or an impact one.

Jared's certainly sold me on the game. I'm debating waiting until I have a Wii U and getting that version or just springing for the 3DS version now.

Hey, beating any large monster is just the start, once you beat royal ludroth underwater you'll have an easier time once you get to lagiacrus because it has a similar move set.

A bit of advice when it comes to combining items: Always combine items in your chest. You have a much better chance for success in you chest than out on the field, especially after you've bought one or two books of combos.

Here's extra capturig tips: Monster breaks out of trap too fast? Tranquilize it first then trap it. Or you thought the monster was weak enough to capture but wasnt? If you tranqualized it you can still hit it to hopefully weaken it enough to capture it automatically, granted that it is still trapped

im surprised jared didnt mention this in the guide and i found this out by accident. make a full set of chain mail armor and that would boost up your success rate for combining items by 25%. very useful :] (thanks jared, because of you i picked up this game since my wiiU has been collecting dust. now all i do is work, gym, and monster hunter...)

Not quite, just because Dual Swords hit more doesn't mean it's doing more then the SnS cuz of the damage formula. You also have more agility with SnS, quicker combos, a shield for emergencies and the ability to knock out your own monster atleast once or twice, also helps aiding hammer/hunting horn users. Never look down on any weapon.

I just got this game the other day and It's pretty overwhelming. Your first guide helped a lot. The armor confuses me a bit though. I just don't know what would be best, so I haven't upgraded or bought any new pieces at all yet.
