I stumbled across your channel because i'm the dad with the spanners doing stuff for the Corsa that we bought for our son to learn to drive in. You deserve compliments because as others have pointed out, it's enough of a job doing the work in the first place let alone taking the extra time to video it, being mindful of setting up the camera for angles and lighting and focus each time but c'mon, complaining about the cold?! When I were a lad (yeah here we go...), I had to take the engine out of my car and my father hated me doing it at home so I did it outside at a farm and one time, it was thick on the ground in snow and still snowing. You youngsters don't know you're born ;) One minor comment, when you smacked the ends of the driveshafts, I didn't notice that being a soft hammer, to avoid damaging the threads, leave the nut on and smack that instead. Keep using the hand tools too, someone else commented on that but you have a better sympathy for what's stuck and needs care - that's my opinion anyway. Disappointing that you didn't have one totally bastard nut that held you up for a couple of days though, these modern cars eh? Too easy! I was hoping for at least one of the exhaust nuts to provide some entertainment but alas no. I'll keep watching, you're doing a great job. What's the camera being used?

Just gotta say your videos have given me a lot of confidence to do this sort of stuff. I've been a self taught guy when it comes to mechanical work and I'm slowly but surely tackling bigger and more complex jobs. I never even contemplated being able to do my own engine swaps but I know now that it's not as gruelling as it seems. Maybe one day I'll invest in an engine crane and get a project of my own going lol. Keep it up!

I gotta say that is some tidy removal work for someone without a fully fledged garage! If you're ever going to upgrade your cordless wrench/air wrench I'd recommend going down the Makita route for their 1/2" cordless wrenches. They can be bought body only at either £150 DTW285Z (brushless version 280nm torque) or £80 DTW190Z (190nm toque, non-brushless). If you do any DIY work at home then a combi-drill set will come with the batteries... Got all the Makita home range and they haven't missed a beat. Cheers.

The Savage Garage You are correct there is nothing like a good tense of the muscles are wrenching a bolt/nut loose. I used to work in a tyre shop with a crap air gun and about a 50meter lead so was undoing wheels manually quite often! Looking forward to the footage going up of the new 1.8 animal, video quality is top notch with whatever camera you are using in such a risky/potentially dirty environment! Cheers

Another great video James mate. Working on a car that is likely to be in our life. Can I ask when you pulled out axles did any gearbox oil come out?
@TheSavageGarage
@TheSavageGarage 6 жыл бұрын
Arts&Trusts yea a dribble, they are only filled to the hole the axle goes in, if you care about your driveway drain the oil by removing the plate with the 10mm nuts on the bottom of the gear box :)

Arts&Trusts you should be fine mate, I lost a tiny bit which shouldn't make a difference, however if you really wanted to you could add a little in through the reverse switch on the gearbox when you have changed the driveshaft

You shouldn't be leaving your brake calliper hanging on the break hose like that tip is to use a metal coat hanger so you can hang it and take tension off the hose

Why bother with a 1.8 ?. Just go with a Saab B234R. Full on 500bhp, and will run that day in, day out for over 200,000 miles. So many Saab engined Corsa's now at the Ace Cafe meets.

Thank's for the answer mate. I knew that you are doing it right. I was just shocked why you are draining it. I guess that if the oil is in the sump or not the engine itself is oil-less anyway so better play it safe for transportation. Thank you for the answer. As I had said I am no mechanic. I just watch your channel because somehow I like it.
