For those wondering what Jared got wrong about 3E today: Shields don't all give the same armor class. Bucklers and small shields give +1, large shields give +2, and tower shields give +4 (and come with an attack penalty). Don't blame Jared for mixing it up, when you've been playing D&D since the early nineties, shit gets all jumbled. Gods know I've mixed up editions before. For example, I always forget that Stone Skin sucks after 2nd edition.

I didn’t research this game (yet) but I found out that the code of Warriors of the Eternal Sun inflicted a -2 to hit on everything the player does. (Explains a lot, doesn’t it?) The reason was apparently to hamstring the player to extend play time. I suspect something similar is going on here… in other words, this ongoing disaster is probably by design…

@@alfasilverbladeI understand what you mean, especially since we have confessions from developers of games from the era (Ecco the Dolphin) but in this case I think “scam” is probably too strong a word… keep in mind how little storage space these cartridges actually have (even GBA carts). They can only put in so much actual content; in order to make it so a game has enough play time to feel worth the purchase price they have to do SOMETHING to slow you down. You wouldn’t want to blast through the game too fast. I’m reminded of the encounter rates in the Mega Man Battle Network games. The trick is making it reasonably balanced, which has got to be really hard since everyone’s got their own idea of what is fair. It strikes me as a losing battle at best… a developer just has to do the best they can and hope for the best.

Honestly the fault lies more on poor execution than hardware limitations. You could have made the same game much better by improving the ui, feedback and controls. The graphics could be much better as well although that's easier to forgive. Also on a system capable of delivering near SNES level sound effects and music, this effort is sub par at best.

So given you're now fighting Zombies and Turn Undead is being useful I did a quick check on the rules as of the 3.5 version of D&D, which I hope is accurate to this game since I don't know how different Turn Undead is between 3.0 and 3.5. A Cleric can use Turn Undead a number of times equal to 3 plus his Charisma modifier. In addition, if a Cleric has 5 or more ranks in the Knowledge (Religion) skill that cleric gets a +2 bonus on Turn Undead checks

@Azurus13 күн бұрын
For starters, he's not using weapons that work with his stats, his best character combat wise is the crossbow user. It's +1 to hit for every 2 str above 10, same for ranged attacks with dex. Too early in the game to have dexterity modify melee attack rolls. Thing is, enemies have good stats and base ac and he has no base attack bonuses. +0 to hit on something with 14-16ac is going to leave a 65-75 miss chance. His best character has a +5 to hit and even that accuracy isn't great at 40-50 miss chance
