Hey Jared, just a quick tip. Whenever you do a finisher move, those blue shards show up and let you do a big attack on all your enemies. I’ve had it go where I can just chain these massive attacks one after another till every enemy is dead. It’s awesome.

Y'know, the kind of guy who's played the game before, and is trying to tell you where to go, and what to do, even though your just having fun exploring, and gets frustrated when you don't listen to him. after a circle move, hold square for a few seconds. makes your life a lot easier. you collect crystals and BOOM. Congrats for finding an ending I haven't found yet. Bought the game yesterday, enjoying it so far.

Huh. This game has some... interesting mythology references. Thor and Judas are obvious, but Puck is from Midsummer Night’s Dream, and the Yellow King is Hastur. What’s really weird are how disjointed they are - none of them make much thematic sense, and they’re completely disconnected from each other.

That sounds like a personal problem. A DM needs to be able to accommodate the choices of the players. The DM may be the world creator, but it's the players who ultimately decide the story's direction.

I actually really really like the writing for this game and think the narrator's dialogue is really good, but I find the person voicing the narrator is really wooden and it doesn't sound natural. Also I feel he lacks a certain charisma.

I am currently mixed on the Stanley parable aspect of this game. I see more potential in the actual story that seems to be getting hinted at (all those dead Iceys and some kind of ritual being performed) rather then this meta stuff. Plus I find the fact that the narrator speaks on basically every screen (even ones you already have been to) very irritating.

The voice actor they got to read the lines is just no good; either mute or the original Mandarin/Cantonese would be better. Everything else looks really fun, fluid combat, and the sketchy as hell narration, all works for me. Glad you're having fun with this Jared :)

Is it possible that the voice actor is obnoxious on purpose? I personally like the narrator because he comes off as annoying, arrogant, and really just a loser. It deepens the character with out more exposition through the scrip. It also adds a level to the players relationship with him. If the narrator is unlikable you are more inclined to rebel, and do things to bother him. This results in you naturally finding the secrets of this game. However, this is just my two cents.

I get the idea that the narrator x player relationship is aimed to be similar to games like Stanley Parable, but it kind of doesn't work in this game because the narrator in this game is the developer at the same time, so why is he whining when you're not following the arrows? He designed the game so that the player has choice to follow them or not. If he wanted the player to follow the arrows, why did he design ways to do the exact opposite? Shouldn't he be happy that you're doing what he intended; doing what you want? It just doesn't make sense.

Putting rats in a maze, and telling them how to find the cheese, but secretly enjoying the foolish rat as he makes the wrong turn, mocking him, and playing with his sense of self and the illusion of choice. After all, it's all just a game, to him too.

This setup IS basically the same as Stanley Parable, though. There the narrator was trying to be more of the "writer" of the game, but still shifted to actual game dev concepts if you went on certain paths, with placeholder textures and all. The idea is the narrator isn't the literal voice of the game developer or writer or anything like that, they're a character claiming to be one while themselves being in a bigger game. These are very postmodern, "meta" types of games, intended to make you think about the building blocks of games, and discuss the concepts these characters proclaim via gameplay. While the "fake developer", the character, tries to push you along a single story he thought up, the game itself, made by the real developer, is a metroidvania, giving you freedom to explore or "break" the game, hiding easter eggs - either as typical secrets or behind refusing the narrator's commands in a specific way - and rewarding you for completing challenges - which can be either combat or just sitting through an asshole lecturing you and asking for high ratings while eating a sandwich.

To me, there are two chances: 1. The developer of the game (as in, the developer whithin the game, not the actual one) is not very good, and is unable to actually make branching pathways or anything other than a lineal game, thus he really strugles to remake the game whenever the player puts him off balance. 2. This is not a meta game, and ICEY is currently being created and/or programmed as the "Chosen One". That'd explain why the constant theme the narrator wants to drill into ICEY is that you must follow his every direction is you want to achieve your goal, or why at the beggining of the game the narrator insists ICEY has no past, and that didn't matter to her. remember that, as per Jared's first ending in the prior video, Judas and his followers exist on a virtual city, so even for ingame-ingame lore (we must go deeper) ICEY exists in the digital world.

the thing is he is not developing a game, he is developing the AI, that's why Judas rebelled against him and that's why the narrator developed an ICEY to destroy any AI that would oppose humans and every time she doesn't follow his order he is not happy - at least that is what I have gathered so far.
