We are renovating our 1988 Palm Harbor single wide mobile home paycheck to paycheck debt free and as we are able. We hope you will join us in this DIY adventure!
We’re a small family who moved out of the city in 2015 and set off on a new journey to build a homestead from bare land on one acre out in the country of the Blue Ridge mountains of North Carolina. Not only am I impressed with Elijah but you guys as well for embracing his interest in construction. Many parents just don't have the patience to let their kids try things. Congrats to all of you! I fully understand not wanting to be in debt, another EXTREMELY VALUABLE LESSON you're teaching your boys!

I paid off all my debt when I was 50 years old. I could've retired then but worked seven more years just to keep busy. People ask me all the time how I was able to retire early. I always tell them "no debt".

Sam & Angela being debt free is a wonderful feeling, In 2008 I was in debt for almost $300, 000.00 and it was compounded by being laid off and being unemployed for almost a year. But I was able to sell my house and pay off all my debts and use the left over to buy a Fannie Mae repo for pennies on the dollar and spent the next 8 years remodeling it and fixing it up. I now have the personal philosophy of if I don't have the cash I don't need it. I can truly sympathize with your feelings about debt the only thing I owe is taxes. One suggestion you mentioned having to replace the bathroom window with it being a oddball size you may want to remove it and wall over it. Another suggestion is on central heat and air, it will cost more in the short term but look at mini splits you can size them for a single room for less than $800.00, and with the small size of your place you can probably do 3 splits and cover every thing.

I totally relate!! We live in the home my husbands father built in 1940. So just imagine all the things that come up that we have to do. BUT we have NO MORTGAGE!! Such a blessing. So we will continue to do whatever up keep that comes along. We have been blessed with a very sturdy home during hurricanes, we live 1 mile from the gulf coast here in Mississippi. We replaced he wood on the walls and put up drywall and the learned the studs are cedar and the floor joist are creosote timbers. I guess back them they used what they had.
