Our 2015 Forester had the valve body replaced by the campaign. I knew what was wrong from my own diagnosis before took it to the dealership. We were just 600 miles short of the 100,000 mile limit. I am a DIY and changed my CVT fluid with OE fluid every 30,000 miles. Dealership confirmed this, replaced it and called my wife for pickup. I get a call from her that the car doesn’t drive correctly with the same transmission symptoms. Told her to go right back. Service manager called later to say the tech thinks it’s dirty throttle body. I’m like WHAT? A day later was told the car was ready for pickup. Not two blocks away from the dealership, same problems. At this time, I told my wife they need to keep the car and find out what’s wrong or put in a new transmission. A few days later, the car was ready. This time I showed up with my wife for the pickup. I said I won’t leave unless I get an explanation. Apparently, the tech who did the job was technically a trainee. The master tech was not there when the valve body was replaced. When the master tech finally got involved, he thought they had to condemn the transmission. But knowing this part was replaced, he checked the work. The trainee tech had crushed one of the O rings. I told the service manager that everything about this was unacceptable. Twice we were given back the car without the car being test driven after the work. I know they didn’t test drive it because the car couldn’t get two blocks without problems. A few weeks later when I get into the engine bay to do my routine maintenance checks, I found a missing retention clip on the air intake. And I found a pair of discarded gloves in the engine bay. I wish I had just been given the new parts under warranty and I could’ve done a better job. WITH PRIDE. Btw, CVT drain and fill, front and rear diff drain and fill, both rear hub replacements, PCV valve and hose replacement, serpentine belt/tensioner/pulley replacement, top engine service, brake jobs were all done by me. Thanks to @MrSubaru1387 and his videos.

Had similar lack of pride from the dealer on two TSB's for my Ascent. I wouldn't trust the dealer techs to sit the right way on a toilet seat.

Typically the service manager at any stealership will not take responsibility for any of their screw-ups which shows to me a total lack of integrity.

Great video, will probably have to do mine in the future and your videos have taken away the apprehension of doing it. One question, have you ever looked into buying the valves from the company that Subaru uses? I once saw a video where someone did that. It was a long time ago and I can't remember who did it, but he pulled the old valves out found the manufacturer and ordered the valves. I think it was a distributor, not direct, but not really sure. Have you ever looked into this?

I've changed CVT fluid on two of ours 2015 Outback 2.5i, and on both of them had this color CVT fluid rather than the greenish-bluish one. Apparently it came from factory with that fluid

My wife and I are only beginning to look for a new SUV. Possibly a Toyota, Honda, or Subaru. We have never owned a Subaru. The other day I visited our (nearly new) Subaru dealership. I went to the service area and had to wait even though I was the only customer there. Training was occurring for two individuals. I asked whether the fuel injection system on the 2025 Forester was direct injection, or direct injection and port injection. In addition, I asked what the service interval was for fuel injection cleaning. The two trainees had no idea what I was talking about. The service writer trainer didn't know either. A female mechanic appeared and she didn't know the answer either. They suggested I ask the sales department for the answer. Really! Are you kidding me? The service department suggested I ask the sales department to solve a fuel delivery question for a 2025 Forester! How incredibly lazy! Finally an older mechanic appeared and said the injection service interval was approximately 60K. (Still didn't get an answer to my direct injection or direct with port injection question.) I can't believe the service department writers suggested I get my answer from the sales department! Lazy! And no one offered to research the answer for me! Really disappointed with Subaru.

Hi!, my EJ25 wrx 08. I changed the passenger side valve cover gasket about 9 times and it still leaks, the cover is new with new screws. No cracks, everything normal, if I don't accelerate it doesn't leak anything. The problem is when I accelerate it starts to leak barely always from the weakest point which would be at the angle where the RTV is placed. The PCV valve is ok, and tubes ok. I wonder if the problem is that a lot of gases are generated in the valve cover but that would be very rare...

One complaint with the website. Or at least the CSR, is that they only know what is VIN matched. I have a 06 FXT and when looking for non factory option, BUT OEM option rims that were already on the car the CSRs told me it wasnt available for my VIN. I explaied i have three others on the car with pictures and dimentions and number from enkei to help confirm item X on the website is the correct 4th rim... needless to say i ignored the CSR and ordered the correct rim from the BRZ and it fits perfectly and matches the other 3. I believe some of these CSRs should be trained on the chassis parity for some parts. How impreza wrx parts fit on foresters outbacks etc

I've seen several videos where you can replace the solenoid. I know they say it not serviceable, however it seems they can be replaced.
@inerlogic4 ай бұрын
The issue is subaru doesn't sell just the solenoid... you have to buy the complete assembly
@MrSubaru13874 ай бұрын
The only solenoids available are cheap aftermarket junk with high failure rates. No thanks.
@turtle17234 ай бұрын
@MrSubaru1387 I spoke with my local mechanic, they primarily service Subarus here in Upstate NY. They take them out of scrapped cars after testing. Or from valve body's where they owner choose to use a full replacement. I believe 3 of 4 solenoids are identical so they can be interchanged. The lockup, primary up and down all the same.
@MrSubaru13874 ай бұрын
@@turtle1723 why would you install a used solenoid on the verge of failure? 🤦🏻♂️
@turtle17234 ай бұрын
@MrSubaru1387 Two reasons I can think of. Firstly, many people can't afford the 800 part and this gets them down the road at a price they can better afford. Secondly, it seems that the lockup fails and the other 2 aren't failing. So it seem tha something is causing that specific position to fail and not the others and they arent faulty. This is basically the town shop that everyone brings their Subarus to and we got a ton of them here on the NY VT border. Can you verify those 3 part numbers are identical in the one you removed?

Oil filter is up top, just gotta remove a few easy things to get to spark plugs, glove compartment literally pops in and out for cabin air filter, clearance is enough for me to slide under and work relatively comfortable with some space to spare (im pretty tiny though).
