There's two 'okay' ish examples of bonnets on eBay right now but both would need new front rails at least. Personally I'm going with a new heritage one.

Yeah I've been having a look on there too. I'm in no rush to find one.

I think get a new one, unless you can find a newr kint second hand one. Would definitely be a jeat video to watch you fix thisnand then you have the skills and a spare bonnet !

I think that getting a new one is the best thing too. I could fix this one up but it won't fit the cooper as the bonnet latch is in a different position 🤦

100% IF you can afford it go for Heritage...worth it in the long run 😉👍

My bonnet was very similar in rust. Unfortunately my skills don't come under panel fabrication, so I went for a new bonnet. Couldn't find a decent second hand one. It would be interesting to watch you have a go though.

Thanks. I think it is repairable but the best option will be a new one. The thing that worries me the most is trying to position the bonnet catch in the right place

@@BlakesDen I'd be thinking the same.

If you have the time then why not give it a go. There’s not much cost for materials. Otherwise just get a heritage replacement. Keep it up 👍

Thanks 🙂. I think that I'd rather spend the time doing one of the many other jobs required.

Hi I.m.o this bonnet isn't worth the time/effort to fix... finding a Good (non-rusty front) will be a challenge I see New genuine ones are upwards of £240😳... however, Don't get a non-genuine...did that some many years ago And they Don't fit correctly 🙄 Good luck with whatever you decide, definitely worth saving a 1989 Designer! You are to be commended on that 👍

Yeah I think that I have reached the same conclusion! I've used heritage panels for the bits which are on show and I've been very happy with them

If you're considering buying a second hand bonnet you have nothing to lose trying to repair this one, except a little steel, gas and wire. Watch some youtube videos for panel repair techniques and give it a go. It may turn out o.k. and you will have saved some cash, and at worst you will have had some practice. Best wishes.

I did consider that, the only real cost is my time 🙂
